March 2015

Editor’s Notice Board Welcome to the March 2015 issue of Your Child in Whittlesea!

This summer season has been interesting to say the least, even given the usual unpredictable “four seasons in a day” nature of Melbourne’s weather. And now we officially enter Autumn, though we do not experience the same prolific changes as countries where deciduous trees are common. However I would like to encourage each of you to locate some trees that do lose their leaves, maybe at the local park, and take your kids to play in the crunchy, dry leaves. Through the year I have the privilege of driving past a large property that is lined with many deciduous trees with maple-like leaves. Every year I watch the leaves change from yellow, gold, orange and finally brown, as they slowly fall and winter settles in on its bare branches. Since I pass these trees only once a week, on the same day, at the same time, I get to see a snapshot of the change as it progresses each week. The beauty of this transformation never ceases to amaze me! Thank you for reading this month’s issue. If you are not already a part of our Facebook

Ready Steady Go Kids

As parents, in the current age of 'electronic technology', it is easy to fall into the trap of handing out screens in exchange for a few minutes of peace. But soon, the minutes turn into hours, and before you know it the kids are hooked! This was a familiar story for local Ready Steady Go Kids franchise‐ owner Danie O'Connor. A mother of 4 young kids under the age of 8, she felt the need to break this habit, and get her kids motivated, active and a part of the community. She found the solution in Ready Steady Go Kids, a multi‐ sports program for pre‐schoolers that not only keeps them active, but also improves gross motor skills, and maximises school readiness and confidence ‐ all this in one physio‐ designed program, it is the whole package! Over the past 4 years, Danie has commenced classes in 13 locations across the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne, with over 600 children now involved in the program. So get your little ones active with Ready Steady Go Kids, and with FREE TRIALS on offer ‐ it is easy to check it out! To advertise in Your Child in Whittlesea Call 9715 2630

BOOK REVIEW MONTY C. TURTLE LEARNS TO SWIM Monty C. Turtle Learns to Swim is a picture book about a baby turtle hatchling that sleeps in when it was time to leave the nest for the ocean. When he wakes up he discovers he is all on his own, and he doesn't know how to swim yet. With the help of some other sea creatures, Monty learns how different creatures move, which is not the same as a Sea Turtle. But with the help of one creature he works out how a turtle moves in the sea. This is a story of a young one gaining confidence, to be himself, and learning to swim in his own unique way. This story was inspired by real life turtle The author, Kara, with her book next to a Flatback Turtle monitoring by authors, Kara Lauder and Dr Mick Guinea.
