PORT ST. LUCIE — Mayor Greg Oravec is giving the annual State of the City address before the Nov. 9 regular City Council meeting. He announced the date and time at the council’s Oct. 12 meeting. The decision came after a rift with the council at a previous meeting. “I was contemplating a major break in tradition without a public discussion, and it’s pretty understandable in hindsight,” Oravec said at the recent meeting. At the earlier meeting, members of the City Council wanted to know why Oravec planned to give the annual State of the City address at the St. Lucie Trail Golf Club for $50 a seat, with sponsorships ranging from $500 to $2,500 available to business donors. “The public should not have to pay to go to this event,” Council-

ST. LUCIE WEST — Mayor Greg Oravec headed back to school. Actually, he met with third graders and seventh graders at Renaissance Charter School
at St. Lucie on Friday, Oct. 8. He discussed civics and local government and shared some of his 19 plus years of experience in local government. Oravec answered attentive student’s questions and as it turned out the children knew quite a bit about government already.
“I was very impressed with your knowledge of the Constitution and levels of government,” he told the children after quizzing them. Oravec then asked the schoolchildren for five things they’d do
