Hi & welcome to our July Issue!! And just like that we are into another school holiday break! I don’t know about you but I’m feeling a little like ‘am I Arthur or am I Martha’? Between holidays, home schooling and holidays again and keeping up with restrictions easing and tightening - I’d be happy just to crawl into to bed and watch Netflix for the next few months!! My boys are very happy to be on holidays though - as I think all kids are. We’ve booked to go away for a few days to NSW, fingers crossed. I keep checking for updates or emails from the accommodation to make sure they will let us in - because this Mamma needs a little break! Inside this months issue we have a some fun pages with activities to do over the break. You could try the Chocolate Crackle Plum Puddings - a little Christmas in July special. It’s an easy one for the kids to help make and decorate. You won’t have to ask them twice to help eat them!! In Kids Corner we have a great Winter Crossword to try plus Lava Lamps to make. It's a great activity if you are spending some time at home and you’ll probably have most of the ingredients in your cupboard. If you’re looking for somewhere to venture you could head up to Kinglake. We feature Bollywood Playground in this months Out and About on page 10, it’s a fantastic playground to visit and I promise you won’t be disappointed. I think we have all become accustom to our new way of living during the pandemic. Words like social distancing and self isolation have become our new normal. Even though our numbers have risen slightly over the last few weeks we have mostly all been continuing to play our part to help stop the spread. To keep up with the easing of restrictions and to avoid any further lock-downs it's the way we must keep it. If you haven’t already download the government app: www.health.gov.au/resources/apps-and-tools/coronavirus-australia-app Some of our local businesses are beginning to reopen while others that remain closed are finding ways to adapt to these changed circumstances. Booking sessions, online classes, limiting numbers through their doors or interacting with the customers in different ways. Check in with your local area to see what is available. BOLLYGUM PLAYGROUND 40 Whittlesea-Kinglake Road KINGLAKE

With the school holidays upon us I decided to take a drive up the mountain to Kinglake to check out a playground that has long been on our list of places to visit. I honestly could not have been more delighted that I did! I would definitely rate Bollygum Park as one of the best I have ever been to. Built after the devastation of the fires the play space has been based on the theme of the book “Bollygum” by Australia author Garry Fleming. The area is not only inviting and fun it’s also well set out and spacious with lots to keep the kids busy. There are so many options to play on including swings, slides, ladders and stairs plus monkey bars and sliding bar. Areas to hide in, climb

through, dig with you hands or with the digger and make some musical sounds. There are also places for some imaginary play like at the dry creek with the fishing rods or inside Platypus’ House with the built in fireplace. To top it off it even have a skate park! With tables and seating plus lush grass and a covered BBQ area the trip to the park is well worth the stay for a picnic, treat or rest after all the adventuring and playing. The Bollygum Community Market runs on the second Sunday of the month 10am - 2pm (although not over winter) with an array of goods sold. It’s certainly the perfect spot for a family fun day!

MOTHERS HELPING MOTHERS WITH POSTNATAL DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY Have you previously experienced postnatal depression or anxiety? Are you interested in providing support to new mothers at risk of postnatal depression or anxiety? Approximately 1 in 5 of new mothers suffer from postnatal depression and/or anxiety and many do not receive the support they require. To help these new mothers, researchers from the La Trobe University are conducting a study called “DAISY – Depression & AnxIety peer Support studY”. This study consists of experienced mothers who have previously experienced postnatal depression or anxiety offering mother-to-mother telephone support to new mothers who are at high-risk to develop postnatal depression or anxiety. We are seeking peer support volunteers who have previously experienced (and recovered from) postnatal depression or anxiety. To become a “peer support volunteer” you will need to attend a 4-hour on-line video training session to learn how to provide telephone support. In The Kitchen Christmas In July Chocolate Crackle Plum Puddings Ingredients:

Directions:

- 4 cups Rice Bubbles

1. Place patty pans into patty pan tray

- 1 cup Icing Sugar

2. Combined Rice bubbles, Icing sugar, Desiccated Coconut, Cocoa and mix together

- 1 cup Desiccated Coconut - 3 tbs Cocoa - 250g Copha - White Chocolate Melts - Spearmint Leaves - Jaffas * You will also need patty pans and a patty pan tray or muffin tray

3. Melt Copha on the stove, leave to cool a little then add to the dry mixture and mix it together. 4. Scoop mixed mixture into patty pans 5. Place in the refrigerator to set 7. Melt chocolate in the microwave, and dribble onto chocolate crackles then add jaffas and spearmint leaves, to look like Holly. Enjoy!!
