Each of Youth Resources’ programs emphasizes the importance of community, acknowledging that we can’t solve big problems on our own. As a testament to that core value, Youth Resouces partners with over 150 local organizations to collaborate on projects, events and resolutions to issues that are affecting our community and our

DREAM CENTER

On any given day you’ll find TAC members with elementary and middle school students at The Dream Center working on homework, playing games in the gym and helping to serve snacks and meals. TAC has partnered with The Dream Center’s afterschool programs since 2012. “TAC volunteers provide vital volunteer manpower to make sure our kids have a safe and fun experience. But more than that, the leadership these students display combined with their quality character presents an irreplaceable model for our students. Adults modeling leadership and great moral behavior is one thing, but when our kids see their peers modeling great behavior, it impacts them so much more,” said Jeremy Evans, Executive Director of the Dream Center.

hours completed by EBA members through Teen Court

The Vanderburgh County Teen Court program offers students the opportunity to actively lead as youth volunteers in the justice process. The Evansville Bar Association has been involved with Teen Court since the program’s start in 2003. “Our attorneys have the opportunity to mentor students with an interest in law, which helps to cultivate future generations of attorneys. In turn, those students are able to learn about the practice of law in a real-life, practical setting,” said Max E. Fiester, EBA President. With the support of EBA attorneys, Teen Court remains vibrant and valuable for both respondents and youth volunteers, while creating a gateway for students to learn about the criminal justice system.

“THE EBA GREATLY VALUES ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH TEEN COURT. YOUTH LEARN ABOUT ACCOUNTABILITY AND GAIN RESOURCES TO HELP THEM SUCCEED IN THE FUTURE.” Max E. Fiester, EBA President

FUN WITH FOSTER FAMILIES

Hug Packs made with the help of

youth volunteers

The average foster care child moves many times before the age of 18, often carrying only a garbage bag of belongings. A Make A Difference Grant allowed Fun for Foster Families, a group spearheaded by 15-year-old North Posey junior Lindsey Koester, to create Hug Packs filled with essential toiletries and toys for local children. “Family is very important to me. Two of my aunts have adopted foster children, and they are what inspired the project,” said Lindsey, who has has 37 first cousins, including two adopted foster children. With this small gesture, Lindsey and her family and friends hope to provide kids with a piece of dignity during a time of great anxiety. Make A Difference Grant recipients like Lindsey are impacting their local communities across the Tri-State through youth service.

“WITHOUT A DOUBT THESE GRANTS CAN HAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY AND IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS IN NEED.” Lisa Koester, Parent of a Make A Difference Grant Recipient

VCSO volunteers have been volunteering with YR for 5 years or more

For 13 years, a group of Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office volunteers have spent two weeks of their summer with middle and high school students at TEENPOWER, YR’s leadership development conference that focuses on substance abuse prevention. Not only do they ensure a safe and secure environment for participants, the VCSO’s commitment to TEENPOWER encourages young people’s respect for law enforcement officers and creates mentoring relationships that last a lifetime. “TEENPOWER is a proven curriculum that really promotes the development of strong character and community mindedness within our youth. Now more than ever our young people need to develop the confidence and self-esteem to resist negative peer pressure,” said Sheriff Dave Wedding. In addition to their involvement with TEENPOWER, Sheriff’s Office members also volunteer each year at the Youth Resources’ Fall Festival booth, which helps raise funds for all of the Youth Resources’ programs.

“THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS PROUD TO PARTNER WITH TEENPOWER AS THEY SEEK TO INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION OF COMMUNITY LEADERS.” Dave Wedding, Vanderburgh County Sheriff
