TRADITION — Port St. Lucie’s City Council decided to hold off on selling Tradition Studios to advertise the building a little longer through different channels in hopes of attracting more offers. The council held a special meeting last Friday to review five proposals and share their progress with the public after receiving multiple public records requests. Five bids were submitted, ranging from $8.5 million - $15 million. The studio’s appraised value is $12.7 million. Many had wondered if the site would be sold, marking a new

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — Some changes are underway and new programs are being implemented this school year as about 42,000 students get ready for a new school year starting Aug. 18. Parent should be ready to give
their sons or daughters an extra quarter each day for lunch. Students in grades six through 12 will now have to pay $2.50 lunch, as opposed to $2.25 last year. The schools have little control over the price, if they intend to keep their funding, county school board chairwoman Debbie Hawley said.
Students who wish to work in the food service industry will have a chance to get a leg up on the competition while in high school with a new partnership with Indian River State College. Students will be able to culinary classes and earn college credits at the college starting
“It’s another one of those legislative requirements,” she said. The school is required to set prices that match the amount the federal government chooses to reimburse schools for free lunches they provide to students. “We don’t want to raise prices, but we certainly don’t want to lose our funding,” Hawley said.
