Your guide to your
Solar Photo Voltaic System
Safety first The system is fully automatic and completely safe when used normally. If there is anything you are concerned about please call us on 0191 277 8888 immediately.
Your solar PV system is helping to reduce CO2 emissions and reliance on fossil fuels while saving you money on your electricity bill. The solar PV system on your roof reduces CO2 emissions by about a tonne a year, about the same as a 3000 mile car journey!
Frequently Asked Questions 1. How much could I save?
Introduction Solar PV panels generate electricity whenever there is daylight. The electricity the cells produce flows through a cable and is collected at a central point, often located in the roof space. It is then converted (by a device called an inverter) into a form of electricity that can feed into your household electricity system.

To lights, appliances etc
The amount of money you will save depends on how much of the electricity generated by the PV is used in your home. This depends on: • when you use the electricity • whether you are at home and using appliances during the day • whether you can change the time you run your appliances. For example, you would save more by running your washing machine during the day (when the solar PV system is generating electricity) instead of at night.
2. How can I get the most out of my system? Try to use large appliances like tumble dryers, washing machines and dishwashers during the day. Many appliances have built in timers that can be used.
3. Does it have to be sunny? No, but the system generates most electricity when the sun is shining brightly. Continued overleaf
4. Will solar PV supply electricity 24 hours a day? No, solar panels convert light into electricity, so as the light reduces in the day, so does the output of the solar panel.
5. Will I have to pay anything towards the equipment? No, you will not be expected to contribute financially.
6. Do I need to read the meter? No, the meter automatically transmits the reading using mobile phone technology.
7. How can I tell if the system is working? The system is completely automatic but we will get weekly updates on the amount of electricity generated. If any output is unexpectedly low we will arrange a visit to inspect the system and repair any faults.
