MARTIN COUNTY — The Martin County Commission gave county staff the nod to move forward with a proposed 10-year, 1-cent sales tax, but it’s not a sure thing. The proposed sales tax would bring Martin’s rate to 7 cents for every $1 of qualifying sales up to $5,000, starting in January. But voters will have to approve it in November.

PALM CITY — Thirteen boys from northern Martin County came together during the sweltering summer to play the game they love. As the months carried on, contemporaries and supporters of all ages from the area were constantly refreshing their Twitter feeds to check on their performance. When their run finished, it resulted in a state championship and plenty of accolades from their galvanized community.
