Hello and Welcome to our October 2020 Issue we wish you all have a great month ahead and I hope you enjoy reading our latest issue. I cant help but think of how you are all coping with the coronavirus situation. I am trying to stay positive and keep my mind on what I would like to be doing in the following year ahead when hopefully we can put all of this behind us. How gorgeous has the weather been lately. I am really enjoying seeing all the owers bloom and the season changing before my eyes. At the end of this month we celebrate Halloween. This American tradition has quickly become a major day to enjoy with our kids on the Australian calendar. This October you can get the kids dressed in Halloween costumes and enjoy trick or treat Well that is what im hoping. I do believe this year is all about re connecting with each other , at the start of the year I really thought 2020 was going to be my year in regards to personal goals and achievements however 2020 has taught me to appreciate everything I have right now and reconnect with myself and family at home. One easy way of doing this was to play endless games of cards and board games with my husband and son, I also found plenty of time for cleansing, decluttering and just talking more about mindful subjects. Yes most of us are homeschooling again and im hoping this time around it is easier for you and your children as they may be getting better at it by now. But all of this will hopefully change soon and most children will be back at school by the end of October and we can all get a regular routine going how awesome would that be. At this point Im trying to encourage my son to self learn as well as making it inviting and engaging so there may be some days this will not happen and its great to just regroup and start again. We all have our own way of doing things so try not to be hard and put too much pressure on yourself and your children. These are challenging times for all of us and we have to also consider how it effects our children having to hear and learn about this virus and not doing their every day activates such as school or sport and spending time with friends as this would put a lot of pressure on them as well as us. During this time being outdoors is probably the best thing you can do so going for a walk is great. Especially now that we can gather in small groups that is amazing. Sometimes it is hard to get the kids out but once they are they are out walking and it breaks your day up while you get some great exercise in. Here is a link to our local parks. At this point we can not use the play areas however there are so many great tracks and walkways you can explore while keeping ď€ t mentally and physically. https://www.manningham.vic.gov.au/locations/parks-and-playspaces Most importantly this month its a great time to focus on one thing at a time. I will keep you all posted on social media with what is happening with all the open days with kinders/Childcares , schools and other Local activities. Eyesight Tips for Extended 'Zoom Meetings' by Sonya Wijaya
One of the most important ways to prevent spread of COVID-19 is to stay home (other than essen al work/ shopping and exercising) and maintain social distancing. This however has led to increased screen me (study, work, and social interac on) for us and our children. Many of us are si ng at home doing work from home and supervising our children doing their online schooling as well as supervising their digital social interac ons. The harmful blue and violet light from all these devices can disrupt the children's (and ours) normal circadian rhythm. Prolonged screen me and near work also lead to eyestrain and myopia (short-sightedness) which we have witnessed in the last 3 months.

It is crucial to refrain using digital devices in the last 2 hours before bed me. It is also important to take regular breaks every 20 minutes as well as keeping good working distance from screen. Average good UV exposure per day of 2 hours is recommended to reduce risk of myopia; and with current restric on in Stage 4 in Victoria we are allowed to have 1 hour exercising outside our home within 5 km. The rest of the 1 hour can be obtained by si ng outside while children have lunch or breaks from online study. Simple ps during Stage 4 lockdown for eye health:

Persian Meat Patties (Kotlet) INGREDIENTS 500g minced meat 2 boiled potatoes, mashed 1 onion, grated 1 cup basil, chopped 1 egg Oil for frying SPICES 1/2 tsp turmeric 1/2 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp cumin powder 1/3 tsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp cinnamon Salt to taste

DIRECTION 1. In a large bowl add meat, mashed potatoes, onion, basil, egg and all the spices. 2. Using your hands, mix everything until well combined. The mixture is going to be very sticky. 3. Heat oil in a pan. 4. Place a bowl of water near yourself, wet your hands, take 1 1/2 tbsps of the patty mixture, form into an oval or round shape and fry it in the oil, 2-3 minutes on each side until brown. Enjoy with a salad or on its own
