Edi EdittorsLetter orsLetter Welcome to the September magazine, How exciting is it ... Spring has finally arrived! Spring is one of my favourite times of the year. I really enjoy getting outside with my children and looking at all the beautiful flowers that are slowly emerging after Winter. Spring is also a great time to dust off your bike or start walking to school in the beautiful morning sunshine. This month there is an interesting read for parents on the Role of Arts in Childhood Development on page 24, and a fantastic article on page 18 about the benefits of keeping your household finances in check. This month in Kids Corner we have a scavenger hunt to get the kids outside, enjoying the nice spring weather. Your Child in Whittlesea this month is running a competition to win a Family Pass to the Royal Melbourne Show, see page 5 for more information. Don’t forget to have a look at Hanging with Hannah on page 10, this month Hannah visited the new Mernda Playground. If you have a favourite park for Hannah to come and visit, please email us to let us know where it is - info@yourchildinwhittlesea.com.au Wishing all the dads, step dads, and grandfathers a wonderful Father’s Day,

Rachel

Lasting Lessons believes in shaping genuine literacy growth and development in every child. Its collaborative partnerships with parents represent a continued venture with you until individual learner needs are met. Lasting Lessons offers small group literacy classes for preschool and early primary learners. Children learn about the six early literacy skills about reading and writing that are needed before they even can read and write. These six early literacy skills are fostered using a multisensory approach. During engaging and enjoyable activities, children use their sight, hearing, movement and touch to help them learn. Lasting Lessons also specialises in offering one-to-one literacy tutoring to assist growth. These lessons are for primary school aged students and students in early secondary school and are individualised to address specific literacy challenges, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency practice, vocabulary and comprehension. Lasting Lessons only uses research-based literacy instruction and strategies. The OrtonGillingham Approach to reading is used at Lasting Lessons which is recognised for supporting students who have difficulty with reading, spelling, and writing, and in addressing the challenges met by students with Dyslexia. Director, Sandra Sartor, is an experienced and dynamic teacher driven by a passion to encourage all learners in reaching their true potential as readers, writers and thinkers. She is gifted in establishing rapport with all learners and in empowering them with literacy confidence. Sandra Sartor is distinctively characterised by her commitment to focus individualised time and effort in developing specific literacy programs to meet each learner's exact needs.
