Hi & welcome to our August Issue Are you back into the swing of the school routine? I’ve found it to be quite tough this time around. The holidays didn’t go as planned although the 2 weeks went by so quickly! We also have my sister visiting from NSW but their 2 weeks started a week after us so although our holidays went quick I don’t feel organised to be back and wish we still had another week to play! I get torn between being the tough Mum and soft Mum as to whether I send my kids to school while they have their only cousins over visiting. We took them to the park we reviewed in Plenty this month. Its not a huge playground but they had a lot of fun playing and as always didn’t want to leave. My niece loves the monkey bars and zipped back and forth with ease while Ollie looked on in awe. I know it won’t be long before this is another milestone he will pass. Looking for bugs With all the distraction of holidays this issue feels like it has come around super fast. But I always love the selection of articles that we have for you. We share the story of a young girl Libby from Diamond Creek who is doing amazing things for our wildlife. At just 13 she has already raised over $10,000 to help Koalas!! Another article is about Living with Childhood Cancer - something we don’t want to think about but a reality for many. We also have some clear advice from a Dr about Coughs and Colds as we come to the end of the season. Featured on our centre pages is all you need to know about the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival - did you know this is their 15th year!!

Out and About
PLENTY WAR MEMORIAL PARK 1 Memorial Drive PLENTY Located just off Yan Yean Road is this great little park for your next outdoor adventure. The structure is positioned amongst the trees allowing for natural shade and the feeling you’re out in the middle of a nature reserve. The playground is well suited to younger children with lower height equipment and slides that are not being too steep - great for guiding little ones down. However there are still obstacles that older kids will enjoy as well. Two main structures, each with a slide at the end are joined by a set of monkey bars. Some other fun additions include a shop window, steering

wheel, plastic rock climbing wall, firemen pole, tic-tac-toe wall, suspended chain bridge and a balance beam. There is also a set of swings with a toddler seat, super cute car rocker and a stand up spinner. The area is also fenced which provides piece of mind if you have little wanderers or more than one child to watch. There are public toilets (always a bonus) plus bench seats, table and a BBQ if you want to make a longer day of it. Plus the advantage of being situated next to an oval is always great to help expel some extra energy! Something our kids seem to have endless amounts of!!

Zucchini Chocolate Brownies Ingredients: · · · · · · · · · · · ·
2 cups zucchini, grated 1/2 cup melted and cooled coconut oil 1/2 cup pure maple syrup 2 large eggs, at room temperature 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 3/4 cup wholemeal flour 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 1 1/3 cups dark chocolate chips
Directions:
towel to remove some excess moisture. Do not dry the zucchini out completely. 3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the coconut oil, eggs, maple syrup, and vanilla. Add zucchini. 4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir to combine. 5. Add dry mixture to the wet/zucchini mixture. Stir to combine. Add chocolate chips. 6. Pour batter into prepared pan.
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (160 in a fan forced oven) Grease an 8 x 8 inch baking pan and line with baking paper so that you have a little hanging over the sides. Set aside.
7. Bake 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean but with a few crumbs still clinging too it. Let cool completely before removing from pan.
