Hi, We are selling this magazine. But we will keep it running at a high quality as it has been of, until we find a confident person to take over. More information of selling please refer to page 5. Both of us have been working respectively besides running this magazine since June 2015. Four years have come and gone. Over these years not only did we manage to make Your Child in Monash blossomed but also we got to meet many successful and determined business owners in the areas of Monash, Dandenong, Knox and beyond. Meanwhile since then my workload in a school has increased steadily every year and finally these two years being a full-time teacher besides running the magazines is taking its toll on me. Therefore we have decided to hand it over to another person, who is ready to make changes in life, with ambitions to increase family income, and to improve our local communities. August 2019 Couscous Salad Ingredients 1 cup couscous 1 ½ boiling water 1 red onion, finely chopped 2 tomatoes, diced 1 Lebanese cucumber, diced 3 tablespoons chopped parsley 2 tablespoons chopped mint For dressing ¼ olive oil 2 tablespoons lemon juice ½ teaspoon cumin powder Salt & pepper

Direction Place couscous in a bowl. Pour boiling water. Cover and set aside for 10 minutes. For dressing whisk olive oil, lemon juice, cumin powder, salt & pepper. Mix together the cucumber, tomatoes, onions, parsley and mint. Add couscous and the dressing. Toss until all ingredients are combined well.

这真是一个老掉牙的话题了。多少前人实践过，现在还有多 少人在摸索，我也还没教出中文多好的孩子，为什么又要开始这 个话题呢？我想大抵是因为除了老生常谈的那些方法，我还想说 说最近接触的两种方法。 最近接触的两种方法截然不同，却都有一定的效果。第一种 是运用于商业，适用于很多语种也配备很多教材的AIM语言教育 方法。这个方法已经被一些私校采用，并且短期效果出人意料的 好。这个方法主要就是用手势教学。很多字都用手势来启蒙学 生，让学生看到手势就知道怎么说。跟这个方法紧密连接的是拼 音，不需要非常标准，但学生要能拼读出基本的拼音。这样子的 教学，移除了西语学生学习“汉字”的痛苦，直接跟西语的字母 表联系起来，所以一段时间下来，最基本的打招呼，日常用语学 生都能朗朗上口，而且几年下来，读听初级中文基本是没问题 的。这个方法在日语法语等语言也有很多运用。 我个人实践下来觉得非常适合在校老师授课，特别是一星期 学一节课的低年级孩子。让他们学汉字真是太痛苦了。而且一星 期一节课能学到什么呢？很多老师退而求其次就说文化方面的东 西，饺子筷子长城的都知道一些了，可是小学六七年下来，还是 只能说几个中文字，最糟糕的影响就是一些孩子开始怀疑自己适 不适合学语言，因为毕竟“我都学了这么多年，可是还是无法进 行最基本的交流”。AIM很容易建立孩子的自信，特别是幼小的 孩子。缺点的话，就是初中以上的孩子可能没有这么有效，而且 孩子听读不错，但写和阅读就跟不太上。华人家长可能不会满足 于这种程度的中文。教材也比较贵，如果不是学校出资的话，对 于个体家庭来说是比较昂贵的。
第二种完全不同，也是我在家教孩子的方法。就是从识字开始，不注重写说 听，但注重阅读。也就是让孩子从小就认字读书，不断地积累词汇，积累几百个 以后可以开始介绍拼音，最终目的就是让孩子学会独立阅读中文书籍。因为我一 直觉得，一个人语言能力如果只是要交流地话到一定程度就够了，很多国人也只 是懂这么多而已，但区别人与人之间的文化水平，对中国文化的理解和反思，是 要通过大量阅读中文书来完成的。就像很多人学了英语，但只是学了日常交流， 不读名著不读小说，这样子日常生活完全没问题，可是对于外国文化就不太透彻 了解。“书中自有黄金屋”这句话在学习任何语言都是相通的。这种办法比较好 的就是有一天孩子阅读能力上来了，他的说和听，直到最后的写，都是会互相影 响，一起进步的。当然家长还是要下一些功夫，提供给孩子类似的资料。这种方 法的缺点就是如果你不能每天陪孩子一起阅读，自己也不阅读的话，很难奏效， 甚至一开始举步维艰，停步不前。所以这种一对一的学习方法更适合有时间有毅 力的家长，而不太适合课堂教学。另外比较困难的就是教材的选择，这也要看家 长的偏好和做一些研究。
就像武功一样，AIM的方法能让你把剑术练得出神入化，但你内功是很一般的，所 以要以快取胜，以刀剑的锋利来赢，遇到一般对手能战无不胜，但真正的练家子 一眼就可以看出你内中的空无。而第二种方法是一直练内力，需要夜以继日地练 习，短时间很难看到任何进步，但当内力积累到一定程度，练起任何武功都事半 功倍，更容易参透武功核心。 所以教孩子中文只能自己做决定。自己如果没有太多时间，那就不应该嫌弃第 一种。你学第一种起码孩子还能交流不是？最怕的是家长彻底跟孩子说英语，然 后指望着周六周日去一下中文班孩子就能说中文了。把孩子的教育扔给其他人的 做法，无论在什么科目，都是不可取的。看过太多人失败的例子。而说到失败， 其实看你的期待，有的人就是觉得到了国外，英语说得好比说中文更重要（这个 想法无可挑剔啊），那么也不要逼迫孩子，最怕的不是孩子不说中文，而是开始 怨恨中文。 别的不敢说，中文是一门多么美丽的语言，孩子如果应该我们的教育方式而恨 中文，那才是真正的失败。
