Man On A fundraising walk of galactic proportion supports the Monash Children’s Hospital Scott Loxley is 44 year old father, husband and ex-Australian Defence Force member from Greensborough, Victoria who is on a mission to support his local hospital. He began his long journey to walk his way around Australia in full Star Wars Stormtrooper costume back in November 2013. This astonishing feat will cover roughly 15,000kms and take around 18 months to complete. Scott has already covered Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and is now in Queensland. Scott is aiming to raise $100,000 for the new Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton, due to open in 2017. Pushing his self-made trolley everywhere he goes, Scott has endured heat waves, sandstorms, torrential rains, spent months away from his family, crossed the Nullarbor and even survived a snake bite in Queensland. Scott is a member of the 501st Legion, an international volunteering Star Wars costuming organisation that devotes itself to supporting children’s charities around the world. “I wanted to combine what we achieve for children’s charities in the 501st Legion, with something that would support my local hospital. Monash Children’s are about to begin building a new hospital and I saw this as the perfect opportunity to make a difference”. “As a father, if one of my children were hospitalised, I would want them to be cared for by the best staff that have access to the best equipment. These guys care for over 30,000 children each year, and do an amazing job. No matter how tough things get on the road, I know that there are kids battling just to get through the day and doing it with a smile on their face,” said Scott.
