Foster Carers Making a Difference‌ Brighten the lives of children and consider becoming a foster carer. Foster carers provide a safe home environment for children and young people who can’t live with their own families. The foster care role is very flexible, with several types of care available, including respite (one weekend per month), right through to short-term (up to 3 months) and long-term (up to two years). Carers can also nominate the gender and ages of children they’d like to care for. Carers come from all walks of life and can be single, in a relationship, older or younger. You can work full time, part time or be studying. Key attributes of foster carers include empathy, compassion, resilience, dependability and willingness to work as part of a team. The process of becoming a foster carer can take up to six months. Full training and 24 hour support is provided.

World Class Care Monash Children's Hospital is Victoria’s new children’s hospital providing the highest levels of care to over 32,000 children each year. They are part of the State Paediatric Service providing vital treatment in Neonatal Intensive Care, Paediatric Intensive Care and more. Monash Children’s Hospital is part of Monash Health, Victoria’s largest health service, and includes paediatric healthcare services based at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Dandenong Hospital and Casey Hospital. The dedicated and passionate staff continue to provide specialised, innovative, family-centred care to their patients and families. In addition to providing excellence in clinical care, Monash Children’s Hospital also leads the way in paediatric research and education. They integrate emerging research and knowledge to produce the highest standards in paediatric clinical care. The new Monash Children’s Hospital will be located next to the Monash Medical Centre and is expected to open in early 2017. It will provide 230 beds, 96 in-patient acute beds, 10 paediatric intensive care beds, 20 same-day beds, three operating theatres and a dedicated endoscopy suite.
