PALM CITY — By all accounts, Major John “Ski” Pietruszewski loved the art of shooting. “He loved this range,” Ruth Pietruszewski said. “He was here constantly.” On what would have been Pietruszewski’s 71st birthday — Saturday, April 26 — the Martin County Sheriff’s Office’s firearms training range at 8355 S.W. Busch St., Palm City, was named the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Major John “Ski” Pietruszewski Firearms Range. Ruth joined Sheriff William Snyder and other dignitaries, such as former Sheriff Bob Crowder, to honor her husband’s memory. Ruth said Pietruszewski, who most knew as “Ski,” didn’t just spend time on the gun range to shoot recreationally. He was always there training someone in or out of law enforcement the art of shooting. “He was a real workaholic,” she said. Pietruszewski moved to Martin back in the early 1980s. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in ‘83. The Vietnam-era Navy veteran had done a number of jobs, including sitting in airplane seat prototypes while getting spun in a centrifuge. That’s how the Navy tested seat ergonomics at the time. Ruth said her husband was a mechanic before moving to Palm City and going into law en-

MARTIN COUNTY — Sunken ships are filled with treasures. Not usually silver and gold, but grouper, snapper and triggerfish. On Thursday, April 24, the MCAC Artificial Reef Fund sunk a 224-foot ship in the Sirotkin permitted reef site, about 9 miles northeastwardly from the St. Lucie Inlet, in 187 feet of water. It’s now the Hailey Glasrud Artificial Reef. The idea is to get coral growing on the sunken vessel, which will create a local complex underwater ecosystem. Small fish proliferate around natural and artificial reefs, and draw bigger ones. The bigger ones draw bigger ones. “Fish like structure,” Palm City’s Jim Weix said. “Wherever they find structure, they congregate.” Weix owns The Real Estate Company-Treasure Coast, Stuart. He’s a member of the local reef-building organization, and is the weigh master for its an-

The ship was sunk as part of the MCAC Reef project Thursday, April 24, 8 miles off the coast of the St. Lucie inlet. Martin County’s newest reef can be found at 27°12.580 / 80°00.287 at 187’ deep. His death was surprising, because doctors had thought he was cancer-free by then. Important to Pietruszewski, Ruth said, was not just the art of shooting, but gun safety. “He focused on the safety,” she said. “He thought that if (someone) had a gun, they needed to know how to use it, so they didn’t hurt themselves or others.” Sheriff Snyder, too, said that Pietruszewski’s dedication to teaching safe gun handling, good shooting and the discipline to refrain from shooting improperly have done much for Martin County. “I think I can safely say that, given the thousands he taught, some civilian or a deputy is alive today because of him,” Snyder said. “He was very emphatic about safety.” The Martin County Commission approved the range naming in January, shortly after Pietruszewski’s death. No news in good news? B
ack in the ‘70s, a contemporary Christian artist had a song entitled “Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?” To prevent scaring everyone ala Santorum, I’ll be kind enough to remove the “d” and ask, “Why does evil get so much press coverage? Why do we allow it to warp our view of life when we know that the bad is the not the norm?” In February of 2012, a ‘60s music “legend” passed away at a hospital about a mile from my home. Although Davy Jones was no Mick Jagger, the group he was a part of sold more than 50 million albums. When I awakened the morning after his death, I did my usual perusing through the news channels and there was nothing, save for maybe a 15second mention of Mr. Jones’s passing. I understand that he was not Whitney Houston, but the contrast of the coverage really started me to think — why do we thrive for the dirt, why do we champion the evil in the world, why do we elevate the bad to such a high level of prominence when we know that we have many more good than bad events and good people outnumber the bad? I participate in some email discussion groups, and I have to plead guilty to the same. I am a negative posting person most of the time, and need to challenge myself to seek to be a positive poster. Our entertainment selections also have sunk to incredible lows. Popular TV shows like “Breaking
your
Bill Hughes Bad” and “Sons of Anarchy” are intriguing, but they concentrate on championing the lawbreakers, in some ways glorifying the life. News shows dig for dirt in every celebrity and the celebrities who escape their search for grime in their lives are usually not thought of highly. Think of Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin. Just let either of these two have some sort of fall from grace and the cameras will crank up and the media will spill out the dirty laundry quicker than a college student coming home for the weekend. Why do we have such an appetite for the bad, the gruesome, the evil and why does it “sell?” I have a few thoughts as to why we gravitate to the stories that we know better than to attach to. I think a big reason that there is such a concentration on the bad is that we have definitely created the market for it by allowing it to happen as a society. Whether you use the analogy of boiling a

frog or the vulture that lights on an ice floe to get a taste of a meal, only to realize that he is frozen to his meal, we have seen a steady increase of filth, dirt, and gore invade our homes through many means. Our silence is deafening and as a result, we have quietly voted for what we have in abundance. We have been “snowed” by what the media preaches as progress to regress as a society to see an endless parade of human debris called reality shows. Another reason I think that “crap is king” is that we can gain a lot of self-worth by realizing that we are not as bad as others that we see committing all sorts of evil to one another. We can see the drug addict and say with glass in hand, “Wow, I’d never get addicted to stuff like that.” We can see man’s inhumanity to their neighbor and feel good that we pay a lot of taxes and give food, shelter and health care to the needy through our generous tax burden. We can see bad parents who treat their children badly and think that our berating and lack of attention to our family is not so bad after all. The bad is championed and tolerated by us because life is easier if we do not have to confront things. We think, “So what if society goes to hell in a hand basket,
me and mine are all right.” I would like for you to try something sometime. Get on the second or third rung of a ladder and get a friend or family member to stand close to the ladder. See if it is easier for you to pull them up on the ladder or if it is easier for them to pull you off of the ladder. We can more easily be pulled down than we can pull others up. It might be easier to let stuff slide than it is to stand up to it, but the pain you might undergo may be the sacrifice that you make to change the direction of things. Life goes on for sure, and I still believe that the good in people and this world outweigh the fringe of bad and evil that gets all the press. I would encourage all of us, including a big ME to speak up and take a stand where it matters. Let the world know that there is still much more good than bad to be shared. Crime down in state and Martin County Staff writer
pmccallister@YourVoiceWeekly.com
TREASURE COAST — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released its 2013 Uniform Crime Report last week, and the numbers look good for the state, Port St. Lucie and Martin County. However, St. Lucie County edged up almost 10 percent in reported crimes. “You don’t want to live and die by statistics,” Port St. Lucie Chief John Bolduc, said. “It’s just another way of measuring our success and failures.” Nevertheless, the chief has something big to celebrate. Port St. Lucie took an enviable top spot this year after having the second year with a nearly 20 percent reduction in reported crimes. “It is the lowest crime rate for any city with a population over 100,000 in the state of Florida,” Bolduc said. He added, “We have less crime now than we had in 2002 and the population then was 96,000.” Martin County saw a more mod-
est drop in reported crime. “The overall crime rate reduction is 3.4 percent in this county,” Sheriff William Snyder said. The FDLE reports that Florida had the lowest crime rate in 43 years in 2013. Between 2012 and 2013, the state had a 4.7 percent reduction in reported crimes. The FDLE has tracked crime rates since 1971. Statewide, reported crimes dropped from almost 726,000 to about 699,000. St. Lucie County saw a 9.1 percent increase in reported crime from 2012 to 2013. Garry Wilson, chief deputy, said the majority of the increase was crimes of opportunity. “In most cases, it’s juveniles going through the neighborhoods and looking into cars,” he said. Wilson said that when opportunity criminals like these spot desirable items, they’ll check to see if the car doors are unlocked. “Some of those instances could be avoided if people would lock their valuables,” he said. Wilson added, “The only positive

CRIME from page A7 side of that is, it’s one or two or maybe three neighborhood kids sneaking out at night. Invariably, a parent will go into a room and (find stolen items) and say, ‘Where did this stuff come from?’ Then the story comes out.” However, St. Lucie did have a more nefarious crime increase: from no murders in 2012 to seven in 2013. One killing, Wilson said, was a domestic shooting. Another an unfortunate death following a fistfight. But— “Of the seven we had, five were most likely gang related,” Wilson said. The county saw significant drops in forcible sexual offences, from 55 in ‘12 to 34 in ’13, and robberies, from 31 to 20. However, it saw a 35.4 percent increase in aggravated assaults and batteries, from 175 reported in 2012 to 237 in 2013. Wilson attributed some of that to educational programs making victims more willing to report crimes. Additionally, St. Lucie had increases in burglaries, thefts and auto thefts. Bolduc said that criminals don’t regard boarders and apparent crime spikes, or drops, in one jurisdiction are partly a matter of luck. “We have quite a bit of flow between Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie,” Bolduc said. The three lawmen said there are effective strategies departments use to combat crime. Bolduc attributed Port St. Lucie’s large drop in reported crimes to a couple factors. One is “institutional systemic response to crime.” “We have a very systematic response to (crime),” Bolduc said. “Analysis is the first stage.” Bolduc said Port St. Lucie police have worked for about eight years with Rachel Santos, associate professor at the school or criminology and criminal justice at Florida Atlantic University. He said the professor has helped the department form crime tracking and response methods that seem to be working. “We follow a model we’ve developed,” Bolduc said. Back in Martin, Sheriff Snyder, who started the job in 2013, has emphasized public education about criminal activities and
YOUR VOICE NEWS & VIEWS • PALM CITY & TESORO • MAY 2, 2014 • A9 used many forums to urge residents to call about suspected criminal activity. At a recent Palm City Chamber of Commerce town hall meeting, he said a major factor in combating a scourge of pillowcase burglaries was citizens calling in “signal 13s,” suspicious vehicle reports. Pillowcase burglars frequently rent late-model cars in their home counties, often Broward, and put on temporary tinting to ply their trade in upscale neighborhoods. “We saw an incredible increase (in suspicious vehicle reports),” Snyder told town hall attendees. And a corresponding drop in pillowcase burglaries. “I think we’ve mobilized everybody in a war on crime,” Snyder said in a later telephone interview. “Our digital footprint has helped a lot. We connect (with residents) with Facebook and Twitter.” Breaking feeds on Facebook and Twitter have helped catch criminals. For example, citizens helped the Martin County Sheriff’s Office nab a pair of criminals burglarizing houses in Tropical Farms on April 7. A suspicious-vehicle report triggered a hunt for the suspects that culminated in a lockdown of Crystal Lake Elementary school. After a dramatic chase, deputies arrested Cordy Leprell Walton, Riviera Beach, and Courtney Desmond Zieler, West Palm Beach. Among other offenses, they were charged with counts of aggravated battery on law-enforcement officers. During a chase, the suspects rammed deputies’ cruisers. Bolduc, too, said that the Port St. Lucie Police Department has reached out to residents to report suspicious activities. “Crime prevention is a lot more than putting people in jail,” he said. “Crime prevention is creating an environment where the community is engaged with the police department and the police department and city hall is engaged in the community.” However, Bolduc said that his and other area departments have done well in finding and arresting suspects in crimes. “We have noticed that as the arrests go up, the crime goes down,” he said.

Weix said adding artificial reefs off the county’s shore helps the local economy in many ways. “One of the reasons people move to Florida is the fishing,” Weix said. “Good fishing promotes a lot of things in our economy. A lot of people in the Stuart area make a living off fishing.” The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that the Hailey Glasrud will join about 450 artificial reefs around the state’s shores. Martin has about 40. The MCAC Artificial Reef Fund started about 10 of them. “MCAC” stands for the Martin County Anglers Club, which is now defunct. John Burke, founder and president, said the reef fund decided to keep the moniker, because it was familiar to many. Burke also said making an artificial reef, a “condo for fish” ain’t cheap. “This last one cost around $150,000 total,” he said. “That’s

PALM CITY — Monarch Country Club was the recent setting for this year’s Caring Children Clothing Children Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. The event was held to honor all of the 4Cs volunteers involved in serving clients, sorting clothing, picking up clothing and tutoring, as well as committee chairs and board members. In the year 2013, 4Cs volunteer hours surpassed 3,000. Quite an accomplishment for 200 volunteers. This year, the cost of the event was underwritten by an anonymous donor and friend of the 4Cs. More than 125 volunteers and guests attended the event, where two volunteers of the year were named: Maureen Wegner, of Stuart, Volunteer of the Year for the 4Cs and Betty Gleason, of Hobe Sound, Reading Tutor of the Year. This resolved the matter resulting in the client owing the IRS nothing! Another new client received a proposed change to their 2011 Individual Income Tax stating they owed the IRS $10,078 in tax, penalty and interest. In this case the client had received a corrected notice of earnings from the Social Security Administration. The IRS was trying to tax the client for the original notice and the corrected notice. After retaining us, we identified the error resulting in the client owing nothing! A third new client received a notice from the IRS regarding the $166,000 in tax, penalty and interest which he legitimately owed on his 2008 Individual Income Tax. This resulted in the IRS placing a levy on the clients bank accounts. After retaining us, we were able to have the levy released and put his account in a “currently uncollectable” status so he was no longer receiving the harassing collection letters from the IRS.

Nail in lagoon’s coffin Army Corps turns down CEPP Nicole Rodriguez Staff writer
nrodriguez@YourVoiceWeekly.com
TREASURE COAST — The Army Corps of Engineers has pulled the plug on the lagoon’s life support. That’s what a resounding number of Treasure Coast residents say the Corps did when they refused to sign off on the Central Everglades Planning Project last week, making it impossible for projects inside to receive funding from Congress. “Without the river, we’re burying a way of life,” said Nyla Pipes, one of the founding members of One Florida Foundation, a nonprofit group dedicated to advocating for
clean water in the state. Pipes vowed river warriors will forge on with the fight, despite the stunning upset. The Port St. Lucie resident was among thousands of other locals who staged mass protests last summer, demanding Lake Okeechobee discharges stop. “That’s the thing with this group and this community,” said Pipes, who pleaded her case in front of members of Congress last year. “We’ve reached a level where we won’t put up with this. We have to fix this.” The goal of the Central Everglades Planning Project, most commonly referred to as CEPP, is to deliver a final plan, known as a Project Implementation Report,

musicians have an opportunity to play with the pros, hone their skills, try their talents in front of a live (and very supportive) audience, and show us their stuff. It’s live music the likes of which you’ve never heard, and it’s an incredible opportunity for the students. And while we all know that April’s showers bring May flowers, in Florida — at least on the Treasure Coast, they also bring something just as blooming wonderful — scholarships for a whole bunch of deserving students. Tuesday, May 27 is the big night all of us from Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society wait for all year long. It’s our Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa all wrapped up in one supremely special evening, and we wouldn’t miss it for the world. We hope you’ll feel the same way and join us during all of the “auditions” each Tuesday leading up to the Scholarship Award Presentation Evening on Tuesday, May 27th, at 7 p.m. at the Sunrise Black Box Theatre. As part of our mission, each year the Jazz Society awards merit scholarships to worthy area high school graduate musicians who have displayed high academic achievement, good citizenship, and promising musicianship. In addition to a whopping $1,000 scholarship to help defray the costs of continuing education, the Jazz Society also bestows the gift of a year’s membership to the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society on each scholarship award recipient. Every year, our scholarship winners prove to us what tremendous individuals they are, and without fail, each of them comes back to share his or her talents with the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society during school breaks if they’re attending school outside of the area, or throughout the semester if they’re attending college locally. Students perform in our jams, share their talents through educational opportunities, attend master classes, mentor younger musicians, and donate their time and talents to the community in the same way as the professional musicians and contributing members of the Society who modeled that same spirit of community and musicianship to them. It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly, and it’s why we work hard all year long. Of course we love music, and all year long, our members work hard to present Jazz and Blues to the area by making these two American musical art forms available on a regular basis in order to foster greater appreciation and understanding. The Society

LAGOON from page A21 for a suite of restoration projects in the central Everglades and Indian River Lagoon to prepare for congressional authorization. CEPP identifies and plans for Army Corps projects on land to send more water south to the central Everglades. The Army Corps Civil Works Review Board in Washington, D.C., put the brakes on the project last Wednesday, citing a slight difference in terminology in a small portion of the report and the South Florida Water Management District’s final resolution. The Corps review board has not finished sifting through all 8,000 pages of CEPP, Corps planning an policy division chief Eric Bush said during a telephone press conference. Bush also addressed frustrations on the Treasure Coast. “It’s not a stalling tactic …,” Bush said. “This has been a very expedited process since November 2011 to today. We’re less than three years into this study and we’re right at the brink of approval right now.” The Corps announced it would have an updated report no later than the end of June, after Congress recesses for the summer. A new and improved water bill is expected to hit the U.S. House

floor before then — too little, and much too late for lagoon project funding. It’s been almost a decade since Congress updated its current water bill. U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter, released a statement the day after the decision promising to “hold the Corps’ feet to the fire.” “The Corps must be held accountable to meet their deadlines and I will do everything I can to urge the Army Corps to address the review boards’ concerns and to approve CEPP as quickly as possible,” Murphy said. “I will be inviting the bureaucrats making this decision to our district to see first-hand the harm these discharges cause to our waterways so they understand the importance of this project and that our community is going to be holding their feet to the fire to get this done.” Gov. Rick Scott, who’s been criticized by lagoon advocates for a lack of support, also issued a statement calling for action. “We are extremely disappointed that Corps officials in Washington refused to approve CEPP at yesterday’s meeting. Day-by-day the rainy season approaches, and that’s why we are asking the Board to immediately reconvene

PALM CITY — Come and explore the Martin Grade through photos and stories with award-winning author Mary E. Dawson, Saturday May 3 from 2-3 p.m. at the Peter & Julie Cummings Library, 2551 S.W. Matheson Ave, Palm City. The Martin Grade in western Martin County was recently named one of Florida’s most beautiful roads. Discover its history; what you can do along the way, what makes the Grade’s magnificent tree canopy unique, and how designating it a Florida Scenic Highway can protect the trees and the “Martin County difference.” Mary E. Dawson is the author of two prize-winning novels, “The River Way Home: The Adventures of the Cowboy, the In-
dian, and the Amazon Queen,” which is now available at Amazon.com and “Code Name Nanette,” which is in production. “The River Way Home” is a tale of old Florida for young and old alike. Rich in historical detail, it draws the reader deep into the beauty and mystery of Florida’s unique environment to experience her characters’ exploration of friendship, loss, and possibility. A former professional photographer, editor for NASA, community activist, elected official, and attorney, Mary searched from New Orleans, to Seattle, to Houston, and Miami, before she found the place she calls home.

Zydeco ‘king’ reigns at Lyric Staff writer
skoppel@YourVoiceWeekly.com
STUART — Terrance Simien is zydeco royalty. The Grammy-winner is an eighth-generation Creole whose family came to Louisiana in 1758. In a phone interview from Australia, where he was performing, he explained that zydeco, the music of the Creoles, is in his genes. “My DNA is French, African, Spanish, Native American and German,” he said. “All that fusion of DNA happened in Louisiana. Zydeco music was influenced by all the cultures. So was the food. ‘Gumbo’ is an African word. There is a fusion of ideas and art.” Simien brings his group, Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience, to the Lyric Theatre on May 10. He said that people often confuse the terms ‘Cajun’ and ‘zydeco.’ Cajuns, or Acadians, came from Canada. “The Creole people settled in Louisiana a good 60 years before the first Acadians,” he said. “They are different groups that are culturally similar. Creoles showed the Cajuns how to adjust to the climate. Without Native Americans in Louisiana, no one

could have figured out how to live there.” Simien plays the accordion and sings lead vocals in his band. Danny Williams is on keyboard and vocals, Keith Sonnier plays drums and sings, Stan Chambers is the bass player and singer, Eric Johanson is on guitar and Ralph Fontenot plays the frottoir and zydeco rubboard. The latter two instruments are traditional in zydeco music. Simien said that the show he presents is not one-dimensional “We play traditional and contemporary zydeco and hit songs that we turn into our own,” he said. “We love all kinds of music. When something inspires us, we try to put it in the show. There’s original material that can sound very traditional, or a little more modern. You never know what’s coming at you next.” Simien and his wife, Cynthia, are very involved in bringing this traditional music form to a new generation. They have created “Creole for Kidz” and the “History of Zydeco.” “In the past 15 years, we’ve brought it to almost a million kids around the world,” he said. “We’re

Summer at StarStruck features music, dancing, acting Staff writer
skoppel@YourVoiceWeekly.com
STUART — There is a full schedule of productions, camps and classes at StarStruck Performing Arts Center this summer. With everything from creative movement for 2-5 years olds to a production of the Broadway musical “Spring Awakening” for teens, there is something for every age and interest. The musicals are always the highlight of a StarStruck summer and this year is no exception. For kids entering kindergarten to third grade, there is Camp “Frozen.” Youngsters will have the opportunity to spend two weeks with the characters and music from their favorite movie and perhaps have the chance to be Olaf, Elsa or Ana. The program runs from June 9-20, with a performance for family and friends June 20. Jennifer Jones, StarStruck’s director, said that the show is geared to the youngsters. “It’s a musical revue of songs and scenes, and we’ll really cater it to the youngsters,” she said. “Kids who love
to sing will do that and kids who love to act will do that. The goal is a mix while learning the ins and outs of the theater.” Youngsters from grades 3-9 have the chance to celebrate another favorites with “Willy Wonka Jr.” The musical is based on Roald Dahl’s classic story, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The program runs from June 23-July 20, with performances July18-20. “In our version, there is no reason why Willy Wonka cannot be a girl,” Jones said. “It is a fun, kid-friendly musical version.” Teens entering ninth grade or above have the opportunity to perform in “Spring Awakening,” the coming-of-age musical that won eight Tony awards, including Best Musical. The rock musical is an adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s 1891 expressionist play about the teen years. This show has music by Duncan Sheik and is set in late 19th century-Germany. Teens express their concerns about their identities, sexuality and doubts through song. The show is rated R for adult content.

SIMIEN from page B1 doing it in Australia. There will be 2,000-3,000 kids. We want to give them a positive music experience. “Growing up in southern Louisiana, I heard it as a kid. It was a positive experience, dancing and listening to music. We educate them about a piece of American history that’s not in the history books and show kids about multi-culturalism. It’s all about bringing people together. Don’t fear me because I’m different. Let’s have fun.”
Every local gift made on May 6 through GreatGiveMartin.org will be multiplied with bonus dollars from a local pool and a national pool raised by Give Local America. Locally, the Great Give is led by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, United Way of Palm Beach County, Martin County Community Foundation and United Way of Martin County. All gifts must be made by credit or debit card on GreatGiveMartin.org on May 6, 2014. You may also call 1-844-GIVE-DAY (1-844-448-3329) to make a donation over the phone via credit or debit card. Each gift is 100 percent tax-deductible.
During these educational shows, the group brings some kids on stage and gives them rubboards to play. “We teach them a little French and a lot they’re not expecting,” he said. “Kids really get it. Teachers have them write thank you notes. It’s unbelievable. There was one from Florida that said, ‘Music is good but zydeco is better.’ I want to put it out there and connect with as many kids as I can.” The talk turned serious as we noted that next year marks the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Ka-
trina. Simien commented on how music has fared during this time. “Louisiana is doing good with the music, from what I see. It’s made people stronger and want to preserve the music and culture even more. That’s what I see. The water’s gone and we back.” Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience comes to the Lyric Theatre, 59 S.W. Flagler Ave., Stuart, May 10 at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $35. SUMMER from page B2 “It’s an incredible show,” Jones said. “The most special part is while it’s set in 1890s Germany, what teens sing about is the same angst, pain, confusion and desire to buck authority as now. These are real-life issues”. The program runs from June 16-July 6, with performances July 4-6. Jones noted that auditions are May 4 and anyone unable to make that date must call to schedule an audition. For those who want to focus on specific interests without the pressure of performing, there are weeklong camps that include intensive dance, intensive acting, creative movement, ‘Nuttin’ but Dance’ and ‘Nuttin’ but Acting.’ All Star Camp has a little of everything. Each has a specific age group in mind. One special camp, Cirque Intensive, for those in second grade and older, focuses on the art of dance

in the style of popular shows like Cirque du Soleil. “We have an instructor, Maria Elena Alfieri, who teaches the dancing and the tricks,” Jones said. “It’s super-popular and we’re one of the only places that offers it. We have all the different things they do on Cirque du Soleil. It’s amazing for upper body strength. There are gymnastics that go along with learning to use the silks.” The camps welcome seasoned performers and newcomers and are an excellent way to discover a new passion.
