hey’re one of the most successful couples on the eventing circuit today, with a truly phenomenal competition record. Between them Clayton and Lucinda have notched up wins at nearly all the major events, including Burghley, Badminton and Lexington, and also been part of medal-winning Olympic and WEG teams. So you could be forgiven for thinking they might be ready to take things a little more quietly – but slowing down doesn’t seem to be on either of their agendas. Both are working towards selection

for the London 2012 Olympics and, in the meantime, a string of exciting youngsters is keeping them busy at home. This includes superstar Headley Britannia’s two first foals, who are now backed and showing great promise. “We’re really looking forward to Your Horse Live,” says Lucinda. “The best thing for us about doing lecture demos is when we get an audience that wants to learn and isn’t shy about asking questions and getting involved. That’s what makes it so rewarding – and fun! We’re certain the audience at Your Horse Live won’t let us down!”
hey’re two of dressage’s brightest young stars – and Maria and Michael Eilberg are coming to Your Horse Live! With a father, Ferdi, who’s one of the most highly respected dressage trainers around, it’s perhaps not surprising that brother and sister Michael and Maria have chosen a career in horses, but it’s their own hard work and talent that’s got them where they are today. At 26 years old, Maria has been a member of the British Pony, Junior and Young Rider dressage teams. Now, as a Senior, she was a member
of the British team for the World Equestrian Games this September and is working towards the 2012 Olympics. Michael, 23, started out as a successful show jumper and only took up competitive dressage in 2007. He’s now competing at Grand Prix and is a member of the World Class Development Squad. Maria explains: “This is the first demo that Mike and I will have given on our own – usually we have Dad there to organise us – so we’re very excited about it! We‘re looking forward to showing off our horses and explaining our training methods.”

lending Cossack trick riding with elements of traditional Spanish equestrianism and a punk rock attitude, Rockin’ Horse was formed in 2003 by stunt rider Guido Louis. Guido originally learnt his trick riding skills from a Cossack family in Germany before setting up with his own horse and stunt riding act. He soon came to perform at some of the most prestigious shows in the equestrian calendar, including The Horse of the Year Show, and also at mainstream entertainment venues such as Disneyland. Since Rockin’ Horse was formed, Guido has performed across the world. He now spends much of his year in Oman, working at the Omani

ou could be forgiven for thinking Geoff is older than his 52 years – he’s been at the top of his game, and a fixture on the international show jumping scene, for so long! Notching up wins at the Horse of the Year Show, the British Open and Hickstead, he’s also been a regular on the British and Nations Cup teams. This is Geoff’s first visit to the Main Arena at Your Horse Live. With a reputation as one of the best speed riders in the world, he’ll be showing
how to make jumping at speed natural and easy for any horse. And, if we’re lucky, he’ll also be showing just what can be done with a balanced and obedient horse when the handbrake is off and the foot is to the floor! “Jumping at speed shouldn’t be a scary experience for either horse or rider,” explains Geoff. “I hope that everyone will come away with something they can take home and use to improve their own horse, whatever that horse’s level, personality and experience.”

hether you’ve already dabbled with dressage to music, or whether the thought appeals but you don’t know where to start, Grand Prix dressage rider Beverley Brightman will guide you through the process from start to finish. From identifying music that suits your horse’s gaits and natural rhythm to choreographing a floorplan, Beverley will make it all come to life. Plus she’ll be finishing with one of her own dazzling showpieces – something for us all to aspire to! We all dream of being better riders but sometimes the harder we try, the worse our faults and problems seem to become. Mary Wanless has spent her career coming up with imaginative solutions to help us all reach our potential. This year at Your Horse Live she’ll be working with some lucky Your Horse readers. As

always with Mary’s demonstrations, it’s sure to be a thought-provoking session. Richard Maxwell will be working with a range of horses during the weekend, all of whom exhibit some of the most common problems he encounters during his work, whether that’s reluctance to load, go forward while being ridden or perhaps standing while being mounted. Max has a unique approach to such problems, marrying the best of traditional thinking with his own take on natural horsemanship. It can often be difficult to be inspired and enthused each time we enter the arena to school. Perhaps you don’t know what to work on, or perhaps you know what the problems are but are lacking the tools to solve them. Claire Lilley has made a name for herself as a logical, clear and
Dressage to music
Discover this exciting sport in the Dodson & Horrell Arena supportive trainer, who has developed a number of exercises that we can all add to our training repertoire. Claire will show how pole work can be beneficial to every horse – whether it’s training for dressage or jumping. Seeing a stride is one of those
topics that can strike fear into many of us. Worry about how to do it – and what will happen if we get it wrong – can make it almost impossible to concentrate on getting over the fence! FBHS and top event coach Caroline Moore will be unravelling the mysteries of seeing a stride, and taking some of the fear out of approaching a fence. She’ll also be working on crosscountry technique and specifically looking at accuracy – so important when travelling at speed across country. And, finally, are you considering taking on an ex-racehorse – or have you already done so? Olympic silver medallist Karen Dixon will explain how, with the right support and skills, taking on an ex-racer can be the smart choice, while showing some practical ways to deal with some of the common issues that these horses can have.

Whether they’re tall or small, hairy or sleek, every single one of the horses and ponies in the Your Horse Live Breeds Village has a fascinating history behind it. Come along and meet these equine ambassadors, and have a chat to the devotees who’ve brought them here. There’s the chance to meet the tough and hardy Australian Stock Horse, still an essential part of many cattle ranches down under, and the regallooking Lusitano, which is increasingly making a name for itself as a competition horse. The tough and beautiful Haflinger will be there, as well

Our chance to give Everything for you something back and your horse For 2010 we’ve chosen a charity named in memory of Remus, a horse who was abandoned and tied to a lamppost for 13 days. When he was finally rescued, despite everyone’s best efforts, it was sadly too late. The Remus Memorial Charity now works to look after more than 100 horses and ponies who, like Remus, have suffered appalling neglect and cruelty.
