Edi EdittorsLetter orsLetter Welcome to the August magazine, How chilly is the weather at the moment? If you’re like me running around after little ones you will be keeping a little warmish! With school back in full swing and all the after school activities, it is hard to remember that you need time too. Have a look at the article on page 6, ‘Getting Back to Eating Naturally’. Life is busy! - hopefully you can spare a few quiet minutes, to sit down and enjoy some of the fantastic reading in this months magazine. Find out about the Newly Renovated Mill Park Library on page 12. Page 14, has an article ‘Going with the Flow,’ when on holidays with a baby, and ‘Difficult Defiance’ can be found on page 24. This month we celebrate both ‘Book Week’ and ‘Science Week’. What’s On, has some exciting activities for you to participate in at your local library, these can be found on page 20. Kids Corner is also celebrating science with an Edible Slime Recipe to make on page 26 and the Hanging with Hannah park report has Hannah visiting the V. R. Michael Reserve, in Lalor. I hope you enjoy reading the August edition,

Rachel

On a sunny, cold and windy Sunday a ernoon, Hannah took Polar Bear out to the park to play. V. R. Michael Reserve has been redesigned into a beau ful play space - there is lots of fun and exci ng climbing equipment, swings, a slide, a spinner, a wobble board and two trampolines. With an amazing Pirate theme - Ahoy There! The play area also includes two rotundas, three park benches for watching your child play, a bbq, a rubbish bin, a drink fountain, and toilets that are close by. Which makes it great for both a picnic or party venue. Hannah’s Tip of the Month - If its sunny, yet cold, rug up with a beanie, jumper and coat to meet your friends at the park for a play.

Mill Park Library has Parents in Mind The newly renovated Mill Park Library is now open! After 11 weeks of fervent bustling activity, it now proudly offers a range of improved services and facilities for the community. It's amazing what new carpet and flooring, fresh paint, new furniture and clear signage can do to a space. The children's area is now a more multi-functional space with movable shelving to increase flexibility for activities. Hooray! There's now a mini stage area that has been developed for storytimes and there is an area dedicated to pram parking. A new cubby house provides a great sensory experience for children of all ages. The Parents' Room has been updated and now includes a nappy-changing station. Don't worry, we've thought of everything. A breastfeeding nook with beautiful exterior book shelving has been designed for maximum comfort. The curved seating provides a little privacy while mothers multi-task – allowing them to effortlessly feed, chat and watch older children. There's even power points close by to charge your phone or pump or whatever your needs may be. Did you know‌ a sound engineer was brought in to assess the space and write a report for the architect? (This included popping balloons around the library!) Now, the addition of acoustic tiles bookending the area is all the shushing needed! They will reduce the impact of the singing and squeals of joy within the area on those reading or concentrating on quiet study throughout the library. The outdoor deck area allows families to participate in outdoor activities or enjoy the natural environment. 8 12

Chancez Café, operated by Araluen, has been constructed and is now centrally located in the library. While coffee and other hot drinks will keep parents happily fuelled, the café now has an oven to be able to offer some hot food options on top of the usual treats. It will also be open 5 days a week! So, if your child is peckish after storytime, there's no need to rush off, you can sit and relax awhile longer at the library with everything you need within reach. Book Express is another new feature. It's a special collection of the best, newest and most popular fiction and non-fiction titles and is perfect for parents on the go with limited time to browse! All titles are available for immediate borrowing for a 3 week loan with no renewals, no holds and a limit of 5 Book Express items at once. So if you are 120 in line for a copy of Michelle Obama's Becoming now is your chance to jump the queue and grab your copy for a quick read.
