SEQUENTIAL FLYBACK PLATINUM

In 2022, MB&F unveiled its Legacy Machine Sequential EVO, a twin chronograph that opened up a world of timing possibilities. This ground-breaking chronograph redefined the chronograph as it was known, winning the hearts of collectors and the coveted GPHG ‘Aiguille d’Or’ award the same year.

Conceived by Stephen McDonnell, one of the original MB&F Friends and the mastermind behind the 2015 LM Perpetual, the LM Sequential EVO was one of those timepieces that was so profoundly useful that it made you wonder why no one had thought of it before. Multiple timing modes allowed you to time everything from two athletes at the same time to consecutive lap times around a track, and even two different dishes in the oven, to name a few of its extremely practical applications.

However, if the LM Sequential EVO wasn’t mind-blowing enough, there was another feature that Stephen and MB&F were keen to include: the flyback function. Stephen’s original prototype movement was actually designed with a flyback system on the left-hand chronograph and provisions for it were built into the LM Sequential EVO. But it was extremely complicated to perfect with the watch taking nine months of prototyping, four of which were dedicated to the flyback function alone. Add to this six different re-designs, and all the work and components that went with them, and McDonnell felt that it would be unwise - reckless even - to release the watch with a flyback when there were so many unproven elements in play.

The dream was there right from the very beginning, and everything was designed to be able to incorporate it at a later date. The chronographs could have been conceived in several different ways, but only one of these configurations would allow the inclusion of a flyback, changing the fundamental way the chronographs were designed.

The internal jewelling of the vertical clutches is the key to the whole Sequential chronograph, and the new flyback system also requires jewelling, without which it would not work. The system is very subtle, and a great deal of work went into reducing all the friction to a minimum so that the flyback did not cause the return-to-zero to block. To achieve this, McDonnell incorporated a special jewelled roller into the flyback mechanism. Such a component is unavailable directly from any supplier of jewels, so for the first prototype, McDonnell made the jewel himself in order to prove the concept of this ground-breaking mechanism (one of five patented elements).

mbandf.com

Two years of secret-keeping and testing were required so that the system would be robust enough in the long term, and now the LM Sequential Flyback Platinum is ready.

This incredible timepiece features the same layout as the LM Sequential EVO with two chronograph displays. One has its seconds display at 9 o’clock and minutes display at 11 o’clock. The other has its seconds display at 3 o’clock and minutes display at 1 o’clock. Each of these chronographs can be started, stopped, and reset completely independently of the other, using the start/stop and reset pushers on their respective sides of the case. With the new flyback function, the reset pushers also trigger the flyback if the corresponding chronograph is running. These pushers make up the four chronograph pushers you would usually associate with having two chronograph mechanisms in one watch.

However, there is a fifth pusher, called the Twinverter, located at the 9 o’clock position. This “magic button” as Stephen likes to call it, is the secret that elevates the functionality of the LM Sequential timepieces beyond any existing chronograph wristwatch. It controls both chronograph systems, operating as a binary switch that inverts the current start/stop status of each chronograph. This means that if both chronographs are stopped, pressing the Twinverter causes both of them to start simultaneously. If they are both running, the Twinverter makes them stop. And, if one is running and the other is stopped, the Twinverter stops the one that is running and starts the one that is stopped.

In terms of practical applications, these functions allow the chronograph to be highly useful in numerous situations.

Imagine the preparation of a meal, where different things need to be cooked for different periods of time, at different points in time. You would operate the two chronographs via their respective pushers - for instance, starting one when you put your pasta into boiling water and starting the other when the vegetables go in the oven. In fact, this application comes in handy in all areas of personal productivity. At the gym, for example, when trying to optimize your physical workout routine, one chronograph can be set to time your entire session whilst the second is used to record your time at each station, or the downtime in between. In this example, the new flyback function can come in handy to swiftly reset and restart the timing sequence with a single press on the reset button, combining the three steps - stop, reset to zero, and re-start - in one.

YOUR WATCH

The simultaneous or split-second mode can be used in a race involving two competitors, starting simultaneously. The Twinverter allows the wearer to start both chronographs at exactly the same time, but the different end times can be easily recorded by pressing each chronograph’s individual start/ stop pusher. To note, the durations of the events can exceed 60 seconds, which is the limit for the vast majority of split-second chronographs on the market. In this mode, you can also use the new flyback function if you want to quickly restart timing. In the work environment, you might want to know how much time you spend on two separate projects as you switch between them throughout the day, this where cumulative mode shines. By starting one chronograph when you begin working on one task, and then using the Twinverter when you shift focus to the

second task (switching again when you go back to the first), you can easily track the amount of time you cumulatively spent on each task. Another example of this usage is the timing of a chess match.

Sequential mode (or lap-timer mode) is ideal for those timing competitive sports. This mode can be used to measure individual lap times. Starting one chronograph at the beginning of an event and using the Twinverter upon the completion of a lap instantly launches the second chronograph in order to time the next lap, while the first chronograph is stopped, allowing ample time for the timing result to be noted down. The stopped chronograph can then be reset to zero, ready to be relaunched with the Twinverter for the following lap. Thanks to its minutes’ totalisers, the LM Sequential can be used effectively in sporting

mbandf.com MB&F 16

events with average lap times of over a minute (which includes the vast majority of motor sports).

Lastly, the flyback which was originally developed in the 1930s for airplane pilots, to allow accurate timing of flight paths from waypoint to waypoint. It was found that the time to stop, reset, and restart a chronograph took so long that errors in navigation would result, which would be compounded as these accumulated over the course of a journey with multiple legs. The flyback allowed this to be done simultaneously: stop, reset and restart in a single press on the reset pusher. Combining the new flyback function with the other timing modes of the Sequential calibre offers even more functionality. For example, a pilot can keep track of overall flight time on one chronograph, while using the other chronograph to accurately time each leg with the flyback function.

The design of the LM Sequential is completely unique. It encompasses two independent chronographs within a single movement, both of which are linked to a common escapement

and oscillator. The energy losses associated with a conventional chronograph are well known, so imagine what can happen with two chronographs in a single movement. The losses would be doubled, resulting in unacceptably poor performance. All this functionality within a single watch required the invention of a fundamentally new type of chronograph system, one which would not be susceptible to any sort of energy losses.

This is exactly what the LM Sequential does, thanks to the use of its innovative internally-jewelled vertical clutches and their associated control system. The new flyback mechanisms also incorporate jewelled rollers. Thanks to these patented solutions, the Sequential calibre outperforms conventional chronographs in terms of energy efficiency and precision.

It truly is an horological marvel that is highly complex, beautiful and immensely functional in equal measure. A timepiece not just for collectors, this is an incredible useful tool that has been designed and crafted to be used as such.

Tribute

To BRUTALISM

Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet has unveiled the stunning [RE]Master02 Selfwinding. A tribute to an asymmetrical watch created by the Manufacture back in 1960 (Model 5159BA) and following in the footsteps of [RE] Master01 - launched in 2020 to reinterpret a chronograph from 1943 - this new limited edition of 250 pieces features an asymmetrical 41mm rectangular case in the new 18-carat sand gold alloy, whose tone oscillates between white and pink gold. [RE]Master02 is enriched by a “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” parted dial, divided into twelve different triangles decorated with a linear satin finish that create unique effects of light and texture when assembled. Combining vintage aesthetic with cutting-edge performance, this new reference is equipped with the Calibre 7129, an hour and minute movement. With this new model, [RE]Master establishes itself as a collection in its own right, continuing to offer contemporary interpretations of timepieces that defined their era.

Since 1875, Audemars Piguet has followed its own path, combining watchmaking tradition with cutting-edge technology and pioneering new materials and designs. Over the years, the Manufacture has used a wide variety of materials, colours and case forms, ranging from traditional geometries such as the circle, square and rectangle, to more unexpected trapezoidal or octagonal shapes. This boundless creativity reflects the free spirit that Audemars Piguet has preserved and nurtured for generations.

Like the remastering of music recordings, the [RE]Master collection, launched in 2020, creatively reinterprets the aesthetic codes of some of the Manufacture’s rarest timepieces, representative of their respective eras.

In the 1960s, Audemars Piguet produced several models inspired by the Brutalist current, with angular geometric shapes devoid of ornamentation. It was also the golden age of asymmetrical watches for the Manufacture, with more than 30 models created between 1959 and 1963, most of which were produced in less than ten pieces. The 5159BA Model, launched in 1960 and produced in just seven units, one of which is on display today at the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet, belongs

to this generation of watches, with its asymmetrical 27.5mm rectangular case in 18-carat yellow gold and a dial that breaks with the codes of classic watchmaking.

[RE]Master02 features a case crafted in sand gold, a new 18-carat gold alloy whose shades vary between white and pink gold depending on the light and the movement of the wrist. Launched earlier this year on a Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked reference, this new material, which takes its name from sand dunes, is composed of gold, copper and palladium for a warm appearance.

The asymmetrical case creates a strong visual impact with its many facets. While its rectangular shape is accentuated by sharp corners and extended by integrated lugs, the case also follows the slope of the sapphire crystal at 3 o’clock. Its surface has been entirely brushed with a satin finish for a matt, “raw” look that contrasts with the polished contours of the dial. The satin finish of the sand gold required skill and dexterity to ensure that the geometric edges and corners of the case retained their sharpness.

The caseback, also crafted in sand gold, is engraved with “Limited Edition” and harmoniously echoes the dedicated asymmetrical oscillating weight in matching tones.

The dial of [RE]Master02 combines different geometric forms such as the rectangle and the triangle. The “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial, obtained by Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD), is made up of twelve triangles of different sizes and shapes, separated by galvanised sand-gold-toned partitions that meet at the centre. Each individually machined brass triangle is given a linear satin finish before being placed on a brass plate using minuscule legs. Once meticulously assembled by skilled craftspeople, all the parts create a visual effect that plays with the light and brings the dial to life.

To sit in harmony with the case and the diagonal lines of the dial, the hour and minute hands are crafted in 18-carat sand gold, as is the “Audemars Piguet” signature at 3 o’clock, obtained by galvanic growth. Both the hour-makers and the date indication have been omitted to give full expression to the geometric shapes and linear satin finish. Reading the time is facilitated by the diagonals that cross the dial.

AUDEMARS PIGUET

“Between 1959 and 1963, Audemars Piguet created more than 30 asymmetrical models, most of which were produced in less than 10 pieces. [RE]Master02 is a fantastic opportunity to revive this forgotten golden age.”
Sébastian Vivas, Heritage and Museum Director, Audemars Piguet

The asymmetry of the case is accentuated by the sapphire crystal, which has a 15.8° bevel for greater visual impact. Two years of research and development went into the design of this bevelled crystal to guarantee water-resistance and meet Audemars Piguet’s quality requirements.

For aesthetic coherence, [RE]Master02 is mounted on an alligator leather strap in contrasting shades of blue that match the tone of the dial. Its elegant matt finish enhances the play of light.

[RE]Master02 houses the Calibre 7129, an extra-thin hour and minute movement without date indication that is based on the Calibre 7121, launched in 2022 on Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin models. This 2.8 mm-thick movement produces more energy thanks to its new construction and its larger barrel, enabling the mechanism to achieve greater precision over a longer period of time. The oscillating weight, mounted on ball bearings, is equipped with two reversers to ensure bidirectional winding. In addition, inertia blocks have been inserted into the thickness of the balance wheel to prevent aerodynamic friction from slowing it down.

In keeping with the Haute Horlogerie tradition, the Calibre 7129 features refined decorations such as Côtes de Genève, circular satin, snailing, sunray brushing, circular graining and polished angles, all of which can be admired through the sapphire caseback. The latter also reveals the dedicated 22-carat gold oscillating weight, whose sand gold tone subtly echoes the colour of the case.

The Return of the Chemin des Tourelles: A Transparent Vision of Time

Last year, Tissot introduced subtle enhancements and a new automatic movement to the classic Chemin des Tourelles collection. This year, the collection expands further with three skeleton versions of this enduring favourite.

Available in a 39mm case, these skeleton watches offer a range of dial and strap options, appealing to both seasoned horological connoisseurs and newcomers alike. The Chemin des Tourelles Skeleton series keeps its traditional design, while offering a window into the watch that invites wearers to observe the precise detailing into the heart of the timekeeper.

The watch features a case with a polished and vertically brushed finish, topped with a domed sapphire crystal. The hours and minutes dauphine hands, both sandblasted and polished, along with slimline, gently faceted hour markers, are crafted to contribute to the watch’s visual allure. The skeleton collection provides a unique fit for every preference.

The blue variant, a classic with a twist, features a dial adorned with Clous de Paris patterns and styled with Roman numeral indices, paired with a sophisticated five-link bracelet. This model seamlessly combines traditional elegance with contemporary style elements.

The sleek and shadowed variant, a full black PVD version presents a sunray dial, smoked glass to ensure transparency with a bit of shadow, and simple baton indices with nickled black dots in between, using the same material as the baton indices. This model’s allure is further enhanced by a black grained leather strap, offering a stark, contemporary look that stands out for its simple yet powerful aesthetic.

Finally, the ivory model exudes a subtle charm with a sunray ivory-coloured dial, complemented by yellow gold PVD baton indices and ivory dots in between. Encased in a stainless-steel case, it is worn on a high-quality patina khaki grained leather strap, bringing a mix of traditional vibes with a fresh perspective.

X T IMEX THE JAMES BRAND

The James Brand and Timex have announced their latest collaboration with the Timex × James Brand Titanium GMT watch. Envisioned by renowned Italian watchmaker and Timex Chief Creative Director, Giorgio Galli and designed by the team at The James Brand, the all-new co-branded GMT watch combines the analogue soul of the classic field watch with the formal, sophisticated aesthetic of an heirloom timepiece.

True to The James Brand’s unique design aesthetic, the GMT is crafted into a sleek 41mm case rendered in hardwearing titanium for durability while remaining lightweight and comfortable. Reinforcing the case’s durability is a screw-down crown that effectively keeps dirt, dust, and moisture out. Flip the watch over to see it’s fortified with a screw-down caseback engraved with the edition number, as well as a TJB branded sapphire crystal exhibition window to reveal the intricate 24-jewel automatic movement.

POLARIS

Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to enrich the Polaris collection as the Maison’s signature Geographic travel time complication is reinterpreted for the elegant, sporty collection. The existing Polaris Date and Polaris Perpetual Calendar also receive new dial colours.

When Jaeger-LeCoultre revived the historic Polaris name in 2018, it redefined the modern sporty-elegant watch with an entirely new line of timepieces conceived for everyday adventures. Deftly balancing the practical functions and robust capabilities of a sports watch with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s distinctively elegant and timeless aesthetic, the Polaris collection pays direct homage to the

Maison’s eponymous diving watches of the 1960s.

With their high-performing calibres and distinctive style, the watches of the Polaris collection capture the sporting spirit of their predecessors, reinterpreting their vintage appeal in elegant and confidently contemporary style to create highly versatile, modern classics.

The Polaris collection’s strong design codes are anchored in cases distinguished by off-centred crowns, taut lines, glassbox crystals, narrow bezels and a dynamic mix of brushed and polished surfaces. The distinctive dial architecture is complemented by skeletonised hands, assertively designed

JAEGER-LECOULTRE

Arabic numerals and elongated trapezoid indexes. All elements are coated in SuperLuminova for optimum legibility in low light conditions. Complex in construction, the Polaris dial is enhanced by gradient colour and the use of different decorative finishesopaline, graining, sunray-brushing and snailing, according to the model - beneath a coating of rich and shiny lacquer. The colour is graduated from light to dark, adding great visual depth and dynamism to the dials.

Lacquering is a lengthy and exacting process, with each layer of coating being manually applied. It begins with the application of up to four layers of colour, then one or two layers of black, to create the gradient. The challenge lies in perfectly controlling both the shade and the gradient, so that the dial sections match perfectly. This is followed by 30 coats of translucent lacquer, to add depth and richness. The process is completed by polishing the components to a perfect finish.

Continuing the tradition of adding useful auxiliary functions to the Polaris collection, the Manufacture has introduced the Polaris Geographic. La Grande Maison’s unique interpretation of the travel watch, the Geographic has become a signature complication of the Manufacture.

Rather than indicating only the hour of a second time zone, the Geographic complication also provides a 24-hour Night and Day indicator and, in an aperture at the bottom of the dial, displays the name of a city relating to each of the 24 major time zones, with those that observe daylight savings clearly marked. This gives travellers the option of setting the second time according

to location (by turning the crown at 10 o’clock), rather than needing to calculate the time difference; when a city is chosen, the corresponding time is automatically displayed. Thanks to a stop-seconds feature, this second time zone is accurate to the hour, minute and second.

The lacquer dial features a new colour - ocean-grey. Evocative with an air of mystery, calling to mind the colour of the sea on a cloudy day, it is applied in a double gradient finish that adds visual depth and dynamism, and is coated with 35 layers of lacquer. The displays are arranged in a pleasingly asymmetric layout, with the second time zone in a sub-dial at 6 o’clock and the power reserve indicator in the upper left sector of the dial. Orange accents draw the eye to key information points, contrasting with the ocean-grey and adding a lively touch to the overall composition.

The sapphire crystal case-back reveals the finely finished automatic movement, Calibre 939. A quintessential example of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s approach to watchmaking, which combines mechanical elegance with high performance, it offers a power reserve of 70 hours. Like all of the Maison’s calibres, the movement was designed, produced, finished and assembled within its own Manufacture in Switzerland’s Vallée de Joux.

Underlining the versatility of this confident and refined expression of a highly useful complication, the new Polaris Geographic is presented with an interchangeable folding buckle and a pair of interchangeable straps - textured black rubber and blue-grey canvas - that enable a change in style and attitude in a matter of moments.

The Polaris collection is further enriched as two models are also offered with new dial colours - created with the Polaris collection specifically in mind. The Polaris Date is presented with a gradient ocean-grey dial that elevates the confident modernity of its design to a new level and the Polaris Perpetual Calendar is offered in pink gold with an elegant and visually striking gradient green dial that perfectly complements the richness and warmth of the case metal. Both dials feature the Polaris signatures of three different surface textures, and double-gradient colour finished with 35 layers of lacquer to create visual richness and depth. Subtle orange highlights add a note of sporty dynamism.

Introduced in 2018, the year that the contemporary Polaris collection was launched, the Polaris Date is the epitome of sporty elegance, its link to the design of the Maison’s classic 1960s diving watches very evident in the uncomplicated modernity of the dial, as well as the signature double crown. One crown is used for adjusting the time, the other for rotating the inner bezel. Visible through the sapphire case-back, the new-generation automatic Calibre 899, entirely created in-house, offers a 70-hour power reserve - highly practical for today’s active lifestyles. The Polaris Date is presented on a textured rubber strap that is easily interchangeable with a metal bracelet of other straps from the Polaris range. The 42mm

steel case is water-resistant to 20 bar.

The Polaris Perpetual Calendar, introduced to the collection in 2022, features one of horology’s most complex, useful and greatly prized complications. A miniature mechanical computer, the perpetual calendar always shows the correct date, automatically adjusting for the different duration of months and even for leap years. It needs no manual correction until 2100, and, after that, only on centenaries that are not also leap years. The automatic Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 868, offering a power reserve of 70 hours, was designed, produced and assembled within the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre.

recessed sub-dials display the date, day and month, balanced by a moon-phase display at 6 o’clock, which features the age of the moon as well as its phases in both Hemispheres - a pleasing reminder that calendars had their origins in astronomical phenomena. The 42mm pink gold case features an interchangeable strap system enabling rapid changes between the two straps presented with the Polaris Perpetual Calendar - black alligator for a more dressy mood and textured dark green rubber for a more sporty style.

The new additions to the Polaris line amplify the relaxed and contemporary elegance of the collection, while underlining its sporty and purposeful character, anchoring it ever more strongly as a modern classic perfectly suited to life’s everyday adventures.

GLOWING ALL OUT

Over almost four decades, IWC Schaffhausen has acquired comprehensive expertise in engineering ceramic watches. The material is light, extremely hard and highly resistant to scratches and was introduced on a wristwatch in 1986, when the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer launched the world’s first wristwatch with a black zirconium oxide ceramic case. Since then, major IWC ceramic innovations have included watch cases made of brown silicon nitride ceramic and black boron carbide ceramic, one of the hardest substances known. After introducing a range of Top Gun models in striking coloured ceramic, IWC is now pushing the boundaries even further with Ceralume. This luminescent ceramic is made using a highly engineered and patent-pending manufacturing process developed by the Manufacture.

“With the first fully luminous ceramic case rings, we underscore our role as a pioneer and innovator in ceramic watches. The development of Ceralume took several years. The main challenges we faced were producing watch cases with maximum homogeneity and meeting our exacting quality standards. To achieve these goals, we engineered a ground-breaking new manufacturing process - tailored to the unique combination of ceramic powders and Super-LumiNova pigments,” explains Dr. Lorenz Brunner, Department Manager Research & Innovation at IWC Schaffhausen.

The fascinating and mesmerising glow effect is achieved by adding highgrade Super-LumiNova pigments to the ceramic raw materials. Engineered by Swiss technology company RC Tritec, SuperLumiNova is a high-tech ceramic compound that behaves like a light storage battery.

The material absorbs light energy from sunlight or artificial light, stores it temporarily and then emits the absorbed energy as visible light. This cycle can be repeated an infinite number of times without ever causing the material to age or diminishing its light storage capacity. In dark chamber tests, Ceralume watch cases have emitted a bright blueish light for more than 24 hours.

Conventional white ceramic is made by mixing zirconium oxide with other metallic oxides. These powders are shaped into a so-called green body, machined close to the final case geometry and then sintered at high temperatures in a kiln. For the white ceramic to glow in the dark, Super-LumiNova pigments are added to the mix of raw materials. One of the main challenges in the development of Ceralume was achieving a perfectly homogeneous mix of raw materials despite their different particle sizes and avoiding particle accumulations.

To achieve this, IWC’s engineers reverted to a dedicated ball milling process, which had to be customised to the raw materials used. In addition, the parameters of the sintering process and the grinding of the sintered ceramic body also needed to be specifically adapted to the luminous ceramic.

Using the new Ceralume technology, IWC’s experimental division XPL has manufactured a fully luminous ceramic concept watch for the first time. In addition to its Ceralume case, the concept watch in a Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 design features a white luminescent dial and a white luminescent rubber strap. The dial and the strap have also been enriched with Super-LumiNova pigments. The dial’s brass base is sprayed with a Super-LumiNova solution before the printing is added on top of the luminescent layer. Manufactured in an injection moulding process, the white rubber strap is likewise enriched with Super-LumiNova pigments.

Developed by IWC Schaffhausen, the patent-pending Ceralume® technology will form the foundation of future developments and releases.

Taktouk Clinic

Leading UK celebrity aesthetic practitioner Dr Wassim Taktouk is tipping the temples as a brand-new area to watch for spring/ summer 2024. Losing volume on the temples can have a dramatic effect on our face overall and Dr Taktouk predicts that correcting this can take up to a decade off our appearance without surgery.

Our temples are the small flat areas that sit at the edge of your brows, running to the tip of your ears and back to your hairline. They give our upper face a smooth and contoured appearance and they help to define and shape a youthful face.

At his award-winning clinic, Dr Taktouk uses a 4-1 technique for ‘Temple Toning’ (as he likes to call it), which involves using Teoxane RHA® 4 & 1(Resilient Hyaluronic Acid which mimics the natural hyaluronic acid in the body and is designed especially for highly dynamic areas of the face), in a stacking technique that injects hyaluronic acid filler into 10 different key point layers of the temple in both the superficial and deeper layers of the face. This means that both fat and muscle loss in the area which is what can lead to hollowing and sometimes the dropping of the outer eyebrow are targeted. It acts like an inflated cushion to support tissues that have lost volume or elasticity eradicating the skeletal or ‘peanut head’ look that can occur around the area, ageing the face.

The temples also affect the structures that surround them, so by re-volumising this area, a youthful, fuller face is restored and by adding more structure, the mid to lower half of the face including the cheeks and nose-

to-mouth lines are also minimised.

The temples are an area which most people don’t focus on so it’s difficult to tell if you have had a tweakment. However, you will have a full consultation before starting any treatment to see what’s most suitable for your requirements and if temple toning is not for you or you don’t need it, then you can always opt for some Botox which will smooth out any lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines. This relaxes the muscles on your face and usually lasts for around 3-4 months.

Temple Toning takes approximately 30 minutes, with minimal downtime. Results can last for up to 18 months depending on the patient’s metabolism and the amount of filler used.

Skin around the eyes is 10 times thinner than elsewhere on the face and more vulnerable to accelerated ageing, however most eye treatments haven’t been designed for use on the eyelid, ignoring the drooping and sagging lids that can occur - until now. Dermalogica’s new Phyto Nature Lifting Eye Cream is a rich, nourishing cream that measurably lifts eyes and visibly firms skin over time.

Mantle's Miracle Mask is an instantly resurfacing + plumping mask designed to provide an immediate glow-up. Perfect for dull skin in need of a boost, the formula is packed with a transformative blend of gently exfoliating mandelic + lactobionic acid (PHA), soothing marshmallow root extract and moisturising panthenol, working to plump fine lines, refine skin texture and provide deep hydration.

Up to 50% of visible signs of skin aging come from the exposome, and the thinner, more vulnerable skin around the eyes reveals its impact on aging skin, far before anywhere else on the face. Eye fatigue from constant technology use accelerates the weakening of optic muscles, causing eyelids to sag; while sleep deprivation worsened by screen time hinders the skin’s ability to restore collagen, directly impacting the look of wrinkles, fine lines, and drooping eyelid skin.

Ultra moisturising, this highly sensorial cream is formulated with potent peptides, botanical blends, and CoQ10 that deliver a fast lifting, firming, and tightening affect to smooth eyelid folds. With key ingredients such as Astragulus and Electric Daisy Flower to instantly lift and smooth, and Squalane and Vitamin E to strengthen the skin's barrier run don't walk to buy this before even thinking of a drastic eye lift.

of solutions to so many concerns and conditions - whether cosmetic or hereditary.

Continually on the lookout for experts in the latest in scientific wellness and beauty developments, the already impressive roster of treatments, partners and practitioners is constantly expanding. Not only that, The Door W4 is CQC accredited, meaning the Care Quality Commission has confirmed a high standard of hygiene usually only found in hospitals and medical centres, allowing the clinic to offer more advanced, invasive treatments than in a non CQC facility.

One of the consultants working at The Door W4 in particular is Doctor Natasha Berridge. An Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester (MSc Skin Ageing & Aesthetic Medicine), a specialist advisor to the PMFA journal and a Consultant collaborator with Galderma, a global pharmaceutical company, Dr Berridge's credentials and work speaks for itself, making her a much sought-after Maxillofacial and Facial Plastic Surgeons in her field.

THE DOOR W4

Whether it's aesthetic enhancements or even facial reconstructive surgery you are interested in, Dr Berridge can help. Take removal of a benign mole and skin lesion for example, both can be treated relatively quickly and yet can have a dramatic effect on your confidence and overall sense of self appearance. The removal of lesions for cosmetic reasons is not available on the NHS as they aren't a danger to health, but many patients aren't aware of the safe, simple and cost-effective ways that practitioners can remove moles and other skin lesions.

After an in-depth consultation outlining the options for treatment, as well as the minimal risks and side effects they may incur, the short procedure is done under local anaesthetic or numbing cream depending on the treatment method best for you.

Moles can often be treated by excision or shaving of the mole

leading to skin looking smoother and feeling more comfortable. All lesions are sent off to be tested to ensure there is nothing more sinister underlying.

Highly skilled practitioners, like Dr Berridge, are adept at carrying out such procedures quickly and easily, ensuring permanent results with minimal scarring and recovery time. Along with expert guidance and treatment, The Door W4 also offers clients on-site, complimentary car parking - a rarity in London, and guaranteed to make your experience a whole lot more convenient.

Recently introduced is the E50 Exosomes treatment from leading aesthetic manufacturer Primacure and distributed in the UK by Cosmeditech. This technique uses a propriety process known as MIEA (Media Induced Extracellular Vesicle Adaptation) Technology to collect exosomes from the fibroblast cells of salmon testes and to then cultivate these in dermis stem cell media.

An exosome is a very small cell avatar which contains the core ability and growth factors of stem cells that transmits intercellular signals between the cells and by utilising salmon cells, it is ensured that E50 Exosomes have low levels of free radicals and impurities.

The MIEA™ technology limits the doubling time of the harvested exosomes. In Biology, the doubling time is the amount of time it takes for one cell to divide, or for a group of cells to double in size. The more times a cell divides, the weaker the

internal message/content. Therefore, by limiting doubling time, this quicker process allows for a powerful and purer final product with more exosomes per unit than other exosome solutions available.

To feel the full benefit of the E50 Exosome treatment, a course of at least 3 treatments is normally recommended every three weeks.

What to do:

As the most visited destination in the USA, you won't be surprised to know that Orlando is constantly evolving its offering in resorts, activities and cutting-edge dining.

Home to 48 Michelin rated restaurants, including seven onestar restaurants alongside 11 Bib Gourmand restaurants and 30 recommended, Orlando doesn’t just offer theme park excitement, the destination is also perfect for visitors looking to indulge in arts and culture, outdoors adventures, foodie discoveries or shopping experiences.

For something a bit different and ideal for those on a break away with a group of friends, head over to Orlando's original beer spa. This unique spa experience with a twist allows you to enjoy a softening Beer Soaking Treatment alongside complimentary self serve beer right next to the tub!

Kickback on a hay bale before making the most of the in-room infrared sauna. Wine and other drink options are available for purchase and it certainly isn't like any other spa you have been to before!

If shopping is more your thing, then look no further than the epic discounts to be had at Orlando's Premium Outlets. Bursting with brilliant savings from brands like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Coach and Tory Burch you'll be sure to find a bargain under the hot Floridian sun.

Just a ten minute drive from Downtown Orlando is Winter Garden. Possibly one of the prettiest neighbourhoods in Orlando and full of old world charm, the area is centred around Lake Osceola, boasting seven lakes and two beautiful waterways

to explore. The easiest way to see the area is by scenic river boat. Established in 1938, the tours are on the hour and come complete with a knowledgeable guide who carefully takes you around three of the seven lakes.

A fantastic way to take in the nature of the area through the many birds and fauna - think cranes and towering cypress trees - the tour also gives you the opportunity to discover the lesser known Orlando, allowing for views over the many stunning private homes and sprawling estates in Winter Park.

Back on land, and after exploring the beautiful boutique shops of Park Avenue and a spot of lunch at achingly chic AVA Mediterraegean taverna - try the platter of Greek spreads, or the tuna tartare with white soya, avocado and cilantro - get a culture fix at The Morse Museum.

The Morse Museum is known internationally for its collection of works by American artist and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933). Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen, curator of American decorative arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has called it 'the most comprehensive and the most interesting collection of Tiffany anywhere.'

He took the science of glassmaking and elevated it to an art form of new brilliance and beauty. If you fancy taking in more of Orlando's art scene then head downtown to the magnificent Dr. Philips Centre for the Performing Arts. Home to Orlando Ballet, the huge auditorium

inspires others through the majestic art of dance, with upcoming performances including Romeo and Juliet featuring live music from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and the festive Nutcracker.

While you are downtown, make the most of the buzzing nightlife scene. With plenty of lively bars, High T is a fun Alice in Wonderland themed cocktail lounge offering quirky drinks and a vibrant atmosphere. A must for any cocktail lover - or fans of the beloved character.

Closer to the Evermore Resort, and part of the Walt Disney World portfolio is Disney Springs. A sun-kissed haven of shops, bars and restaurants, this recreational paradise is jam packed with things to do and see, as well as gifts to buy for others and yourself.

One of the top dining recommendations while you're there is Morimoto Asia. Awash with cooling tones and inspired by the tranquil beauty of ocean waves, guests are transported to their very own coastal escape in the heart of London's Marylebone. The newly designed terrace sees the introduction of the brand-new cocktail menu, Unity by Water. To be served both outdoors and inside the bar, the menu is the latest chapter to team’s signature cocktail journey and a testament to collaboration, with 12 carefully crafted cocktails, all of which have been creatively developed with a specific emphasis on sustainability, a particular passion of Bar Manager Gaston Fusco and his team.

LUCHO

Inspired by the hotel’s Executive Chef Francisco Hernandez rich Chilean heritage, Lucho at The Rosebery is the new exciting culinary concept at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London.

Inviting guests to discover the vibrant flavours of South American family cuisine, Executive Chef Francisco Hernandez, affectionately known as 'Cisco,' to his friends and family, pays

homage to the heritage of traditional Chilean cuisine. Each dish served at 'Lucho' is a testament to the love and passion for food that has been passed down through four generations.

At the heart of the concept is Chef Francisco's grandfather, Luis, who was fondly called 'Lucho'. Lucho’s parties were famous for his homemade cooking, board games, creative cocktails, and love for life.

Using local, seasonal ingredients to minimise their environmental footprint, the menu at Lucho is packed full of traditional dishes like moreish beef empanadas, fresh British seafood, and beloved churros con Manjar - a favourite of Chef Francisco's children.

Highlights of the fun, illustrated menu peppered with anecdotes from Chef Francisco's life, include Palta Cardenal, an avocado and prawn dish inspired by Chef Francisco's childhood memories by the beach; British Seafood Tiraditos, a twist on the classic ceviche with hand dived scallops and Dorset Crab; Pastel de choclo beef stew made with confit chicken and corn; and Pollo al Limon served with Chilean tomato salad.

INTERNATIONAL SUSHI DAY

AND THE SCIENCE BEHIND UMAMI FLAVOURS

June 18 marks International Sushi Day and Champagne and sushi are, surprisingly to some, an excellent combination. Seafood and Champagne has long been a go to pairing from lobster, to oysters, to the classic smoked salmon blini. The success of the seafood and sushi pairings has been recognised as a chemical phenomenon – the official seal of approval needed to enjoy sushi and Champagne together at any opportunity.

Umami is the characteristic savoury taste that you find in seafood, shitake mushrooms, soy sauce and fermented foods. First discovered in Japan in 1908, umami is a flavour enhancer –particularly enhancing flavours of saltiness and sweetness. Umami

flavours are present in sushi in abundance from the Nori seaweed wrap and fresh seafood filling to the soy sauce accompaniment. Similarly, umami flavours can be found in Champagne. The levels of umami in Champagne are not evident on their own, however, when consumed with umami rich foods an ‘umami synergy’ occurs – making the pairing particularly enticing.

Blanc de Blancs. Made entirely from white grapes, Blanc de Blanc is a bright and refreshing style that is all about finesse. With notes of white flowers as well as citrus and exotic fruits, these Champagnes complement the lighter vegetarian sushi variations as well as enhance the umami flavours.

For sushi that is richer in flavour or includes spicy elements, opt for a Rosé Champagne. With its pinkish hue, Rosé Champagne is most often obtained by blending white and red grapes and offers lively fruit aromas. This gives it a vibrant body that blends perfectly with delicious sushi variations such as a spicy crab roll or those that include wasabi.

Alternatively, a non-vintage Champagne Brut is distinctly crisp with light fruit flavours and floral hints. As such, this is a Champagne for all occasions and dishes, and will pair well with a wide range of sushi flavours allowing the freshness of the seafood to shine. A Champagne Brut refers to a Champagne that has less than three grams of sugar per litre and no extra sugar added. We would opt for delicate sushi variations, such as sashimi or maki rolls with white fish as to not overwhelm the taste of the Champagne.

Subtle lighting with warm tones and materials complete the comforting, classic styling that the Holborn Dining Room has become known for.

LUXURIOUSLY BESPOKE

Bentley has offered various customisable options on its cars for many years, but now, the Mulliner team are on hand to create a truly bespoke vehicle to suit your every desire, whether you choose one of their pre-designed offerings or something truly unique.

your

BENTLEY MULLINER

At the very heart of the Bentley brand is a desire to push the boundaries, whether that be in performance or design, and it has been a part of the business from the very origins of automotive manufacture with Mulliner who operate today as Bentley’s personal commissioning division.

Mulliner boasts almost 500 years of craftsmanship experience and heritage dating back to the 1500's starting life creating luxurious horse-drawn carriages. It wasn't until 1923 that Mulliner set its sights on the automotive world however, exhibiting a coachbuilt two-seater, 3.0-litre on a Bentley chassis at the Olympia Show, a mere fours years after Bentley Motors was founded.

From there the relationship blossomed, most notably with the creation of one of the most iconic Bentley's to date - the R-Type Continental - which came in 1952 and later went on to inspire the design of the modern Continental GT which brought the brand back from the brink. Following this successful relationship, Mulliner went on to officially become part of Bentley Motors in 1959, setting up its workshopd in Crewe which remains the home of Bentley today.

The company has always maintained Mulliner's exclusivity and in 2020 announced that Mulliner would establish three distinct portfolios - Collections, Classic and of course, Coachbuilt. This

bentleymotors.com

MULLINER by Bentley

new structure allows customers to enjoy everything that Mulliner has to offer in the fashion that suits them. Collections allows you to indulge in the craftsmenship Mulliner affords with distinctly unique features such as intricate quilting on the seats and customised features on the exterior, all available as pre-curated options when purchasing your Bentley.

Varying cars are released by Mulliner under their Collections portfolio across production models and limited series vehicles - such as the Le Mans Collection - each featuring the Mulliner trademark quality. A host of Mulliner exclusive paints and veneers are also available to transform your Bentley from the 'run of the

mill' so to speak to the luxuriously personalised without delving too far into pandora's box.

Should you wish to venture a little further down the rabbit hole however, then the coachbuilt option is the one for you. Delivering an unfathomable plethora of options for your Bentley - and even the potential to create something entirely unique to you, should your budget allow - the Mulliner team are on hand to help you create your perfect car.

From the moment your conversations start with the team, they will build a profile around your every action and word that might indicate a certain need or desire for something specific to feature in

or on your new car. This could be from the simplest alteration such as embroidered headrests with a family crest or business logo, to fundamental changes to areas of the vehicle such as a bespoke boot feature for weekend picnicking or a specific material to feature in the car which will need to undertake extensive research and testing before getting the approval necessary to be used.

Despite the almost limitless options, there are still unfortunately parameters that need to be met from both a safety and sheer engineering perspective. The team at Mulliner will do everything in their power to make your automotive dreams come true, but if the physics don't allow for example, there may be no choice.

Pushing the boundaries however is something Mulliner are all too familiar with and continue to do so today. The latest triumphs from the Coachbuilt stable - Bacalar and Batur - are truly exceptional machines. Transforming all perspective of what you expect a Bentley to be, these machines deliver an aesthetic that is unmistakeably Bentley, yet appears to have arrived from a future catalogue.

When you remember that everything has been crafted by hand, the shapes and fluidity of these cars becomes all the more incredible. And style isn't the only thing that's different. Batur boasts the same iconic 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged

W12 engine, but in its most potent guise ever - offering in the region of 740PS - this is swift beyond measure. Not just because of the lightning acceleration, but the fact that this car remains so refined despite a much lighter feel on the road than any and all other Bentley's.

As luxurious and comfortable as the most finely appointed Flying Spur, yet ferociously quick and agile at the push of a button, there is a reason it packs a hefty pricetag well in excess of £1m. The level of quality in every aspect of this car is unrivalled. From aesthetics - which can obviously be fully customised to your taste - to performance which is above and beyond the realms of any previous production Bentley to grace the road.

They do say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and aesthetics is undoubtedly a contentious subject. Some might say that Batur is not for them, they may prefer something a little more traditional, classic even. Fortunately, the third portfolio that Mulliner offer is one that sees the return of some of the greats.

Modern reimagining of classic Bentley's reconstructed in as close a fashion as the originals were once created, this celebration of automotive history is reserved for the most discerning of Bentley customer.

Igniting the portfolio was the Mulliner Blower

bentleymotors.com
MULLINER

Continuation Series which saw the iconic Bentley Blower brought to life for 12 lucky owners with the team making almost every part from scratch, in many cases using the original 1920s moulds and tooling jigs, to ensure they matched those in the original car exactly.

Now, the Classic portfolio has set its sights on the legendary Bentley Speed Six that dominated Le Mans in the 1920's. Again, sympathetically recreated to ensure as close an experience to the original as possible for 12 lucky owners. Two cars have been used as reference points for the Speed Six Continuation Series.

‘Old Number 3’ was the third of the three Speed Sixes entered into Le Mans in 1930. It has been immaculately preserved and is still raced by its owner. And Bentley’s own Speed Six (GU409) which is a 1929 sympathetically restored road car built to the original racing specification which has provided benchmark performance and handling data for the continuation cars, with a full power and torque curve for the 12 new engines to match.

These are as close as can be to the original and set the standard for collectible classic production. But with such limited numbersall of which accounted for in this instance - you need to be as quick off the mark as Batur if you want any chance of getting your hands on the next recreation that Mulliner Classic unveil...and who knows when that might be.

MODERNClassic

Launched in 2020, the Morgan Plus Six - despite its Frankenstein makeup - is a British sportscar that beautifully amalgamates old with new. An undeniably classic aesthetic is paired with modern technology to create a car that on the outside delivers in the vintage appeal while not suffering from the same 'issues' you might find when handling a true classic car.

Boasting a 3.0-litre BMW unit under the bonnet with an impressive 335hp and 8-speed automatic transmission to manage

all that power, this is a wolf in sheeps clothing. A standing to sixty-two mile-per-hour time of just 4.2 seconds and top speed of 166mph firmly cement this car's place in the modern sports car category.

Maintaining the traditional bodywork construction of yesteryear however, this Morgan features an English Ash wood frame combined with a bonded aluminium platform for maximum rigidity.

This example from 2021 is presented in the desirable colour combination of Lime Rock Grey coachwork with a black leather interior. It also features the paddle shift transmission option, air conditioning and original service wallet.

It has just one previous owner and a mere 1,438 miles from new making it a very alluring prospect. It comes with its original sales invoice and a host of extras shown on its original build sheet including 19" plus pack black alloy wheels, special paint finish, yellow brake callipers, driving spotlights and heated seats to name a few. It also comes with two sets of keys which is always welcome.

THE POWER OF THE RIGHT PRICE

TOP TIPS FOR LANDLORDS NAVIGATING THE CURRENT RENTAL MARKET

with Guy Spencer, Head of Lettings, Savills Hyde Park

Over the last three years, rental values from prime residential property in London rose by an average of 23.1%, representing the strongest three-year period of growth in rents for a quarter of a century. However, the tail end of 2023 marked a change in market conditions – rental growth is slowing and pricing is becoming more sensitive.

Guy Spencer, head of lettings in Savills Hyde Park office, details how landlords can navigate the shift in market sentiment and how to achieve a successful rental.

Be strategic with your pricing

In a more considered rental market, launching a property at the right price is key to attracting the right tenant. While a high valuation might seem attractive, it may represent the worst advice and produce the poorest outcome.

Savills Hyde Park | 020 3159 1642 | savills.co.uk SAVILLS 72

Speak to agents who really know the local market and whose strategy is justified through successful, comparable lets. Ask them what stock levels are like for properties similar to yours and the percentage of prices being achieved, as well as the average time it takes to secure a tenant.

In the current market, the best approach is to launch with an attractive price, or one that is slightly below market value, in order to conjure attention and encourage competition. This method, while it may appear counterproductive, has produced some excellent results, encouraging best and final bids and offers over the guide price.

Consider a price reduction

After years of consecutive growth and an increase in mortgage rates, it’s understandable that landlords may be less willing to drop the guide price on their property – especially if they have achieved more from previous tenancies. However, if your property has yet to command any offers, it might be worth considering a price reduction.

While this scenario may not be ideal, it can pay dividends. For example, we dropped the price of a two bed apartment in Bayswater by £200 per month and subsequently drove a huge amount of interest before achieving an offer over the original guide price, prior to the reduction.

Turn-key appeal

It’s always good to stand out from the crowd, especially when there’s more properties for tenants to choose from. Homes presented in good condition and finished to a high standard typically attract the widest pool of tenants and achieve the strongest outcomes.

Updating windows, kitchens and bathrooms will have a big impact on a property’s overall appeal. Although these alterations can come with a heftier price tag, this will ultimately be reflected in its value and yields, as well as meeting tenants’ expectations.

Be open to compromise

With a more ‘normal’ rental market in full swing, landlords should expect offers under the advertised guide price. For those properties sitting on the market a little longer than anticipated, we’d always encourage an offer to be considered carefully by a landlord. Your agent will be able to advise you on how an offer fares compared to other rental values being achieved for similar properties.

Flexibility is key

Like tenants, landlords should be willing to negotiate too; and this doesn’t always need to be on price. Landlords should offer some flexibility, whether that’s on tenancy length, move in dates, tenant profile, allowing pets, or simply making a few home improvements in order to get the deal over the line. This will not only help let your property to a good tenant, it is likely to help you achieve that all -important guide price.
