Edi t orsLetter Editors Letter Happy New Year to all our readers and welcome to the first edition of Your Child in Whittlesea for 2022. I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas Holiday and are now excited to be heading back for another year of school or kindergarten. Its February, and how excited are all the kids waiting for the new school year to start? With the new year here lets leave 2021 and 2020 behind us ... and begin fresh. Lets enjoy all the excitement of seeing all our old friends and the possibilities of making lots of new friends. Now, is the time to start make new memories - (don’t forget the first day of school photo.) The magazine this month has some fantastic reading, on page 8 Back to School; A Teachers Perspective. Page 10 has an interesting article, Kindergarten - What’s it all about? Page 14 has some handy Tips for parents of children starting back at school. Plus we have some great hints for Capturing the Magic! on page 23 and page 26 there is an article, Dance Mum’s & Dads, How to Choose Well! Kids Cooking Time, page 25, this month Has Mini Chef Siena making some yummy Rice Krispie Treats - (handy for school lunch boxes or after school treats.) On page 24, you will find Kids Corner with a great Back to School colouring in picture. Are you enjoying the beautiful Summer weather? We have been, my children and I love to visit our local parks and bush walking tracks. It has been great to get out of the house and catching up with friends for a walk, bike ride and a play. Hanging with Hannah can be found on page 20, this month she is visiting Gordon & Sheila Ferguson Park, in Hurstbridge - a beautiful park with a fun playground. I hope you enjoy reading the February magazine.

Gordon & Sheila Ferguson Playground is nestled into pre y bushland not far from the Hurstbridge Town Centre. The playground is set under shade sails and has lots of play equipment - Hannah was in her element! There are two tube slides, and a spiral slide, a monkey bar, a spinning set of cups, a basket swing and two standard swings, lots of climbing including a spiders web, fireman’s pole, c-tac-toe and a flying fox. Hannah loved playing in the shop and teaching her puppy’s how to read me. The park offers some under covered sea ng and tables, a park bench near the playground, a bbq, and drink tap. However, there are no toilets. Hannah’s p for the month - On a sunny day, don’t forget to take your puppy’s (or teddy friend) out for a play at the park.

Rice Krispie Treats with Siena Ingredients 3 Tablespoons bu er 40 Marshmallows 6 cup Rice Bubbles Op onal - Mini Smar es to decorate

Method Step 1 - Grease Tray. Step 2 - In a large saucepan melt bu er over low heat, add marshmallows and s r un l completely melted. Remove from heat. (Parent help recommend.) Step 3 - Place rice bubbles into a heat proof bowl and add melted mixture. S r un l well coated. Step 4 - Scoop mixture into tray using a spatula or wooden spoon. Step 5 - Decorate with Mini Smar es, leave plain or other lollies of your choice - (maybe chocolate chips.) Step 6 - Place in the refrigerator to set. Step 7 - When set, cut into small squares.
