It is the end of year again, again, again!
From the Editor
♥ Your Child in Monash is Overview monthly for the published mums, dads and grandparents of the Monash and surrounding areas. ♥ 5000 copies monthly are distributed in the Monash and surrounding areas.
My shouting is not just for joy. I find it so hard to believe and I try my best to trace how I've lost 365 days again. I have heard a theory that the older you get; the faster the days seem to slip away. Whereas when you are a child, a day might seem like a neverending long period of time. This is not your illusion and you are not alone. We all feel this way, according to Einstein's Comparison theory. Have I achieved any resolutions? Yes and no. I did travel to Hokkaido in Japan with both kids in July; however, I was coughing all the way and that kind of ruined the memory. I did lose weight for a period of time and then gained it back as fast as I could. So next year I must fight against my weight again.

Carol McIvor Announces her retirement after 50 years of service!
Carol is the kind of teacher that you wish would never re re. However, a er 50 years of service in educa on se ngs, she has decided to step down and get ready for the birth of her greatgranddaughter. Maria Montessori Preschool owner Frances introduced Carol to YC Monash editor Rachel Blake (RB) and here is the conversa on. RB: Tell us a bit of yourself. CM: I started as an infant teacher in schools and then taught at Wayburne Preschool for 40 years. It was there that l taught Frances’ sons and we became friends. A er l had re red from Wayburne, Frances encouraged me to join the staff at Maria Montessori. For the last five years l have been in charge of the Art and Cra ac vi es and l also do relief teaching here. RB: What do you think are the differences here? CM: The Montessori programme is more structured than in playbased kinders. We focus on individual needs and the Montessori equipment assists the children to develop their numeracy and literacy skills. Reading is introduced through phone c ac vi es, the same way as l did in my school teaching days. RB: Why did you decide to re re? CM: Fi y years is a nice round figure on which to finish my teaching career. Also, I put a lot of effort into my work which involves preparing six ac vi es per week, library research and wri ng class plans. At 72, l need a rest and would like to do some more overseas travel with my husband. RB: Is there any advice you would like to give to parents? CM: Let your children play at home. Relaxa on or “down me” is an important part of developing well-rounded, confident individuals who are able to adapt to change. 12

编者随笔 因为章子怡重演了《胭脂扣》的经典画面，于是翻出原来的版本看 了一遍，还是不尽兴，又买了李碧华的书，一字一句读了一遍。书的结 尾没有电影好，但一些小细节的描写却细致很多，少了些阴森凄凉，多 了些娇俏温柔。 《胭脂扣》里对一九三几年大寨妓女的描写特别下功夫，写道她们要 经过严格的训练，左右坐姿，要有礼貌，既要有能勾住男人魂魄的眼 神，也要能千杯不醉应付应酬场面，还要软软把话说得人舒服，就如她 们那轻如翼柔如线的手，抚过是让人销魂的。但如花无法懂得现代人为 什么能把春宫戏放到大荧幕，一群人看着还不害臊。所以李碧华是觉得 现代的女子某些方面还不如几十年前的青楼阿姑吗？ 女作家的书大多数能使女人读出满腹的悠悠心事，道不明，扯不 掉，足够哀怨叹惋好一阵，就像那傍晚的夕阳，欲沉不沉，让人想起逝 去。三十出头的我看着这些文字的描写，估摸自己也不能算是女人了， 却也不是十几岁的小女孩改改还能有些仪态，毕竟是两个孩子的妈妈， 心中的念想都在孩子身上。这样的妈妈，李碧华说：“与老公肯定是能 白头到老，但却无法心心相印”。心有戚戚然，这点还需努力，花费全 部力气也不能随了这判词。 现时很多人已不敢谈女人，怕女权主义口诛笔伐，在女权主义的眼 里，女人和男人是一样的。我同意女人和男人的社会地位选择能力等都 应该是一样的。但女人生而为女人，本身就不是男人那种大老粗，我们 细腻的心思使我们更容易多愁善感，有何不妥？愁吧，感吧，生为女 人，却丢失了女人的优势，在我看来才是悲哀的。 如花是知道自己的优势的，她美而自知，她不知道的是怎么生气， 因为“自小没有父母撒娇，也没有兄弟姐妹使唤”到了稍懂事的年龄， 即刻接受各种训练，训练成男人的玩偶。可就是这样的女子，也敢为爱 不回头，义无反顾吞下鸦片，又痴痴在黄泉等了五十多年，最后还以下 辈子折寿为代价上来找十二少。阿楚说：“女人啊，拼尽一切也不知道 为了什么。” 所以又有谁比谁高尚呢？有的只是谁更情痴，谁更刻骨，谁还傻傻 地相信着娥眉自有岁月来描画？ 有女如姝，是你是我。
