This year is just flying by ...! We have some really interesting articles in this months magazine so find yourself a quiet 10 minutes, with a cup coffee in hand, put your feet up and enjoy. Little Athletics Family Fun & Fitness is a great read for parents looking for that new family activity on page 6. There is an interesting readers book review on page 24, Fast at Everything, A story for siblings and families with premature babies. This years Whittlesea Show Editorial can be found on page 10. Your Child in Whittlesea this month is running another amazing competition, you can win a 2 day Family Pass to the Whittlesea Show, see page 21 for more information on how to enter. Kids Corner on page 26 has a Spooky Halloween Maze, while this month’s mini chef is Benji and he has made Halloween Ghost Cup Cakes on page 27. Hannah headed out to McMillan’s Run Playground, South Morang this month, to enjoy the Spring sunshine, however, it was very cold and windy day. Hanging with Hannah can be found on page 12. 2019 160th Annual The Annual Whittlesea Show is an opportunity taken by so many in our community. The weekend of November 2nd & 3rd will be the 160th Show run by the volunteers of the Whittlesea Agricultural Society. Don't miss your opportunity to experience this years theme 'Generation to Generation' and see how this is depicted in most pavilions. Horses will be a huge part of the show with competitions running from Friday as well as the weekend. There is something for everyone at our annual Show including our animal nursery which has many baby animals for the kids to experience, a huge display of education entries from local schools, photography and homecrafts as well as horticulture, woodchop and more. One of this years features is the Iron Revolution strong man & women competition, where contestants will perform many feats of strength to win the title. The grounds will have great trade exhibits from cars to food to many products which are new and

The Arnold Pro Strongman Australia is a feature event in the Arnold Sports Festival, the largest multi-sport festival in the world hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger. One of our showcase events is the Victoria's Strongest Man & Woman competition is one for the country's largest strongman/woman events featuring 50+ of the best competitors from around Oz. This event will be held across Sunday 3rd November.

The ever popular Mounted Games are back bigger and better than ever! Mounted Games are a series of very fast races, exciting for participants and spectators alike, performed by people on ponies.

They require a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills, hand-to-eye coordination, general determination to see things through to the end no matter what, and a competitive spirit which nevertheless requires an ability to work together with other riders and to be willing to help one another. Various roving entertainers and clowns will be roaming over the Showgrounds. Stagecoach rides leave from near the Cattle Pavilion at regular intervals. These are FREE! Heritage Each year a dedicated team of volunteers spend 11 months maintaining the current collection of Heritage equipment. Their display delights children and gives them the opportunity to learn about machinery. The Heritage Section has been improved in many

Animal Nursery This year in the Animal Nursery be sure to check out the new baby animals. There will even be limited access to bottle feed select animals, as well as a more modernised and updated layout of the nursery. Photography The Whittlesea Photography Club Inc. is once again proud to be a part of the Whittlesea Agricultural Show for 2019. As usual we will have an amazing display of photography in the Show competition section. Located in the Men's Shed near the main entrance. The show caters for all levels of Photographic skills and works from Primary School aged children through to some of our most talented local photographers in the Masters section. Our Members will be on hand to talk all things photography related so please come and say “Hello”. Across in our Exhibition rooms you can look forward to seeing the great work that is being produced by our club members. The Club has pushed hard for its members to get some new pieces together just for this event. Many of the works displayed will be available to purchase. There will also be the chance for some interactive photo fun and our ever popular “People's Choice” award with prizes available to the public. Poultry The Poultry Pavilion will have feathers flying with a bevy of birds on display and competing in the Poultry Show including rare birds. Be sure to step inside, pat a chook and get some helpful information on Poultry Breeds and their care. Farm & Garden Enjoy the colourful display and be inspired by the home grown garden produce. Get hands on with a variety of grass seeds and specimens.

Homecrafts The Homecrafts Pavilion is a vibrant hub for everything creative, with more than 4000 incredible exhibits on display, submitted by talented artists, crafters and home cooks all vying for a blue ribbon.

Immerse yourself in the thousands of colours, textures and patterns in the labyrinth of dazzling exhibits on display by our wonderful exhibitors. The decorated cakes are sure to impress along with woodwork, millinery, the intricate crochet work, sewing, handcrafts, confectionary, preserves, the breadth and diversity of the displays provides endless opportunities to be inspired. The most wonderful thing is you can either be an observer or be inspired yourself and put in your own entries. Food Expo Come on up the hill and enjoy this year's Food Expo exhibitors. Among your favourites like Pud 4 All Seasons we have Shearasun Brewing company and MMM coffee. Your lunch options are endless with a choice of pulled pork, goat sausages, gourmet pies and even gluten free fare. To top it off you can choose from Timboon Icecream, gourmet donuts, candied nuts or bakery treats from Turners Bakehouse. You can also enjoy your favourite local wine or cider from Shaws Rd Winery. h a n n a H h t i w Hanging McMillan’s Run Playground South Morang

This month Hannah visited McMillan’s Run Playground, for a quick play. It was a nice sunny day, however, s ll cold and windy. The park is very beau fully landscaped and peaceful. It was lovely to listen to Hannah’s giggling as she played. The park has some great play equipment - a windy slide, a double baby slide, fireman’s pole, a spinner, a see-saw, a small climbing wall, a disability swing, baby swing and a child’s swing. Other facili es include - 4 park benches, and a shelter. Hannah is looking forward to the warm days arriving and many more park adventures.

Ghost Cup Cakes

Cup Cakes

Meringue Ghosts

100g butter 2/3 cups caster sugar 1 tsp vanilla essence 2 eggs (lightly beaten) 1 cup self-rasing flour (sifted) 1/3 cup cocoa (sifted) 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda 1/2 cup milk

4 egg whites (room temp) pinch salt 1 cup caster sugar

Method: Cup Cakes Step 1 - Preheat oven to 180C and line a cup cake n with cases. Step 2 - Cream bu er and sugar and vanilla using an electric mixer, un l fluffy. Gradually add eggs un l combined. Step 3 - Combine and si flour, cocoa and bicarbonate soda. Add to creamed mixture and milk. Beat un l combined. Step 4 - Spoon mixture into liners approx. 1/3 full. Bake for 15-20 minutes.

Method: Meringues Step 5 - Preheat oven to 120C and line two baking trays. Step 6 - In a clean, dry bowl place egg whites and salt. Using an electric beater, beat egg whites un l so peaks form. Step 7 - Add sugar slowly, one spoonful at a me and con nue to whisk each one in un l just combined. Once all the sugar has been combined, con nue to whisk un l mixture is very thick and glossy. Step 8 - Test that the sugar has dissolved from the mixture by rubbing it between your fingers. If s ll gri y the mixture needs a li le more whisking. Step 9 - Drop tablespoons of mixture onto trays, leaving room for expansion. Step 10 - Reduce oven temperature to 100C and place in oven to cook for approx. 1.5 hours. To check if cooked tap on the underside and it should sound hollow. Step 11 - Once cooked, turn oven off but leave in oven to cool for 3-4 hours. Step 12 - Using icing join meringue ghost to cup cake and add icing eyes!
