Monash Dear Readers, Welcome to our April 15’ edition portraying the 2 most important events of this month - enjoyment and celebration during EASTER; & remembering and honouring our ANZACS on Anzac Day. Chocolate, coloured eggs, cute little bunnies and treasure hunts – Easter has always been an exciting time of the year for families. It is also coinciding well with the school holidays. So we have featured quite a few articles and recreational activities this month for you to explore as a family, satisfying the natural playfulness and curiosity of children. During this Anzac Day, we salute and honour our ANZACS. Commemorative services and ceremonies will be held at various places in City of Monash (For details see pg 24). THE VISION OF BEING3 KINDERGARTEN IS TO PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION AND CARE FOR 3 TO 5 YEAR OLD CHILDREN Being3 kindergarten is a new children’s centre located on Burwood Hwy, moments from Deakin University, providing a Full Day Kindergarten program for 3 to 5 year old children. Designed by an Early Childhood Teacher with over 25 years’ experience in the field, the centre has 2 classrooms, with space for 22 children in each class per day, is set on a corner block and has a large outdoor playground for children to explore. The indoors are presented with beautifully planned, naturally lit play spaces that encourage each child’s interaction and involvement. The curriculum is developed by qualified Kindergarten Teachers and incorporates, exploration, play based learning, imagination, child directed inquiry and intentional teaching. Classified as a long Day Care model, the kindergarten provides an educational environment for your child from 8.00am to 5.30pm each day. Families are able to choose the days that best suit their needs, subject to availability, and operates for 49 weeks of the year. Being3 is registered for CCB and CCR and provides before and after care and a holiday program during term break periods. Children are able to commence as soon as they turn 3.
The following hours are included in the daily fee: Before Care: 8.00am – 9.00am Kindergarten program: 9.00am – 3.30pm After Care: 3.30pm – 5.30pm

Local students bringing a splash of colour During Children’s Week in October last year, a number of local pre-schools, primary and secondary schools were invited to paint the hoarding at the site of the new Monash Children’s Hospital. Many local schools have generously supported Monash Children’s Hospital in the past through various fundraising activities and to show our genuine appreciation, these schools were invited to paint a mural dedicated to the new Monash Children’s Hospital. A total of 21 schools participated, with students ranging in age from 3 to 17 years, designed and painted their owpn mural. The positive feedback received from students, teachers and parents about the experience was overwhelming, with many planning their next fundraising event. “This project has been a wonderful experience for our kids, and they were so excited to be participating. It’s so important for our students to feel part of the community and what better way than to help other children” Clayton South Primary School representative said.

With the build of the new hospital well underway and completion due at the beginning of 2017, the Monash Health Foundation has sent out the call to all schools across Melbourne and beyond, to support the new hospital. Funds raised will support the purchase of vital medical equipment and help make the hospital a special and welcoming place for sick children.

Events will be held across Monash to mark Anzac Day (25 April), with the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli being commemorated this year. Local people can pay their respects at the events listed below. If you would like any more information about these events, please contact Council's Events team on 9518 3636. Sunday, 19 April Commemorative Ceremony, from 10.15am (Glen Waverley; Cenotaph, Kingsway, Glen Waverley. The Waverley RSL Sub Branch is hosting this ceremony, which will begin with a march of ex-servicemen and women from the RSL club to the cenotaph. Following the ceremony, a traditional "Gunfire Breakfast" and refreshments will be served at the Waverley RSL Sub-Branch (161 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley). March and commemoration service, 10.15am onwards (Oakleigh) Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Sub Branch is hosting a march beginning at the corner of Drummond and Logie Streets at 10.15am, and will be led by the Oakleigh City Band. Cenotaph, Cnr Drummond Street and Atherton Road, Oakleigh.The commemoration service will take place at the cenotaph from 10.30am. From 11.30am, refreshments will be served at the RSL rooms (95-97 Drummond Street, Oakleigh). Saturday, 25 April Dawn service, from 6am (Glen Waverley) Original Glen Waverley cenotaph, adjacent to Central Reserve, Springvale Road, Glen Waverley. The Waverley RSL Sub Branch is hosting this dawn service.After the service a traditional "Gunfire Breakfast" will be served at the Waverley RSL Sub-Branch (161 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley). A gold coin donation would be appreciated. Dawn service, from 6.15am (Oakleigh) Cenotaph, cnr Drummond Street and Atherton Road, Oakleigh. The Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Sub Branch is hosting this dawn service, which will be followed by breakfast in the hall of the Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Sub Branch. A gold coin donation is required for the breakfast. Local residents are welcome to stay at the RSL to watch the televised ANZAC Parade at the Shrine. Activities during the day, midday-late afternoon (Oakleigh) Oakleigh Carnegie RSL & Warrawee Park, Oakleigh. Two-up competitions will begin at midday, while a sausage sizzle will be held in the beer garden of the RSL from 12.30pm. There will also be children's activities including face painting. At 2pm, the Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Sub Branch Anzac Cup will be held at Warrawee Oval, featuring the Oakleigh Amateur Football Club Under 19s team Sunday, 26 April Spoken word event, 2pm-4pm (Oakleigh) Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Sub Branch, 95-97 Drummond Street, Oakleigh Poems, stories and readings will be read aloud to commemorate Anzac Day. This is a partnership event between the Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Sub Branch and the Annexe Arts Association. Please check with individual RSL Clubs closer to the date to confirm time and place
