Hi & welcome to our February Issue!! Happy New Year to you and your family! Did you have a good break? Who am I kidding - its not a break for us LOL. Did your kids have a good break?!! We visited my sister for a few days in Sydney and had play dates and trips to the movies or the pool but mostly spent the time home. But I still seemed to spend so much money!! Now it’s full steam ahead into the first Term of school. This is the first and only year all 3 boys will be at school together. I’m a little worried about Ollie - our youngest starting school. He didn’t love any of the school transition days and he has always hated the drop off at daycare and also kinder. I hope having the bigger boys there with him will help him feel comfortable Do you have a little person starting school this year? Or maybe Kinder or even Daycare? We have some articles I think you’ll find helpful - I certainly did! I can relate totally to “Cheers or Tears” as I wave Ollie off to join his brothers at school this year - leaving me wondering where the time has gone? “4 Steps to Reduce Starting School Anxiety” offers some great tips to help us parents with the transition while “Rule, Routines & Rituals” is a handy reminder of the importance of consistent routines to maintain household harmony after the summer break! This month also marks the anniversary of Black Saturday - 10 years this year. The devastation & destruction that ripped through the area was more than heartbreaking and I feel for everyone affected. On page 27 Neighbourhood House in Kinglake have complied a list of the 10 Year Anniversary Commemoration Events planned. If you know of anyone that has moved from the area and might be interested please pass on the details to them. I hope you enjoy this issue. ELTHAM NORTH ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND Wattletree Road ELTHAM NORTH Like all the families who rate this park amongst their favourites, we were so shocked and saddened when we heard the news of the fire in December 2017. We kept updated with the progress of the rebuild and love the revamped park! (As did our dog Louie - they have a fenced off oval perfect for dogs right in front) When we arrived there was a happy buzz as visitors scampered through the main structure up stairs and down slides, across bridges and along beams. There are climbing rope ladders, tunnels and lookouts. The old tractor wasn’t forgotten with a new shiny replacement located inside. The addition of little shops for endless imaginary play is a welcomed upgrade.

There are swings and a flying fox and the children all seem to know the rules and wait patiently for their turns. A dry creek snakes through the area and a large sand pit shaded by the roof of the structure is another favourite for many busy little people. The area is still spacious and again has picnic areas, covered tables and chairs, BBQ’s and a new toilet facility. We got there early and within a short time the car park, which is ample, was almost full. An added bonus has alway been the direct access to Edendale Farm for a full day of adventure plus can also be used for parking. If you haven’t been yet - I have to ask “What are you waiting for?”

In The Kitchen Great substitute for sandwiches in school lunches
Naturally Sweentened Muffins Ingredients -
250g cream cheese 2 eggs 1 cup (250mls) milk 1 + 2/3 cups (250g) self-raising flour

1 tsp cinnamon 1 cup carrot, grated 2 apples, grated 2/3 cup sultanas
Method 1) Preheat oven to 180°C or 160°C fan-forced 2) Microwave cream cheese for one minute to soften slightly.
Makes 12 - 24 muffins depending on the tin size
3) In a large bowl, whisk cream cheese with eggs and milk until smooth. 4) Whisk in flour and cinnamon. 5) Stir through carrot, apples and sultanas. 6) Grease a 12-hole muffin tin. Distribute batter evenly. 7) Bake for 30-35 minutes until cooked through. ** Just a note - the texture a different to usual muffins given the cream cheese.
