Hi & welcome to our November Issue This is my most favourite time of year! The warmer weather, lots of butterflies and its my birthday month too. We usually take a break in November and head away with the boys to sunny QLD but we changed our minds at the last minute and hired a campervan. We drove around Lorne, Phillip Island and Wilsons Prom in the second week of school holidays. It was loads of fun along with a few meltdowns but not enough to scare us off from doing it again one day! It’s been a very busy year for us so having the month home before we head into the craziness of Christmas I think will do us all well!

Out and About
ROSANNA PARKLANDS Thomson Drive ROSANNA This months playground is local to us and is one that we often visit. It's a treasure trove of adventure where you can collect natures goodies like sticks, pine cones and leaves, play on the play equipment or make your own fun like build or play in one of the many huts that have been built by other visiting kids throughout the parklands. The play equipment at the Thomson Drive park caters for all ages from toddlers with the low steps, shop window and shorter lower slide to older kids with monkey bars and climbing frames. There is also a spider web to climb, a tic tac toe wall, clock and a chain climbing ladder, Plus a set of swings and an animal rocker. The playground isn’t shaded however

with an abundance of trees around natural shading occurs throughout the space. A drinking tap is close by to hydrate after all the adventuring and bench seats and tables if you bring a picnic or snacks for your visit. The 25 hectares of parklands with walking tracks and a creek also caters for the hairy 4 legged family members and has off leash areas too. Our Golden Retriever Louie is in dog heaven every time we go! So drop by for a short play or pack some supplies and stay for a while - either way you will love it!

Giving Back To The Community Are you aware that local Community BankÂŽ branches give up to 80% of their profits back to sporting clubs, schools, kindergartens, scouts, theatre groups, toy libraries and infrastructure projects? The model was created 20 years ago by the Bendigo Bank to allow locals to choose a fullservice bank that reinvests back into their communities. We are lucky to have seven of these branches in our patch here in Banyule/Nillumbik, who have collectively distributed over $6 million in grants and sponsorships back to the local community.
Local kindergartens and playgroups across Banyule have received almost $100,000 in contributions for various projects including playground upgrades, installation of soft-fall, furniture for new kinder rooms, pathways, water tanks and community gardens. Recently the Macleod Preschool received a grant for $5,000 to commission a local Aboriginal art collective to work with the students, design and paint a mural which recognised the history of the local area and create a warm and inviting entrance to the centre along with seating areas to reflect on the mural.
Here's a snapshot of some of these contributions: The Banyule Toy Library has received over $18,000 to purchase new sustainable toys for their library, which is a community based, not for profit o rga n i s at i o n t h at aims to promote the importance and value of play in every child's development by providing affordable access to a range of quality toys and resources for families that live and work in Banyule. Big Group Hug is a local not-for-profit that distributes pre-loved essential items to young families who are going through tough times – including clothing, prams, car seats, cots and toys,and they have received over $18,000 for warehouse shelving, and items including nappies, formula and cot mattresses.
The Community Bank supports lots of initiatives to keep young people fit and active, including the Walking Bus Program. Our mascot Piggy was very keen to join the kids from Hurstbridge Primary School on their walk to school.
