The Beyond Botox Facial helps activate cellular repair, fight oxidation, restore hydration, promote exfoliation, decrease inflammation and increase photo protection. This effective alternative to surgery or needles includes an anti-aging complex that aids in tissue repair, reduces the appearance of fine lines and improves skin tone and texture for a more youthful, radiant glow. The facial is a combination of the ‘jet peel’ and the ‘magic of micro current’, along with the superb results-driven Skinceutical line of skincare with powerful ingredients to promote lasting skin health and improve visible signs of aging over an extended period of time, to improve skin colour, tone, and elasticity. Now that the tide is turning against invasive cosmetic procedures, Nuala is delighted with the demand for - and positive response to - the Beyond Botox Facial.
“Of course people want to see tangible results. That’s why I’ve put so much work into researching the very best and most effective treatments using natural ingredients. We are convinced that our Beyond Botox facial is just as effective as invasive chemical and surgical treatments – and a lot more pleasurable for our clients.” Nuala opened Serenity Day Spa in 2005. At Serenity the emphasis is on health and wellness and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Nuala has mirrored her salon ethos at Serenity and employed staff who specialise in Ayurveda and skilled massage therapies. At this quiet haven in Sandycove you are invited to simply relax, connect with your inner self and relish the moments of balance and tranquillity offered as you experience complete rejuvenation and relaxation. The spa also houses a fantastic mezzanine nail bar for all your manicure and pedicure needs. The list of nail treatments available from the nail bar at Serenity is quite simply amazing and includes everything from nurturing manicures and pedicures to nail enhancements and gel polishes. Of particular interest is the ‘Japanese Manicure’. In just 45min your nails will be transformed with this unique manicure which gives lustre, blush, and strength to the nails. Based simply on a multivitamin paste and shine powder, this manicure provides a natural way for keeping nails healthy and beautiful with a long lasting natural gloss. At €45.00 we think this is excellent value!

Sam Biddle Nail artist and educator extraordinaire, recounts for us the most popular trends of 2012 and gives us her predictions and top tips for 2013. This year we have seen a stark rise in the popularity of nail art, and I think we are set to see this popular trend continue into 2013. For 2012 it has been all about texture, we have seen the Caviar and the Bullionaire manicure, inspired by Harrods for the popular nail art line to the consumer, Original Sugar. This popular online nail art company also introduced to the market, at the beginning of the year, the original velvet manicure, a contrast to the normal glossy hard surfaces we are used to. This gave us a soft velvet feel to the nails, a seriously addictive, touchable look, which has been worn by the likes of Rihanna and Pink. From magnetic polishes to crackle glaze effects, the nail FX market is full of nail art applications in a bottle. Coming away from the obvious flicks, dots and flowers we saw in the early nineties, we are now seeing finger tips worn as fashion accessories, and some thought going into how nails might accent the outfit. Nails have finally become as important as hair colour and handbag choice. Three cheers for the fashion industry and nail technicians such as Marion Newman - who are now an integral part of the beauty team at all the major shows and work with the designers to bring highquality nail design, which is where nail art should be, to the forefront of people’s minds. So what’s in store for 2013, well personally I think we are going to continue to see texture on nails, perhaps a little more glitter and crystals, but I also think we will see more art work, influenced by the easy access to images and work produced through Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Nail design inspiration is just a click away. We may see the nails divided up into sections and abstract patterning, using shades of colour to enhance shape and length. I also think with the accessibility of nail art products and tools from websites like www.originalsugar.com, it gives consumers at home an opportunity to dabble with the nail art paint and glitter. Original Sugar is a company, born from the vision of two nail professionals wanting to enhance the consumer market and awareness of nails and nail art and to help nail technicians and salon owners offer nail design. They have worked hard on creating a need and giving nail technicians the tools to fulfil it with the Original Sugar PRO range. For those who want a little more than clever colour combinations and abstract shapes, they could opt for what I think will be a large introduction to the market, or should I say reintroduction. Decals, basically stickers which allow regular Jane’s and Sarah’s to enhance

their nails with some clever art work created on paper, by simply peeling them off, or soaking the backing paper in water. These plastic images and designs can be placed over polish, giving an instant look and some clever art work in just a few minutes. Topped off with a top coat, this will work well with the growing market of permanent gel polish, which means the designs can be removed, and the wearer can still enjoy the expertly applied colour underneath. Hand painted nail design is still going to be a big part of the nail industry, but mark my words nail art is big business, and set to be around for the next couple of years. So, as a nail technician you need to find a way to give the customer something they want and which is on trend, within a time frame to make some money. With clever application tools like the nail art pen from Be Creative or transfers and wraps like those from Minx, you can achieve looks that rival hand painted designs. Nail art for 2013 will be about application, combining materials and cleverly placing colour to enhance design which will put your nails amongst those of the trend setters. Continue to work with texture, but off set this by doing it on just one or two nails, combine the texture with matte and gloss effects and polish, adding patterns, stripes, swirls and dots to bring in the clothes and overall look. Most importantly create design, mood boards and tips to inspire your customers, give them an opportunity to buy some nail art products to use at home in-between appointments. Offer them an opportunity to be creative. Original Sugar has made a large range of items to sell to your customers and utilize their inner creativity. Sold in cute little bags with a range of step by steps and support on their website, this is a brand which brings creativity and nail art into the home of budding nail artists.
