elcome back from your holiday! Where did you go for Summer holidays? We have been to China. For three years I had not been back to China and this time I was completely lost with the fast pace of change China is undergoing at this time. Everything can be paid with your phone scan. Even a Claw Crane has a scan code so you can just scan it and pay for the game even if you don't have a coin with you. Take-away applications are so advanced and thanks to the cheap labour, at 10pm you can still order night snack from a range of restaurants and of course you pay online and within 30 minutes, they will send it right to your front door. Yes, it doesn't matter what floor your apartment is on, they go all the way to your doorstep and deliver the food straight into your hands. Do I regret coming to Australia? I don't know. I like the relaxing lifestyle here. People are enjoying life. Air is fresh and food is safe. But at the same time the convenience technology brings to us is so tempting. It used to take me 6 to 8 hours to go back to my hometown from university; with bullet trains it now takes around 3 hours. I came to the conclusion that it is good to work and have your children grow up in Australia, but travelling from time to time is so essential. Hope you had a good time over the break too. 十二生肖鸡的来历传说
鸡王是个好强争胜的家伙，成天 惹事生非，打架斗殴(这种德性今天 都还有残留)。玉帝封生肖的时候， 考虑了动物对人类有无功劳，鸡王当 然也排不上了。有一天，鸡王看到已 封生肖的马受人宠爱，金鞍银澄，心 中十分羡慕，于是上前询问道：“马 大哥，你有今天的荣誉，靠的是什 么?”马回答道：“我平时耕田运 物，战时冲锋陷阵，给人类立下功 劳，当然就应该受到爱戴。”鸡王道：“我要是也能封上生肖，受人 尊重就好了。”马开导鸡王道：“要得到人们的爱戴不难，只要你能 发挥自己长处，给人们实实在在地办点事就行了。拿已封的生肖的动 物来说吧，牛能耕田，狗能守门，猪供人肉食，龙可降雨，你天生金 嗓子，说不定对人类有帮助呢。” 鸡王回到家中，左思右想，终于想到了用自己的金嗓子唤醒沉睡 的人们。于是每天拂晓，鸡王子早早起床，亮开嗓子歌唱，把人们从 睡梦中唤醒。人们对鸡王的功劳十分感激，决定请玉帝把鸡也作为生 赐封为神。 可是，当年玉帝封生肖的标准只要走兽，不要飞禽，六畜中的 马、牛、羊、狗都有份，唯独没有鸡。这下可急坏了鸡王，它怨、急 红了脸，喊粗了脖子，可是毫无结果。 一天晚上，鸡王为这事艳情不通，翻来覆去睡不着，一缕幽灵直 上天宫，来到玉帝殿前，向玉帝哭诉，自己每天司晨，唤起众生，功 劳颇大，去函让入选属相，实在想不通。说完后，泪流不止。玉帝一 想，鸡王的功劳实在大，自己规定的挑选生肖标准确实有误，于是摘 下一朵殿前花戴在鸡王头上，以示嘉奖。 鸡王醒来后，发现头上真有一朵红花。于是它戴着红花去见四大 天王，四大天王认出这是玉帝的“御炉红花”，知道玉帝看重鸡王， 于是破格让鸡王参与生肖竞争。到了争排生肖的那天，鸡又狗同时起 床，相并而行。快到天宫时，鸡怕狗占了先，就连飞带跑扑到前面去 了。狗急起直追，一直没追上，结果排在鸡之后，从此，狗对鸡再无 好感，见到鸡就追。直到今天也余气未消，“狗撵鸡飞”的现象至今 可见。而鸡呢，至今还是红着脸每天司晨，头上戴着一朵漂亮的大红 花。 下午5-7时(即“酉时”)，这时候，日落山岗，鸡开始进笼归窝， 夜宿，于是，酉时属鸡。

如何选小学 （三） 新年伊始，很多学校已 经开始可以参观学校并递上 申请信了（如果孩子是 2018年入学的话），请大家 抓紧时间，到各个学校的网 站或者打电话给学校约个时 间去学校看看。 上一次讲了两种特殊的 学校，今天继续。 华德福教育 华德福是一位奥地利的哲学家创立的一种教学理念。在中国兴起不久。这是 一种比较另类的教学方法，绝对不是单纯的教书，它注重的是孩子身心的自然和 全面发展。特别的地方比如学校是没有教科书的，学生在老师的指导下自己编写 教材，自己配上插图和标记等。华德福很注重农场体验和音乐体验，所以这两方 面也是每个学校必备的。华德福在墨尔本有几所学校，靠近市中心有一所，东北 有一所，莫宁顿半岛还有一所公立的，前两所每年费用跟教会学校差不多多，公 立就是每年交多几百刀就可以去上。 拒绝华德福的家长自有理由，有的人还说这是一套只适合白色人种的教育理 念。但相信的家长却十分推崇，我在网上看到家长自己以前是受过华德福教育 的，坚信并且一定要送自己的孩子也去接受这种教育，因为孩子的人生只有一 个，希望他活得开心，活得全面。华德福在西人家长里是比较推崇的，因为他们 对孩子“快乐人生”的期盼往往大于“考试成绩”，所以更能接受这种理念。 双语教育 笔者本身也是一位语言老师，某次开会听到其他语言老师在讨论，初中才开 始上第二语言的孩子根本没法跟小学就在双语学校学习的孩子竞争。其实语言这 种东西学多真不会乱，而且年龄很重要，孩子越小，越不会混淆，一个调查发 现，如果是5岁以后再学习语言，就会渐渐把这种语言当成第二语言。所以澳洲也 是鼓励家长在家里多跟孩子说母国的语言的。 墨尔本的双语教育大多数在公立学校，所以并没有多出来的费用。只是有些 学校很受欢迎就要开始考虑学区了。目前的双语大多数是法语德语日语和中文。 这里的双语跟很多小学设置第二语言是不同的。大多数学校的第二语言就是学着 玩，因为一个星期就那么一节课。但双语学校是至少一周7个小时以上都是双语教 育，有的课程，比如数学人文，就是用另外一种语言教。很多家长担心，那如果 我的家里完全不讲这种语言，孩子去了会不会跟不上。其实笔者觉得，我们不要 太小看孩子了，孩子的接受能力不是我们大人能想象的。 好了，小学的科普就讲这么多。当然不是全部都很科学，还是带着笔者自己 的见解。非常非常小众的这里就不多讲了。如果有朋友有兴趣，可以到我们的官 微下面留言，笔者会解答。 To advertise in Your Child in Monash call 0425 301 986
