New Early Learning Centre opens in Doreen Families living in the City of Whi lesea will benefit from the opening of a brand-new early learning centre at Doreen, which will significantly boost the region's capacity for nurturing children from birth to school age. The $3.8 million mul -purpose centre caters for 120 children from birth to school age and their families, offering: Ÿ Infant, toddler and pre-school aged day care Ÿ Funded kindergarten facili es Ÿ Early childhood interven on Ÿ Family services & community programs, such as supported playgroups Ÿ Training opportuni es for community members, families and staff The State Government provided more than $1.3 million towards building the new centre, while the City of Whi lesea brokered a partnership between Melbourne City Mission and Kearney Partners to jointly contribute the remaining $2.5 million. Melbourne City Mission is responsible for opera ng the centre. Melbourne City Mission Strategic Projects Manager - Early Years, Ms Georda Aldersea, said the Basse s Road ELC would greatly expand child care and early learning op ons for families from Doreen, Whi lesea, Mernda, Nu ield, Yarrambat, Yan Yean, Wollert & South Morang. “With around 60 babies born each week in Whi lesea, these areas have a growing demand for high-quality child development services,” Ms Aldersea said. “Melbourne City Mission has a proven track record in delivering inclusive, par cipatory and family-centred early years services that ensure children and their families are well prepared for their school years.” Basse s Road ELC is Melbourne City Mission's third early years service in Whi lesea, complemen ng its kindergarten programs at Laurimar Community Ac vity Centre and early childhood interven on services at Norparrin in Mill Park. Melbourne City Mission Chief Execu ve Officer, Revered Ric Holland, said Basse s Road ELC would give children and their families in the Whi lesea growth corridor a great opportunity for a successful future.
