TREASURE COAST — Ink on President Barack Obama’s $3.9 trillion 2015 fiscal budget barely dried before news spread on the Treasure Coast that Obama granted full funding for construction of Martin County’s C-44 project which will help filter filthy Lake Okeechobee discharges before the water reaches the fragile Indian River Lagoon. The $38 million to complete Phase 1 and 2 of the project was the full funding the Army Corps requested, said U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter. The freshman Treasure Coast congressman brought the lagoon’s plight to the forefront in Washington, D.C., during an October congressional hearing attended by hundreds of concerned area residents and more than 20 members of the U.S. Congress and Senate. “This is a really big win despite the tough fiscal times and despite all the calls up here to slash spending,” Murphy said during a March 5 press call. “The president basically singled out

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — Thanks to the generosity of one local dermatologist, Boy Scouts who stick with their Fort Pierce troop until reaching the highest ad-
vancement rank of Eagle Scout will receive a scholarship to Indian River Sate College. Dr. Shamsher Singh donated $450,000 to the scholarship fund last week, which is enough money to cover close to 70 twoyear scholarships. Troop 772 was recently started
