London Craft Week

13 – 19 May

Returning for its 10th-anniversary edition with a dynamic programme of events taking place across the capital from 13 - 19 May, London Craft Week brings together the work of established and emerging artists, makers and designers, showcasing the best of craftsmanship from around the world.

Celebrating this important milestone, LCW’s curated programme reflects on the evolution of the craft sector over the past decade. It pays tribute to the hero makers who played a crucial role in the sector’s transformation, contributing to the interest in high-quality, one-of-a-kind products, while anticipating the trends and developments that will define the next decade of craftsmanship.

Spanning craft, art, design, luxury, fashion and accessories, LCW delves into the narratives behind the world’s most exquisite objects, exploring inspirations, materials and processes, through a programme of immersive experiences, original exhibitions, masterclasses, workshops and demonstrations. Unsung hero makers, artists and brands are celebrated alongside famous artists and designers, national museums and contemporary galleries, embracing the sheer reach, diversity and serendipity that London offers as the world’s great creative capital.

Guy Salter, Chairman of London Craft Week says: “It seems like yesterday that The King & Queen launched the first London Craft Week in 2015. Now, in our tenth year, we host over 225,000

visitors, 520 events and 700 artists and makers. Our aims remain the same: to bring alive exceptional craftsmanship from across the UK and around the world by tapping into the energy, diversity and serendipity of our city. In a small way, I hope we have in turn contributed to London’s cultural credentials and reinforced the importance of making. One of the many things I personally love about our journey is the way in which the festival welcomes artist-makers from so many nations and backgrounds, who are brought together through shared creativity and the joy of making”

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, LCW is introducing a lineup of specially curated events, including, Secret Ceramics in partnership with FiredUp4. This charitable initiative, presented at SoShiro Gallery, showcases more than 100 singlestem vessels created by leading artists, influencers and graduate talents - but as the name suggests, contributors to this exhibition will remain anonymous until after a piece is sold. All works will be sold at a fixed price of £300 with buyers encouraged to make an additional voluntary donation. Collectors can look to identify works by established artists such as Kate Malone, Hitomi Hisono, Aneta Regel, Frances Priest, Lucille Lewin and Luke Fuller through their signature styles, but also acquire work by talented new-comers, whose work demands our attention through its beauty alone. Cultural influencers such as Zandra Rhodes, Kit Kemp and Nina Campbell are also making new works to the sale. The project will support the opening of a new FiredUp4 ceramic studio in White City, enabling young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to experience the power of working with clay.

To further mark the occasion of its 10th anniversary, LCW will launch a new partnership with cultural placemaking and public art agency New Public, to present the inaugural edition of Modern Masters, a free outdoor programme of contemporary art. The site-specific programme aims to celebrate the role of craftsmanship in the work of leading and established contemporary artists - since without critical skills such as welding, casting, glassblowing, and carving, modern art would not exist as it does today. The first edition, Chihuly at Chelsea Barracks, will feature works by renowned American glass artist Dale Chihuly, known for his vibrant, often grand-scale sculptures

and installations shaped by gravity and centrifugal force. LCW continues its partnership with international arts hub Cromwell Place, with a dedicated programme celebrating métiers d’art and elite craftsmanship. Spanning the fields of craft, art, design and luxury, the presentations at Cromwell Place will share stories behind some of the world’s most beautiful objects - the material, the maker, the process and the inspiration. The programme includes: an immersive exhibition celebrating craftsmanship and beauty, presented by an established Maison on the ground-floor, the Homo Faber Fellowship exhibition featuring 20 co-created works by master artisans and their fellows, and presentations by the leading international craft galleries Soluna Craft, Lloyd Choi and Vessel Gallery. Soluna Craft will present a group of new works by makers including Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2022 winner Dahye Jeong, recognised for her intricately woven horsehair vessels, UKbased glass artist Keeryong Choi, ceramic artist Sam Chung and metalwork artist Woosun Cheon. Lloyd Choi will present a curated group show, Hidden Gems, including a presentation by the self-taught South Korean textile artist Lee So-re, who uses ‘Jogakbo’ (a traditional style of Korean patchwork made using pieces of salvaged fabrics) alongside leading South Korean artistmakers Mok-su (wood), Shin Sung-hyun, (nak-doing traditional scorching in furniture), Yun Ju-cheol (ceramic), Shing Dongbeom (ceramic), Kim Hyun-ju (mother of pearl) and Choi Boram (ceramic).

LONGITUDE TITANIUM

Arnold & Son, a benchmark in classic fine watchmaking, is exploring uncharted territory on the map of horology. Longitude Titanium is a sports-chic COSC-certified chronometer with a 42.5 mm titanium case. The dial of Longitude Titanium is vertical satin-finished in a continuation of the bracelet’s finish, which is subtly intersected by the polished edges of its links. With a power-reserve display at 12 o’clock and an imposing seconds counter at 6 o’clock, Longitude Titanium pays tribute to John Arnold’s marine chronometers, his revolutionary vision and his decisive role in calculating longitude at sea.

The aesthetics and construction of John Arnold’s marine chronometers were necessarily classic and functional, and were adapted to the harsh conditions of the high seas. Longitude

Titanium, a contemporary interpretation of the great English watchmaker’s work, coherently combines this naval heritage with a refined design and highly resistant materials. The movement’s ‘chronometer’ certification is an essential addition to this scene, with its historical ties to Arnold’s creations and his quest for accuracy.

As a natural consequence of this maritime identity, Longitude presents a titanium case whose curves and profile are directly inspired by the design of contemporary sailing boats. The case middle is taut like a ship’s waterline, while the case back is basin-shaped like a keel. The base of the bezel - the ship’s rail - is graduated with 60 notches, echoing the fluted ring of John Arnold’s marine chronometers. The finishes - polished on the flanks and satin-finished on the flat surfaces - continue this highsea influence. The crown, protected by a shoulder, is screwed down to guarantee water-resistance to 100 metres.

With its flowing curves, Longitude Titanium is both comfortable to wear and a joy to behold. Each of the series is fitted with an integrated titanium bracelet. Everything is rounded with no straight lines, even in the finer details as the links themselves are domed. The succession of gentle curves and combination of polished and satin-finished surfaces are a continuation of the case’s identity. Longitude Titanium is complemented by an interchangeable system and comes with an additional rubber strap.

ARNOLD & SON

The dial of Longitude Titanium has been designed in a graphic and historical spirit. This graphic aspect can be seen in the satinfinished, polished and luminescent hour-markers that recall the shape of the bracelet links. It is also graphic in the display of its indications, which are aligned with the vertical axis of the dial: a mirror-polished power-reserve indicator shown by cut-outs in the dial at 12 o’clock, the hour and minute hands in the centre, and the imposing small seconds at 6 o’clock. However, this layout was also chosen for its ties to John Arnold’s marine chronometers, as it was he who introduced this arrangement and established it as standard.

Cornwall, John Arnold’s birthplace, inspired the colours of the Longitude dials. The first edition, limited to 88 timepieces, is adorned with a sandy golden shade called ‘Kingsand’ in reference to the eponymous beach, which is one of the county’s hidden jewels. The second version sports an ocean blue, while the third and final series is a fern green.

During the 18th century, maritime trade was the main source of wealth. New routes opened up on the three major oceans, offering vast prospects. However, high-sea navigation was hampered by as yet incomplete maps and charts and, above all else, by inaccurate longitudes, i.e. the position of boats on the east/west axis. In 1714, the British Parliament passed the Longitude Act, which offered a prize of twenty thousand pounds to anyone who could develop a simple and dependable method for determining the longitude of a ship at

sea. Briton John Harrison thus invented the marine chronometer, which would be used for centuries to come. His method involved measuring the difference between the local time on the boat, by finding solar noon, and the time of an onboard precision clock capable of keeping the time at the port of departure. John Arnold developed, improved and simplified the principles presented by Harrison. He started to supply his marine chronometers in 1771, which were more robust, affordable, extremely accurate and would go on to become essential to high-sea navigation.

At the heart of Longitude Titanium beats the new A&S6302 calibre, certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). It is wound by an oscillating weight with a design influenced by sailing. Its shape is reminiscent of the prow of an 18th-century English frigate cleaving through the water, and it is carved from a single block of 22-carat gold. Its felloe is engraved with graduations similar to those on a sextant - another maritime element.

The calibre is lavished with the same high standard of finishes commonly seen at Arnold & Son, such as chamfered bridges with the house’s specialty ‘Rayons de la Gloire’ motif. Like all its movements, the A&S6302 was entirely developed, produced, decorated, assembled, adjusted and cased up at the Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This calibre features a large barrel and an oscillation frequency of 4 Hz, providing a 60-hour power reserve. arnoldandson.com

42MM FIFTY FATHOMS

Blancpain has unveiled its new 42mm-diameter Fifty Fathoms Automatique models. After presenting its first case of this size in steel on last year’s Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1 limited edition, the Manufacture is now offering it in red gold and titanium, as well as including it in the current collection.

Born in 1953, the Fifty Fathoms marked a turning point in watchmaking history. The first true diver’s watch, it established the fundamental technical and aesthetic codes for this type of toolwatch. Its sturdiness, water-resistance, secure rotating-bezel system, anti-magnetism and extreme legibility are all features designed specifically for scuba diving that were adopted by the entire industry at the time and have endured to this day. The Fifty Fathoms was given a new lease on life in 2003 by President & CEO Marc A. Hayek, who ushered it into the 21st century. His gamble paid off, as this fervent diving enthusiast also made 2007 a year to remember with the launch of the 45mm Fifty Fathoms Automatique. Equipped with specially developed Calibre 1315, this model marked the debut of a whole new Fifty

Fathoms generation. This movement also went on to find its place in the Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1, the first timepiece (issued in a limited edition) celebrating the 70th anniversary of the inaugural model in 2023 and featuring a 42mm case. This year, however, watch enthusiasts wishing to own high-performance Calibre 1315 - a robust and accurate self-winding movement ensuring a substantial and reliable five-day power reserve thanks to its three series-coupled barrels - will be delighted to know that the Manufacture is now offering the 42mm diameter in its current collection with the new Fifty Fathoms Automatique models.

Retaining their predecessor’s pleasing proportions, these new 42mm watches are available in red gold and grade 23 titanium. The elegance and sophistication of gold makes them alluringly chic, while grade 23 titanium endows them with a sporty look. Reputed to be the purest of its kind, this metal is lightweight and highly resistant to scratches and corrosion, alongside its anti-allergenic properties. The collection’s characteristic sapphire-topped bezel is also synonymous with robustness and ensures impeccable legibility.

Beating at the heart of these new watches is Calibre 1315: a movement boasting unrivalled chronometric (precision timing) performance and that is designed, built, produced, assembled and adjusted in-house. Equipped with a stop-seconds function, it enables extremely precise time-setting. This calibre entirely decorated in keeping with Haute Horlogerie traditions has an 18K red gold oscillating weight - also decorated and sporting an NAC coating - whose design is inspired by the rotor of the historical 1953 timepiece. Presented with a blue or black dial, the red gold and titanium versions come with a wide choice of straps (in matching colours) ranging from sail-canvas to NATO and a Tropic textured rubber iteration inspired by the 1953 model, while the titanium bracelet rounds off the range dedicated to the case in the same material.

The new, non-limited Fifty Fathoms Automatique red gold or grade 23 titanium timepieces are available in a wide range of combinations and look set for a bright future with their longawaited smaller diameter.

CELEBRATING ICONS

Breitling honours its aviation and space icons with an array of releases: the Navitimer GMT and Automatic 41, and a limited-edition self-winding Cosmonaute, while sports superstars Erling Haaland and Giannis Antetokounmpo headline the Navitimer campaign as Breitling celebrates its 140th anniversary.

As Breitling turns 140, it’s marking the occasion with stories of its many incredible firsts, from breakthroughs in timekeeping for air, land, and sea, to milestones in sustainability. This month, the brand recognizes two of its icons. The Navitimer - the first wristwatch for pilots to combine a chronograph and a computational slide ruleand the Cosmonaute - a 24-hour take on the Navitimer that became the first Swiss wristwatch in space. New versions of these lines: the Navitimer GMT and Automatic 41, along with a new self-winding Cosmonaute have been launched in celebration.

Breitling played a key role in the emergence of commercial flight. Its onboard timekeepers became standard equipment, first in propeller planes and later in the jets produced by the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers. When the design of the Breitling Navitimer came out in 1952, it was an instant hit with airline pilots in the thennascent field of civil aviation.

The Navitimer featured a circular slide rule that allowed pilots to make critical calculations, such as rate of climb and fuel consumption. In those glory days of commercial air travel, the Navitimer was the original wrist-worn onboard computer and ultimately established Breitling as the “Official supplier to world aviation”.

As civil aviation expanded, so did the Navitimer’s fame, attracting not just pilots but also trendsetters such as Miles Davis and Serge Gainsbourg, becoming a beloved icon in both aviation and pop culture.

Breitling began redesigning the Navitimer line in 2022, starting with the original chronograph. Today, it continues that update with two new pared-down executions: a GMT and a three-hand Automatic, each in a universally wearable 41mm size.

These pieces distill the Navitimer’s iconic look, omitting the chronograph yet preserving a balanced dial composition. The central placement of the 24-hour scale on the GMT and the Automatic’s clean face ensure the intricate slide rule stands out while streamlining the overall

breitling.com

aesthetics.

Further refining the collection, Breitling incorporated a notched bezel for a contemporary touch, and alternating polished and brushed finishes that add a dynamic play of light. Straps in alligator leather and bracelets with a seamless butterfly clasp offer comfort and convenience.

The palette includes black, blue, silver, ice blue, and green dials, encased in stainless steel or 18 k red gold, and a twotone variant for the Automatic. The full-gold versions carry the Origins label, signifying responsibly mined gold in line with the Swiss Better Gold Association’s environmental and social standards.

This reinvention of the Navitimer, marrying the classic with the contemporary, is tailored for enthusiasts and the style-conscious alike, promising Breitling’s commitment to heritage and innovation in each timepiece.

In 1962, Mercury Seven astronaut Scott Carpenter approached Breitling with a unique request: to modify the Navitimer’s design for space exploration. Admiring its computational prowess, Carpenter asked for a 24-hour dial to distinguish day from night in orbit. Breitling met the challenge, and the customized Navitimer, later dubbed the Cosmonaute, accompanied Carpenter on his May 24, 1962, mission to become the first Swiss wristwatch in space.

To mark Breitling’s 140th anniversary, it is releasing a limited edition of the 24-hour timepiece. This time, however, the main modification isn’t for zero-g but for everyday life: a self-winding chronograph movement, the Breitling manufacture caliber B12.

The new release is limited to 250 pieces and only available through Breitling’s online and in-store boutiques. It features an 18k red-gold case, beautifully complemented by its deep green dial, golden numerals, and black alligator leather strap.

Flip the watch to see the open caseback view of the contrasting oscillating weight capping the B12 movement. The manufacture caliber provides approximately 70 hours of power and comes with a 5-year warranty. A caseback engraving states the “One of 250” limitation and reveals the watch’s incredible story: “First Swiss Wristwatch in Space/Navitimer Cosmonaute May 24,1962.”

Inspired by astronauts, adapted for life on Earth, the new Cosmonaute limited edition merges storied heritage with modern ease of wear.

PRECISELY ATHLETIC

Ahead of the opening matches of Patrick Mouratoglou’s UTS 2024 season, which Zenith proudly continues its role as Official Timekeeper, it unveiled the lightest iteration of its award-winning 1/10th of a second with the Chronomaster Sport Titanium - along with a new range of integrated rubber straps.

Zenith joined the action once again as a sponsor and official timekeeper of Patrick Mouratoglou’s quite literally game-changing tennis league. UTS is the brainchild of celebrated French tennis coach, entrepreneur and Zenith friend of the brand. As someone who has dedicated his life to the sport, Mouratoglou set out with the mission to bring tennis to a younger and wider audience, while also encouraging players to express themselves on the court in a more natural way than what traditional tennis tours usually allow. With a shorter and more intense format, consisting of matches played over 4 quarters of 8 minutes, the emphasis is on entertainment.

As the Official Timekeeper of UTS since its first edition in 2020, Zenith continues to lend its support to the groundbreaking and youthful tennis championship, which has seen its fandom grow tremendously across the world since its first season.

The latest sporty chronograph, built to take on those adrenaline-filled moments where every move can be a decisive one is the Chronomaster Sport Titanium and the line’s new range of integrated rubber straps.

Elevating the sense of performance as well as endurance, titanium boasts many advantages over traditional alloys used in watchmaking. It is significantly lighter than steel, a property appreciated in sports to keep motion and balance unhindered. It has one of the highest strength-to-density ratios of all metallic elements, ensuring robustness. It’s also very resistant to corrosiona welcome feature when working up a sweat. It’s also paramagnetic, which means precision is given an added layer of protection from external magnetic fields. With such a unique combination of properties, it’s no wonder that titanium is used in some of the most high-tech and demanding fields.

To highlight the sleek grey tones of grade 5 titanium, the Chronomaster Sport Titanium’s 41mm case is given a

predominantly satin-brushed finish - including the crown and pump-style pushers. The bezel, also crafted in titanium and engraved with a 1/10th of a second scale, features a sunburst satin-brushed decoration that truly sets it apart from all other Chronomaster Sport references. The case and bracelet’s chamfers as well as the rim of the bezel and the case back are polished, which is only possible when working with higher grades of titanium. Keeping with the case’s muted chromatics, the Chronomaster Sport Titanium’s dial reinterprets Zenith’s signature tricolour design in shades of grey. The sunray-patterned dial is done in a galvanic nickel-grey colour, features chronograph counters in three different tones of anthracite, grey and silver. The three-link bracelet is also with an adjustable clasp is also made in vertically satin-brushed titanium. A tangible difference can immediately be felt when wearing the Chronomaster Sport Titanium, which weighs 30% less than its steel equivalent.

And for those seeking an even sportier look and feel, Zenith has launched a new line of straps it has developed for the Chronomaster Sport line as an alternative reference to the metal bracelets and also available to purchase separately. Crafted from durable and supple FKM rubber, which is considered the gold standard of rubber for its ability to withstand extreme heat and its resistance to aggressive chemicals, the straps are designed to be perfectly integrated with the case. Available in black, blue, green and white, the straps are delivered with folding clasps.

The latest in a long line of Zenith chronographs that have raised the bars of performance and precision, the Chronomaster Sport Titanium is equipped with the latest version of the El Primero calibre, dubbed the El Primero 3600. With its high frequency of 5 Hz (36’000 VpH), the movement offers a true 1/10th of second indication. Its autonomy has also been rendered more efficient, with an extended power reserve of 60 hours. The sapphire display back provides an unobstructed view of the movement’s contemporary, architecture features a sleeker and more open design, revealing a blue column wheel and open rotor marked with the five-pointed star Zenith.

STELLAR ROYAL OAK

YOUR WATCH

Audemars Piguet has teamed up with American singer, guitarist, watch collector and longstanding friend of the brand John Mayer to design the last iteration of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar equipped with the Manufacture’s selfwinding Calibre 5134. For the occasion, John Mayer has applied his sensibilities to create a distinctive timepiece, limited to 200 pieces, that combines the aesthetic power of the Royal Oak with the refinement and astronomical roots of the perpetual calendar. The result is a timelessly elegant watch in 18-carat white gold, enhanced by a deep blue dial where every detail speaks in unison to create a landscape evocative of a crystal sky.

Audemars Piguet’s collaboration with the seven-time Grammy ® Award-winning artist, and fervent watch collector, continues the enriching dialogues the brand has nurtured over the years with talented individuals, whose creative vision has led to the creation of micro-mechanical wonders blending technical complexity with distinctive designs. A long-lasting friend of the brand, John Mayer lent his collector’s eye and his taste for precision and aesthetic beauty to the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. He proposed a highly contemporary design that seamlessly evokes the timelessness and refinement at the heart of the perpetual calendar, while bringing the instantly recognisable aesthetic codes of the Royal Oak to the fore. With its cosmic air, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition puts Calibre 5134 in the history books, while opening up new aesthetic horizons for the Royal Oak collection as a whole.

John Mayer worked hand in hand with the AP teams to design a picturesque “Crystal Sky” dial, whose texture and vastness lend depth to a complication that has shaped the world of Audemars Piguet since its beginnings. Each detail harmoniously combines to give the timepiece a sense of infinity. The brass dial plate is finished with a new scintillating pattern developed by Audemars Piguet’s artisans to give life to John Mayer’s vision. The embossed motif is composed of irregular shapes resembling crystals, whose sharp angles and facets add relief and brilliance to the piece. To achieve this level of detail and complexity, the stamping die was created atom by atom, through a metal deposition process known as electroforming.

For this limited edition, the new motif has been created in a deep blue shade using Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD), a technique that preserves and enhances the depth of the pattern, while maximising the play of light. The textured dial is complemented by subdials in a matching blue PVD colour that display the day at 9 o’clock, the month and leap year at 12 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock. To provide visual contrast, the calendar indications are printed in white on the blue outer zones of the subdials, while the weeks appear in white on the dial’s blue outer ring. Similarly, the 18-carat white gold hour-markers and hands stand out against the blue background, their luminescent material making them even more visible in dim light.

To enhance legibility and aesthetic harmony, John Mayer has brought subtle modifications to the perpetual calendar display that only become apparent on closer inspection. While the number “31” of the date subdial is usually red on modern Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar models, it is now printed in white. Also, the two numerals of the “31” are now smaller in size and slightly stepped to distinguish them from the adjacent “1”. In addition, John Mayer chose a light blue colour for the week indicator that “could fall back into the dial when simply reading the time but easily be found when looking to

read the week complication,” as he explains.

The laser-microstructured moon phase indicator at 6 o’clock, which is set against an aventurine background, completes the dial’s overall design. For the first time, the “Swiss Made” inscription is printed in white at the bottom of the moon phase subdial rather than on the dial’s outer edge at 6 o’clock – another subtle visual distinction only noticeable on closer look.

The refined dial is framed in 18-carat white gold, a precious material prized by collectors. The case and bracelet are both meticulously finished with the Manufacture’s alternation of satin brushing and polished chamfers. The polished bevels on the bezel and bracelet links enhance the play of light created by the Royal Oak’s multifaceted architecture. Lastly, the white gold frame of the sapphire caseback is engraved with “Royal Oak Quantieme Perpetuel” and “Limited Edition of 200 Pieces.”

Audemars Piguet is committed to evolving its calibres, combining age-old skills with cutting-edge techniques. Following this mindset, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition is the last limited edition equipped with the selfwinding perpetual calendar movement, Calibre 5134, bringing down the curtain on a history that began in 1978.

At the height of the quartz crisis, Audemars Piguet released, against all odds, the thinnest selfwinding perpetual calendar wristwatch of its time equipped with the Calibre 2120/2800. Conceived in secret by three dedicated watchmakers, this groundbreaking perpetual calendar movement achieved its extra-thinness (3.95 mm) by using the ultra-thin Calibre 2120 (2.45 mm thick), launched in 1967, as its base. Over the next 18 years, more than 7,000 movements were produced, cased, and sold, ushering in a new era of growth for Audemars Piguet and paving the way for the revival of other classic complications, including the openworked chronograph (1980), the first selfwinding tourbillon wristwatch (1986), the minute repeater (1992) and the Grande Complication (1996). In 1984, this calibre powered the first Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, Model 5554, soon followed by other references in the collection.

Launched in 2015, the Calibre 5134 adapted the perpetual calendar movement to a larger 41mm case diameter, while maintaining a thin profile with a thickness of 4.3mm. Unveiled on the first Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in 41mm - a model that also featured a new dynamic aesthetic - this movement brought renewed attention to this classic complication which had been in decline since the end of the 20th century. This revival was confirmed in 2017 with the release of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in black ceramic, which caused a sensation. This calibre has powered numerous perpetual calendar wristwatches across the Manufacture’s collection ever since.

Calibre 5134 automatically takes into account the number of days in the month and correctly displays the prevailing date even in leap years. Assuming the watch is kept fully wound, the date will not require manual correction until 2100, at which point it will need to be adjusted to stay in line with the Gregorian calendar. It beats at a frequency of 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations/hour) and has 40 hours of power reserve.

The watch’s sapphire caseback reveals the movement’s refined decorations that include Côtes de Genève, circular graining, circular satin and polished chamfers. The rhodium-toned 22-carat pink gold openworked oscillating weight is further embellished with a stamped motif recalling the Manufacture’s iconic Tapisserie.

Marylebone Smile Clinic, 66 Harley Street, London W1G 7HD

The Marylebone Smile Clinic

Fancy a whiter, brighter, cleaner smile in one pain-free, 60 minute appointment? Then look no further than the Marylebone Smile Clinic.

Chic, clean and welcoming, the clinic's Mini Smile Makeover has been created for people who have minor dental concerns and don't require lengthy treatments like Invisalign, as instead simple tweaks can create a huge difference to their smile.

The brainchild of Dr Sahil Patel, Founder of Marylebone Smile Clinic, and perfect for those looking for a boost to their smile, as well as a thorough check of your teeth and gum health. The first stage of treatment is to send in your photograph to be analysed for suitability. Following this, the clinic prepares a simulation to show you what results you can expect. If it looks good to you, a treatment appointment is arranged.

On the appointment day, after clarifying the details of your mini smile makeover and if you have anything to add since your virtual consultation, the dentist will then conduct a dental health examination, ensuring good gum and tooth condition as well as your annual mouth cancer screen.

After this, a full mouth professional clean is performed with added stain blasting, which as the name implies, is a highpressure cleaning system to remove surface stains. It aims to remove surface stains only, whereas whitening removes ‘internal’ stains. Coffee and smoking are the main culprits of surface stains. Usually, the sand particles abrade the stain, leaving the enamel ready for whitening.

You're now ready for tooth contouring - should you need or wish. This clever reshaping is performed with a series of aluminium oxide impregnated discs. They rotate at high speed and is similar to an extremely small sanding machine. The discs are designed to remove a specific increment of tooth structure before wearing out. This helps to remove the risk of going too far when contouring. As with other forms of contouring, people use contouring on their teeth to remedy any natural features that they find undesirable. It is safe, effective, and straightforward.

Pain-free, the dentist will continuously check with you, going back and forth to ensure you are happy with the procedure, and to optimise the results - ensuring you are always in control. You will have the opportunity to ask questions to the dentist and

assistant as to their opinions on how far to go and they will offer their advice. Whether it's a chip, ridge, or slight misalignment, the slightest change can make a big difference. Occasionally, some decisions relating to tooth size/shape/character are very personal, and therefore, the final decision always lies with you. There is a risk of over contouring, so it is important to see a dentist experienced with contouring like Dr Patel, as unlike with our hair, our teeth do not grow back if we go too far!

During the appointment, a mould of your teeth is also taken to make bespoke whitening trays. It is important to take care during this stage, as the success of whitening is determined by two factors: the fitting of the trays and strict adherence to the instructions. All of the trays are made in the clinic using a qualitycontrolled system developed with over 10 years of experience.

The final stage is to issue the instructions for the whitening system. It is worth noting that it only works on your own natural teeth, not on any dental work that you may have, but the difference it can make is huge. Some sensitivity can be felt but it is usually only minimal. The chemistry behind the whitening is that by using a specific concentration of peroxide, you create a chemical reaction that neutralises the ‘internal’ stain within the tooth. Once neutralised it is removed from the tooth, leaving the tooth structure itself untouched. This makes it very safe as there is no reduction or loss of your natural tooth. A home whitening system is advisable if you want longer lasting and more stable results without needing to frequently visit teeth whitening dentists.

And there you have it, with instant, bespoke results, and two weeks of nighttime whitening, you can see results of your brighter, whiter and straighter smile in just an hour. Tooth contouring can have such an impact on how you feel about your smile too. You don't realise the impact smoothing just one slightly crooked tooth can have to not only your smile, but your whole sense of self confidence.

A worthy treatment that not only lasts, but delivers truly instant results.

Mini Smile Make-Over at The Marylebone Smile Clinic starts from £695.00.

Only Curls Purple Cleanser and Conditioner is the first “curl specific” brightening and toning shampoo and conditioner to launch in the UK.

Curly hair is typically dry. Oils from the scalp take longer to make their way down the spirals, meaning that curls and coils are typically in need of added moisture. Add bleach into the equation and that can result in very dry, brittle hair that is prone to breakage.

THE TINWOOD ESTATE

Enjoy a staycation with a difference, with a visit to the Tinwood Estate. The West Sussex vineyard now offers a series of luxury vineyard lodges that make for the perfect romantic getaway or city-escape.

Beginning life as an iceberg lettuce farm under the care of current owner, Art Tukker's father; Tinwood became a vineyard after Art realised that vines could be the farm's future while studying agriculture and farming at university.

The landscape had evolved so much that mass production farming and supermarkets were taking prevalence, therefore the farm needed to evolve in order to stay profitable. In 2005, Art moved to Marlborough, New Zealand to work in the vineyards, working closely with Mike and Claire Allen, who own Huia Vineyards. There, his knowledge and passion grew, growing and nurturing Sauvignon Blanc and other grape varieties, opening his eyes to the beautiful world of growing vines and producing wine.

Art then made it his mission to transform the land from salad to vines and become a Vineyard owner.

Today, the vines are well established and tours are held every day to help introduce people to the wonder of wine-making. The informative tours last ninety minutes and take you into the vines to discover the story of Tinwood Estate and learn the journey from grape to glass.

Discover how the vines are grown on the flinty, chalky soil and how it is made in the nearby winery, before heading back into the tasting room to enjoy the three English sparkling wines made in Sussex. The laid-back tutored wine tasting takes place while guests enjoy some delicious, paired food plates from the rustic Vineyard Kitchen, available to purchase on arrival.

For those who don't fancy heading home, and ideal for a special occasion, the lavishly appointed on-site lodges boast everything you need for a luxury retreat.

Seasonal Spectacle

Fresh flavours and a host of new menus hit tables across London as the season transitions into Spring. Expect a plethora of light, bright dishes with plenty of colour, accompanied by the rich depth of flavours that the capital's dining scene affords.

BAR DES PRÉS

The first international venture for acclaimed French chef Cyril Lignac, Bar des Prés Mayfair serves delightful Franco/East Asian creations using fine, seasonal ingredients while respecting traditional techniques.

Tucked away in the heart of Mayfair, Bar des Prés Mayfair is spread over two floors with the discreet dining room combining delicate neutral tones, beige marble, taupe leather and wood for a warm welcome.

The signature counter dining bar, has been crafted out of Italian Giallo Real marble providing a stunning focal point, while other standout design features include elegant custom-made furniture and vibrant peacock embroidered upholstery – a signature feature of the Parisian restaurant.

Nestled below the restaurant lies an immersive subterranean lounge. Designed by Dion et Arles the lounge takes its inspiration by the decadent atmosphere of the iconic bar à vins in Saint Germain. With its vibrant Cubic carpet and intimate armchairs the lounge plays host for pre or post dinners, casual suppers or night caps alike.

Taking cues from Cyril’s French background and the inspirations of his new London home, the menu has been paired with a carefully curated wine and cocktail list. The beautiful art deco bar is home to a range of signature cocktails combining favourites from the original Bar des Prés such as the ‘Belle Époque’ made with gin, StGermain, cucumber, lemon and Champagne, as well as new signature drinks including the BDP Mary with vodka, cherry tomato, cranberry and lemon juice and wasabi. Each sip is served in elegant, bespoke handmade glassware, exclusive to Mayfair.

Elsewhere, the cellar houses over 250 bottles that highlight the

variety and wealth of French grapes. From the terroir of Burgundy, to the soils of Bordeaux via the valleys of the Rhône, all are carefully selected to work in perfect harmony with the elegance of the dishes.

Speaking of the menu, highlights include delicate sashimi and sushi; pretty Californian rolls such as Label Rouge salmon, avocado, jalapeño and sriracha; Spicy tuna tartare maki and soft shell crab tempura.

From the raw bar, the yellowtail carpaccio with yuzu passion fruit and avocado is a must, as is the iconic crunchy crab and avocado galette with madras curry from the hot and cold salad section.

Moving on to the hot dishes and the miso caramelised portobello mushroom with hazelnut is both rich and sweet; while the beef gyoza with ginger and soy is a firm favourite.

Other standout dishes from the extensive menu include black cod caramelised with miso and served with baby spinach and sesame; langoustine ravioli; and A4 Kagoshima Wagyu beef Sando with sesame.

The menu displays Cyril Lignac’s signature and unique subtlety throughout, even with refined meat dishes such as the Satay fillet steak. Sides of vanilla mashed potato and pommes dauphines with smoked paprika once again display the French elements.

It would be impossible to create a dessert menu without honouring Cyril Lignac’s original training as a master pastry chef - he has worked alongside Michelin-star chefs such as Nicole Fagegaltie, Alain Passard at Arpège and pastry chef Pierre Hermé - whilst celebrating French classics such as Profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and Chantily cream, Guanaja chocolate soufflé and Pecan praline mille-feuille.

A must visit in the capital.

ORA KING SALMON

with wilted spinach, orange-carrot emulsion and smoked trout roe. Serves 2 people.

Ora King Salmon from New Zealand is my favourite salmon to use because of its consistent marbling and texture. It has a beautiful bright orange colour and a clean salmon flavour that is delicate, yet flavourful.

The technique I like to use to cook this fish is that of a gentle pan sear/roast such that the fish almost confits in an oven gently without forming too much of a crust as you would with a high temperature sear. It lends a very delicate and elegant mouth feel which works well with the dish.

INGREDIENTS

2 Each 6oz Skinless Fillet of Ora King Salmon | 250g Fresh Carrot Juice (pulp-free) | 250g Fresh Orange Juice (pulp-free) | 75g High Quality Butter (cut into small cubes) | 15g Sherry Vinegar | Yuzu/Lime Juice To Taste | 35g Smoked Trout Roe | 20g Clarified Butter | 500g Baby Spinach Leaves

METHOD

Start this dish by making your reduction as it will take the most amount of time. In a sauce pot, combine the orange and carrot juice and reduce rapidly by ⅔ (caution to not use a sauce pot that is too small if you are utilizing an open flame stove, as the fire coming up the sides of the pot will inevitably caramelize and eventually burn the

juice on the sides of the pot as it reduces). Once the sauce has been reduced, utilising a whisk, slowly begin adding your butter to create an emulsion. It is important that the butter is emulsified slowly to ensure that the sauce doesn’t “break” and remains a tight emulsion. Once all of the butter has been incorporated, season with sherry vinegar, yuzu or lime juice and salt to taste. Set aside in a warm place until ready to use, ideally with a lid/plastic wrap to cover the vessel.

For the spinach: melt the clarified butter in a pan and bring to a medium temperature. Add the spinach and quickly toss to wilt quickly. You are looking to just wilt the spinach. Once the spinach has wilted, place onto a drain pan/colander and allow to come to room temperature. Once the spinach is cool enough to touch, gently wring through a clean kitchen towel to remove excess water from the spinach (this is an important step that will ensure the finished dish and sauce doesn’t become diluted with the water of the spinach). Place the spinach onto a cutting board and put a sharp knife through the spinach to cut into smaller pieces. Reserve until ready to use.

For the salmon: ensure that the salmon is as dry as possible by patting dry with a paper towel. Season evenly with salt. Add cooking oil to your pan (enough to barely cover the bottom of the pan) and bring up to a medium heat - caution not to get the pan too hot as we’re going for a gentle cook. Add the salmon to the pan and gently baste some of the hot oil over the top of the fish a couple of times with a spoon. Place the pan in a 170°C oven and allow to gently cook untouched. Time will vary depending on your oven but check after about 3 minutes and baste again. Place back in the oven for another 3 minutes, or until desired cook temperature has been reached.

I recommend cooking the fish to medium, where the texture of the fish is just starting to set in the centre, but is still super juicy.

This is the point at which you need to gently reheat your spinach and get ready to serve. Add a small amount of clarified butter to a pan and reheat the spinach. Verify the seasoning and place in the centre of a hot bowl.

Add the smoked trout roe to the warm sauce and spoon around the spinach in the bowl.

Once your preferred temperature on the fish has been reached, remove the pan from the oven and place the salmon on a paper towel to dab and remove all excess fat. Place on top of the spinach and serve to your guest(s) or enjoy yourself for a quick and easy meal.

SUSTAINABILITY EARTH DAY

Earth Day has evolved since its conception in 1970 into the largest civic event on Earth, activating billions across 192 countries to safeguard our planet and fight for a brighter future. In honour of Earth Day, Victoria Henson, director of The Champagne Bureau UK answers questions relating to Champagne and sustainability, as well as the future of this world-famous region, home of the pinnacle of sparkling wine. The Champagne Bureau UK is appointed by the Comité Champagne, the trade association representing all houses and growers in the region.

What are the sustainable initiatives the Champagne region has undertaken to date?

Champagne has been at the forefront of sustainable development in the wine industry since the 1980s, when the Comité Champagne began work on wastewater treatment,

biological control in the vines and vineyard zoning. In 2003, Champagne was the first winegrowing region in the world to carry out a carbon footprint assessment. Today, it is accelerating the implementation of its carbon plan to support the sector towards net-zero carbon by 2050. It is doing so by significantly reducing its emissions (with a target of 75% reduction in 2050), developing carbon sinks and by offsetting unavoidable emissions. To date, results include 100% treatment of wine effluents and more than 90% of industrial waste, a 20% reduction in the carbon footprint per bottle since 2003 and 69% of the vineyard surfaces have received environmental certification (with a target of 100% certified by 2030). This plan must also preserve the distinctiveness and excellence of Champagne wine, reinforcing the ambitions of the region - improving the resilience of the sector, its workforce and the attractiveness of the region.

CHAMPAGNE

How is the Champagne region addressing the conversation surrounding climate change?

Climate change is a major challenge globally. Combating it is a region-wide commitment, and adapting to new conditions is a key priority. To ensure progress in the most effective way while meeting the requirements of the agroecological transition, Champagne is experimenting with new grape varietals, researching new techniques to combat the various forms of decline in the vineyard, defining new soil maintenance protocols, and implementing new oenological strategies, as well as implementing a carbon plan to support the sector towards net-zero carbon by 2050. Tools include:

• Construction of an “insect-proof” greenhouse designed to secure the production of vine plants in north-eastern France.

• An expanded research, development and innovation centre at the future Maison de la Champagne in Epernay. This centre will reinforce the industry’s initiatives for quality and sustainable development, with state-of-the-art equipment.

• The reserve level has been raised from 8,000 kg/ha to 10,000 kg/ha. A crucial tool for regulating Champagne production, the reserve enables a portion of the wines produced during good harvests, to be kept for future use in any deficit years.

The future and one of Champagne’s key strengths relies on collective efforts between houses and growers, as well as continual research, and the meeting of laid out targets.

What impact does climate change have on the Champagne market for the future?

With all the initiatives currently being undertaken, the Champagne region remains optimistic for the future. There is a growing appetite for sparkling wine, and as Champagne only comes from Champagne, it remains an undisputed benchmark for consumers who associate it with unique moments and special occasions. According to an IPSOS study in 2023, Champagne remains the ultimate drink that embodies luxury, prestige and elegance.

Moreover, Champagne exports now account for almost 60% of total sales (171.7 million bottles), compared to 45% ten years ago. While 80% of Champagne is still sold in 8 countries, new markets such as Canada, South Africa and South Korea are showing growing interest in Champagne and have recorded remarkable growth in recent years.

It is also interesting to see that consumers are now looking for greater diversity in blends and dosage. Demand for rosé Champagne abroad has increased 5-fold in 20 years. Low dosage wines (extra brut and zero dosage) are also on the rise, with volumes increasing almost 70-fold in the space of 20 years. With younger generations drinking less but opting for quality over quantity, this also presents another big opportunity for Champagne.

Having created a warm and welcoming environment, Vivat Bacchus takes pride in serving up rustic South-African inspired food by blending seasonal ingredients from sustainable suppliers and the menus take inspiration from the country’s rich and diverse history by embracing bold flavours and using only the best of rare breed meats.

Snacks of beef biltong and droewörs (dry Sausage) are cured to traditional South African recipes and the starters list includes crocodile goujons with peri peri aioli in amongst Cape Malay prawns; burrata with confit red grapes and macadamia nut pesto; and mushroom and beetroot frikkadel doused in chakalaka - a staple hailing from Johannesburg made up of beans, fresh veggies, onions, peppers, and tomatoes with a spicy twist. Main events consist of a 200g ostrich fillet steak - a succulent, low fat meat incredibly popular in South Africa - and Karoo style lamb saddle with spring greens. Sirloin, t- bone, and Iberico pork chop are available hot from the braai (grill) and no South African menu would be complete without an impressive ribeye

on the bone to share between two people (700g) or three (1kg). Regarded as a restaurant staple and perfect for marinading, dipping, or drizzling, monkey gland sauce (devoid of monkeys or glands), is a sweet, tangy sauce which is a perfect accompaniment to your meal.

Round off your meal with a delicious malva pudding. South Africa’s answer to sticky toffee pudding, which is a caramelised, moist, and spongy dessert bursting with apricot flavour and comes drenched in creamy custard.

Both restaurants have a walk-in cheese room, with over 40 artisan cheeses to choose from. Guests can book the ‘Cheese Room Experience’ and sample award-winning British artisan cheeses from sustainable supplier ‘cheesegeek’ who help you discover the very finest, often hard to come by seasonal British cheeses, expertly selected, sourced directly, and ripened to perfection. The resident cheese expert will help you decide the content of your cheeseboard.

Sustainability is an integral part of Vivat Bacchus’ ethos in relation to both wine and food. Whilst they champion the key players in South African winemaking, many of their wines are also from small, independent winemakers that share the same passion for a better future and produce their wine accordingly. Both restaurants have their own walk-in wine cellars, and guests are invited to take a tour of the cellar and pick out a bottle that they may not find on the list.

Audi's Q8 Sportback 55 e-tron boasts an output of 408hp - in boost mode - and 664Nm of torque, providing enough pull and power to accelerate from standing to sixty-two miles per hour in 5.6 seconds and on to a governed top speed of 124mph. For those still concerned about range, you shouldn't need to worry here as a range of 313 miles should allow you to travel from London to Birmingham and back on a single charge and you can rest easy knowing that the navigation system has your back for anything longer.

At a high-power charging station (HPC), the Audi Q8 55 e-tron reaches a maximum charging power of 170 kW meaning the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent during a charging stop of around 31 minutes perfect for a quick toilet and coffee stop. In ten minutes at an HPC charging station, you can recharge to a range of 76 miles. What’s more, this car features an impressive charging curve which runs at a high level for a very long time, allowing the battery to rapidly recharge to long ranges. This makes for a car that is highly suitable for long-distance driving.

In the Q8 Sportback e-tron, the Plug & Charge function comes as standard whereby the vehicle automatically authorizes and activates the station when the charging cable is plugged in at compatible charging stations with billing also completed automatically, reducing the time you spend setting up a charge even further.

The new Audi charging service - which has replaced the existing e-tron Charging Service - provides convenient access to charging points throughout Europe with around 400,000 public charging points across 29 countries.

The e-tron route planner provides you with reliable support in finding charging points along the route. For an accurate calculation of the current range, the algorithm supplements recent consumption data with additional data from the e-tron route planner. This means the system considers the weather, traffic conditions, and topography along the planned route, whilst also providing preference to HPC stations to minimize your charging times.

AUDI Q8 SPORTBACK E-TRON

Driving is made easy and comfortable thanks to the combination of dual axle motors and air suspension as standard. Offering a smooth, constant power delivery, the modified engine concept generates a stronger magnetic field, increasing torque, while the process becomes even more efficient when there is no flow of current as there is no electrical drag loss. If the generated torque is not expended, the electric motor requires less current to build again, reducing consumption and increasing range.

The air suspension and controlled damping system allows the car to configure to different road conditions, with the ride height able to adapt by a total of 76mm depending on the driving situation. The air suspension has also been tuned for optimized lateral dynamics providing an athletic agility on the road.

Luxurious comfort is just as important for the Q8 Sportback

e-tron as its performance and this car has it in abundance. Giving plenty of space throughout for driver, passengers and luggage, you can enjoy the journey, regardless of length, without feeling like you need to stretch your legs. And with the optional technology pack and technology pack pro, you can indulge in some high quality audio courtesy of a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, fourzone climate control complete with an air quality package which features an ionizer and adjustable fragrancing to create the perfect space for your travels.

A three-stage ventilation system makes for highly comfortable seating, ideal when it's hot outside and with their numerous seat and backrest adjustment options, the individual contour seats are the apex of the program, including a massage function on request - in which ten pneumatic cushions relax your back muscles in seven

Also part of the pack is the panoramic glass roof, which opens and closes electrically, makes the interior even brighter, enhancing its light and spacious appearance and integrated light-tight sunblinds are just as convenient to operate to block out the sun should you prefer. When open, the two-part panorama glass roof improves the interior climate through efficient ventilation and an integrated wind deflector reduces wind noise.

All of the Q8 e-tron versions include decorative inlays in a choice of open-pore wood veneers, such as grained ash, sycamore wood or aluminum and for the first time with new additions to the range including light brown walnut wood and a sustainable technical fabric made from recycled PET bottles, plus the Audi

Sport stitching package in red adds high-end accents to the sports seats, steering wheel, knee pad, and door armrests with coloured stitching. Edged in red, the seat belts are another interior highlight and the interior is rounded off with optional stainless steel pedals.

Every Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron delivered to customers in the UK will be a certified, net carbon-neutral car. And from as early as 2025, all Audi plants will operate with net zero emissions - with Brussels, Győr, and Böllinger Höfe already achieving that status.

Continuing to push design, manufacture and performance, Audi are setting the standard on green automotive production. You just have to give the new Q8 e-tron a try in any of its various guises to see just what it means for the manufacturer to deliver quality while reducing the environmental impact. FOUR SEATER FASTBACK

Jaguar's iconic E-Type needs no introduction. Regularly coined as the world's most beautiful car - to this day - there were a number of releases across three series that incorporated a fastback coupé, roadster, and 2+2 coupé. First released in Series 1 guise in 1966 following the success of the fastback and roadster, the 2+2 E-Type Coupé boasted a longer wheelbase to accommodate two extra

passengers in the rear.

The Series 2 variant introduced a number of design changes, most noticeably, the absence of the glass headlight covers. Other features welcomed with the Series 2 were a wrap-around rear bumper, larger front indicators, tail lights re-positioned below the bumpers, an enlarged grille and twin electric fans to aid with cooling. Air conditioning and power steering also became available as factory options.

This right-hand drive example from 1968 is an early car from the Series 2 production which ran from '68 to '71. It is a matching numbers car complete with stunning wire wheels finished in its original colour combination of British Racing Green coachwork with contrasting cinnamon leather interior.

As with all Jaguar E-Types, this is a truly stunning car that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. What's more, with the added benefit of the 2+2 layout, you can enjoy the car with not one, but up to three people at the same time.

LONDON’S NEIGHBOURHOODS WITH THE STRONGEST STAYING POWER

with Robin Howeson, Head of Savills Auctions

From an outsider’s perspective, London’s geography can be overwhelming – and an area’s distinguishing feature may seem to be nothing more than the colour of its tube line. But look further and you’ll find a series of neighbourhoods and villages, each with an individual sense of community and identity.

Liza-Jane Kelly, head of Savills London residential business details how many buyers, once they’ve found a neighbourhood that suits them, often choose to stay within the same area, upsizing, or downsizing as their property needs change.

“Analysis of Savills sales across 2023, found that over four in every ten home movers across prime London were moving within the same local area. This figure rose to over three-quarters in some postcodes, with neighbourhoods in East and North London leading the way for their staying power.”

Which neighbourhoods have the strongest staying power?

Canary Wharf

“Canary Wharf, an area of the city that has undergone a huge amount of regeneration in recent years, is now a place that people want to live beyond the convenience it provides for work. With more than 300 shops, new restaurants, bars and activities to do, Canary Wharf has a real buzz about it seven days a week, so much so that we’ve seen buyers moving within this urban neighbourhood on an increasing basis. In fact, last year we saw 76% of domestic prime buyers choose to move within the area as their property needs changed. “Canary Wharf particularly appeals to younger buyers with around two-thirds of prime buyers aged below 39, thanks to the relative value on offer and excellent connectivity to the city. In the prime market, the average price per square foot for second-hand properties in Canary Wharf is £660, compared to an average of £900 in North & East London, making it a popular choice for those looking to move without losing an easy commute.”

Wapping

“Wapping is another area of the city that continues to see buyers upsize and downsize within the locale as their property needs adapt with the ebb and flow of life. This quiet and peaceful place, famed for its quaint cobbled streets, ranked second for its staying power with 67% of buyers moving from within the area.

“A lot of the demand here comes from couples and young corporate professionals who may have once rented in the area and then opted to buy and then upsize again with the vicinity as their families grow. In the prime market, second-hand properties in Wapping cost an average of £850 per square foot.”

Wimbledon

“Ranked third for its staying power is Wimbledon, with 62% of residents opting to move within the neighbourhood. Home to a large amount of green space, popular shops, independent cafes and pubs, this particular locale appeals to a vast number of buyer profiles, from growing families, downsizers and empty nesters. There’s a close-knit village feel that gives residents a taste of the country while being conveniently located for all that the capital has to offer.

“There’s also a surprising variety of property in Wimbledon, catering for buyers right throughout their property journey. There are contemporary flats, maisonettes and smaller Victorian terraced homes, ideal for first-time buyers and second steppers, while the larger townhouses and detached homes, many of which have private gardens, are suited towards families. In short, there’s something to suit every life stage, accommodating locals as they move through each life stage.”

“Whether it’s the urban feel of East London, the leafy pastures of south west, or the cosmopolitan feel of prime central London, what sings true of London as a whole is that it’s a place where people want to live, work and grow while benefitting from continuity and community from the areas that they choose to live in.”

After such a gloomy start to the year, it finally feels like we can throw open the windows and embrace brighter days. With this sense of renewal and invigoration, its the perfect time to explore and get excited by the brand new collections unveiled at London Design Week. Its always a joy to visit and this year the exhibitors provided fascinating glimpses into their design processes as well as introducing their new collections. The Spring/Summer 2024 offerings focus on craftsmanship and a timeless aesthetic with quite the smattering of colour for good measure. It certainly seems like a revival of 1980s chintz has finally landed and florals, maximalism and zingy pastels are the key look du-jour. In my designs this year I’ll be focussing on organic texture combined with some wild prints for an energising yet easy-to-live-with look. Here’s a few notable new collections that have caught my eye at LDW24.

The much-anticipated rug range by Jan Erika for Jacaranda Carpets is probably my favourite new collection, and will certainly play a large part in future designs. Transporting us to the Balearics, the range consists of four Mallorcan landscape-inspired designs. Jan Erika, as well as a talented artist, is also a concert cellist and her work exudes the movement of music. From coastal caves to verdant greenery, the organic, abstract motifs provide a symphonic starting point to any interior scheme. From a designer’s perspective the bespoke sizing and colour tailoring is an absolute bonus. One can always rely on Designers Guild to bring energy and life to an interior with their effervescent colours and joyful prints. This season is no exception and their Spring/Summer accessories ranges are sure to delight. Florals reign in soft pastels and a strong theme of cobalt blue. A few DG cushions and a throw can work wonders to lift a room out of hibernation. I have always been an advocate for having two sets of curtains, one for Autumn/Winter and one for Spring/ Summer. The Victorians did it and I think we should learn from their example. At this time of the year, replacing heavy drapes for light-diffusing linens, such as Designers Guild ‘Shiwa’ extra width sheer will allow the sunlight to penetrate into your home bringing good vibes with it!

For a rich aesthetic, the new Byzance collection by Osborne and Little offers stunning, intricate designs inspired by decorative cultural arts with motifs from Indian and Arabic origins. For use as curtains or upholstery, the embroidered Samode design really

caught my eye and would combine beautifully with an oak floor and this year’s must-have; venetian plastered walls.

Taking inspiration from the Far East, Soliel Levant by Pierre Frey is another beautifully curated collection of papers and fabrics utilising rich colours and textures. These require layer upon layer of sumptuous pattern mixing to create a timeless, evolved aesthetic.

Lighting is finally being recognised for the importance it plays in bringing an interior scheme to life, highlighting texture, architectural features and creating the right mood. Sculptural, decorative pieces are taking centre stage this year and one I can’t wait to specify is the Alabaster Pendant Cluster by TigerMoth Lighting. Highlighting the beautiful, mottled marble texture when illuminated, the light can be configured to suit even the tallest of spaces.

Reminiscent of the much-coveted and instagrammed Magari wall light by Blueprint Lighting, the new Vincent wall light by Soho Home is a fabulous new addition to their lighting range and at half the price. With a brushed brass articulating arm, it can be directed where the light is needed and is perfect in a kitchen to

Known for her colourful and playful storytelling in her interiors, her latest collaboration with G.P & J Baker is a triumph of maximalistic prints and stripes. Combining Kit’s eclectic style and Baker’s heritage, the range of papers and fabrics are both fun yet sophisticated. More embroidered designs feature, notably ‘Spin Off,’ and a beautiful reimagining of one of Kit’s most iconic designs, ’Tall Trees.’ Check out the new Delft Blue colourway, named after the pottery and one I will be out certainly be using in bedroom interior schemes this year.

I hope these whet the appetite for refreshing your home this Spring and, whilst I dreaded the day the 1980s would be back on trend, I am actually very much enjoying the energy and femininity of the look. At least our interiors can lift our spirits when the weather is letting the side down.
