ST. LUCIE COUNTY — Three-dimensional printing started as a seldom-seen process many people became enamored with after watching a Youtube video and seeing a machine continuously drip plastic until a 3-D model is created. But, those days are mostly done with 3D printer prices dropping and popularity ramping up. The printers range drastically in size and cost. Some are about the size of an average microwave, perhaps taller, and one model — believed to be the smallest 3-D printer available, is just 8 inches high and 4 inches wide.

ST. LUCIE WEST — A slew of new developments are coming to fruition in St. Lucie West, making it only a short matter of time until the region is fully built-out. Today’s St. Lucie West stands in stark contrast to what originally stood in the early ‘90s. It started with the PGA Clubhouse,

Publix and Kmart. Now businesses are at every turn and there’s more to come. Developers submitted plans to build a Pollo Tropical restaurant, a Caribbean-inspired chain known for its fresh grilled chicken and traditional sides such as rice and beans, at the Shoppes in St. Lucie West. Menin Development, the company that owns the Shoppes plaza, also has plans for a 10,000-square-foot store (that

hasn’t been revealed) in the plaza next to LA Fitness. A HomeGoods furniture store is also set to be built next to Burlington Coat Factory, but a date has not been set for its arrival. Commercial development is about 67 percent completed, according to an assessment done in July by the St. Lucie West Services District, but residential development is mostly complete at 94 percent. Fountain View Plaza, across

from Carrabba’s Italian Grill, will have restaurants, retail stores and a couple hundred condos, St. Lucie West Services District manager Dennis Pickle said. There is also space next to Tradition Stadium as well as an11-acre plat next to South County Stadium for apartment complexes. Pickle, who’s lived in the area for the past seven years, said St.
