TREASURE COAST — Will Weatherford, Speaker of the Florida House, was flooded with Lake Okeechobee, the C-44 Canal, St. Lucie River, and Indian River Lagoon. On Monday, Nov. 11, State Sen. Joe Negron, R-Palm City, gave Weatherford an extensive tour of area waterways damaged by massive releases of water from Lake Okeechobee over the summer. The tour was an unsubtle sales pitch to get the speaker to back recommendations in the Florida Senate Select Committee on the Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee Basin report. The committee released the report on Nov. 5.
