CREATIVE DRIVER E
ntrepreneur. Funny word isn’t it? Funnier is the definition that accompanies it: “A person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so”. Let’s highlight the latter part of the sentence - ‘taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so’ and add ‘a journey that will test every cell, hair, bone and muscle in your body’? I think that should be the new definition for an ‘Entrepreneur’, you listening Webster!? It seems lately the more and more layers I peel the messier and crazier this ride keeps getting. But the sweet irony lies in the fact that the tougher the ride gets, the more you learn about yourself. And the tougher the challenged roads become, the more you uncover beneath the dusty surface of who you thought you were this whole time and realize that that was never really who you were in the first place. Then one day you are watching Jim Carrey’s convocation speech and everything finally starts to make sense: We are all just a bunch of crazy people just trying to be normal at the end of the day and words like ‘crazy, challenging, risky’ are in fact VERY normal. There is actually no such thing as normal or crazy, it’s just got a whole lot of un-meaningful attachment attached to it to scare off people who want to be normal to fit into this very un-normal society so that no one ever does anything crazy or risky! But I think I’ve lost you, so I’ll stop myself there. What I’m trying to say is that there are not enough individuals out there taking enough financial or emotional risk. There is way too much meaning attached to one or the other and refrains people from living out their true potential. The reason people ride roller coasters to begin with is because they are fun, exhilarating, leave your heart racing and wanting more. Now imagine feeling like that every day of your life.
Screw Society, Screw Rules. Be you.

The Result of Facebook’s Unrequited Love For Snapchat
I
t’s no secret that Facebook has had a crush on Snapchat since the app exploded on the market, what with their shabby copycat app, Poke, and its $3 billion cash acquisition offer that resulted in an infamously sassy rejection letter from Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel. Although more than half a year has passed, it doesn’t look like Facebook’s unrequited love for Snapchat will be going away anytime soon. You know what they say – the best way to get their attention is to make them jealous. A couple days ago, Facebook officially catapulted its answer to Snapchat into the app world. It’s called Slingshot. Snapchat was able to gain traction in the app and social media worlds because of one simple concept – shared content disappears, forever. I could send you a picture of a funny face and control how long you see it before it vanishes. With our attention spans getting shorter and shorter as we try to do more and more all at once, Snapchat makes people pay attention for those 7 seconds. It screams, “ HEY, LOOK AT ME.” Well, since Slingshot’s release for iOS and Android in the US, photos and reviews of the apps have surfaced on the Internet. For the most part, it’s a more polished version of Snapchat, with a sleek design and fast operating system. But unlike Snapchat where users can ignore snaps after opening them, Slingshot prides itself on its “shot for shot” concept. If the recipient wants to view a message on Slingshot, they must first send a message to the sender. The only exception for this is its React option, which brings the camera down to the bottom half of the screen and allows users to capture their reaction to a message. Facebook’s reasoning for this is their desire to break

The Youzus Report
the “1% Rule”, where a tiny fraction of Internet users create all the content for everyone else. Slingshot’s “shot for shot” rule ensures that everyone is a creator and no one is just a spectator. So, which is better? It seems that Slingshot isn’t all about making content disappear, but rather, giving users the option to preserve their photos. Settings could be manipulated to allow automatic saving and there is no time limit for viewing messages, at least until you navigate away from the page. Aside from the rocking layout and responsive experience, perhaps Slingshot’s greatest asset is the fact that if you take a screenshot, the sender won’t be notified.
But will this be enough to take on Snapchat? The respond-to-unlock feature could become annoying – why make someone put in the effort to unlock a message when you could just text them instead? The only way Slingshot will survive is if it’s able to make people comfortable with sharing clips of their day-to-day lives. Facebook and Instagram are for those breathtaking photos, Snapchat is for intimate or funny snippets, and Slingshot will simply document life. Maybe this is the only way Slingshot can coexist with Snapchat’s dancing Ghostface Chillah. Hey @evanspiegel, are you going to send Mark another sassy letter - because we’re looking forward to it.

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR KLOUT SCORE Klout is an online tool that measures your influence on all social media platforms. Signing up is as simple as connecting one of your social media accounts and then you can see how influential you are within your community. The more influential you are within your community, the higher your Klout score will be. The struggle many have is increasing their Klout score.
Top Influencers on Twitter
@VIBRANCEDESIGNS @FIFAWORLDCUP @YOSOY8A @VIRGINIATOVEGAS @THEDANOCRACY @BUDWEISER @STYLEKICK @SOCIALWU
1. Be Authentic
Post original, engaging, and real-time content. It is important to stay current and real with your audience.
2. Quality vs. Quantity
This is an important rule for social media. Quality over Quantity always! You do not need to post 20 times daily to see the most results/interactions. In fact, on Klout’s website, it states: “… generating 100 retweets from 10 tweets will contribute more to your Score than generating 100 retweets from 1,000 tweets.” Hint: Big personal events will usually result in the highest engagement.
3. As Your Score Increases, Work Harder!
Yes, all your hard work has paid off and your Klout score has finally reached 50. Don’t stop! Continue to connect, grow, and share. Your Klout score is reevaluated every day.
4. Start with One Platform
@FOOD @JIMMYKIMMEL @MEMKTGSERVICES @HUGEINC @SMALLBIZLADY @HERSCHBERG
Start growing your numbers and audience on one platform (ex. Facebook or Twitter). This way, your time and effort will not need to be split. Giving 100% to one platform will result in more numbers and connections, which will increase your Klout Score.
5. Connect with Influencers
Will influencers share, comment, or like this content? Will this give me an opportunity to engage in conversation with other influencers? Always think before posting; the people interacting with your posts is important - it really helps when somebody with a high Klout score shares your content.
FUN FACT: Barack Obama has the highest Klout score with a score of 99.

Here are five tips that will help you grow your Klout Score to the “perk level” (above 50):

BEATS BY DRE & NIKE TAKE OVER THE
WORLD CUP #DOINGITRIGHT BY: @PUJSTER
D
ays before the World Cup, it seems Beats by Dre and Nike took two different approaches to a very similar concept. Both companies released 5-minute long advertisements that appeared online before TV and have been all the buzz! It goes to show that companies should focus their budgets on online stories. YouTube - here we come!
Each advertisement used it’s own style.
Beats By Dre is #doingitright with it’s commercial cleverly titled "The Game Before The Game”. It’s not only about the music but how it inspires us to strive and play hard. It amps you up in the beginning with Neymar and his father (it’s his real dad by the way, not an actor = major win) and then it brings in various players ranging from Chicharito, Cesc Fabregas, Jozy Altidore, and Luis Suarez, to Bacary Sagna, wearing their Beats headphones while prepping before the game. Beats By Dre reminded
8
The Youzus Report
us of the Jayonce “Run” trailer, with it’s clean esthetics and various cameos from stars like Lil’ Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Lebron, Serena Williams, and more. It’s over the top, but hey, we’re not complaining with this kind of entertainment. It’s patriotic, fuels you, and has us all talking. Next is Nike with "The Last Game”. This ad features animated soccer stars from Cristiano Ronaldo and Tim Howard to Wayne Rooney, facing off against indestructible soccer-playing clones. The style reminded us of Despicable Me meets The Incredibles. I’m sure Pixar is wondering how they didn’t come up with this first! It tells us a story about soccer players being replaced by clones that guarantee a win. Soccer loses its emotion and fun. This leaves soccer stars unemployed (our personal favorite was Cristiano Ronaldo whose new job was a mannequin!) until Brazilian striker Ronaldo pulls them together to defeat the clones. The soccer stars join forces and play with emotion, take risks, and defeat the clones. Soccer or Football, depending on where you live, is truly an emotional sport, with a massive following. It brings the world together – and that’s truly what Nike did here. They pulled in the emotion, celeb cameos, and hyped us up with the passion that lives on and off-season.
Both advertisements were all the buzz days prior to the games and equally entertaining. Congrats to Beats by Dre and Nike - you’re both #DoingItRight.

NOW HIRING: 1,000 ADVERTISING SPECIALISTS BY: @VIVIANAMY
A
pple is currently looking to hire 1,000 candidates for its in-house advertising agency. The firm is reportedly unsatisfied with its longtime ad agency, TBWA/Media Arts Lab, and would like to boot them out by creating an internal advertising team. Recently, Apple has found that they have been executing more ideas from internal team members rather than those originating from TBWA/MAL. More so, TBWA/MAL has been deemed “not innovative enough” since the death of Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs. This has led Apple to leave an open invitation for project bidding from other ad agencies. Or, it may just be the opportunity for Apple to showcase their powerhouse ability by controlling all in-house operations.
Think you’ve got what it takes?
Please see below for qualifications: • Are you a wiz in the digital advertising world? • Are you a top executive from another ad agency? • Are you an employee of either: Wieden & Kennedy, Pereira & O’Dell, Wolff Olins, or 180 Amsterdam? ONLINE VS. DATING TINDER BY: @PRIYAAMM
E
veryone wants to find their special someone, and today more than ever we have plenty of outlets to help us find “the one” and connect with all sorts of people worldwide just not enough time. We all have our own opinions about online dating, but even today when many successful relationships are started online, people are embarrassed to admit to it. Could Tinder change this? The controversial and addictive Tinder, is an online dating app that might just send sites like eHarmony and Match.com to the start-up graveyard. Though online dating will find you a match based on similar interests, hobbies and desires, apparently these websites have been found to be too time-consuming for the common person. Feeling bored and lonely? Simply download Tinder, sign in through Facebook, pick a flattering picture of yourselfand you’ll be matched with photo after photo of potential mates, bombarding you quicker than a stream of Oscar night tweets. You pick a gender (male, female or both), then decide how far or close you want them to be (10 to 100 miles away) and how old (18 to 50+.) It’s like ordering pizza. You can also write a tagline to describe yourself and add a few more photos for people who want to learn more about you (looks) before making their choice. Swipe right if you approve of someone’s appearance. Swipe left if you’re not into them. If you reject someone, the poor schmuck won’t be able to contact you. But if you both swipe right, you’ll be able to chat up a storm until you make plans for drinks at a mutually agreeable location.

“
I swiped right on her picture and the rest was history How... romantic?
”
This app based simply upon looks, sexuality and judged solely on appearance is taking the single world by storm, but why? Perhaps it’s the notion that it can be played off as “just for fun”. It isn’t serious. It doesn’t ask you a million questions about yourself so you can find the most perfect match, it’s simply window shopping. Things can only get serious if you want them too. From pictures, to texts, to dates, to marriage? Who know’s how far Tinder will go in the future. Watch out for this app!
SO GOOD, SO PURE, IT’S NANAK!

MMVA BACKSTAGE CORRESPONDENT FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW -----------------------------------
BY: @LISATYLDESLEY He’s a growing YouTube Sensation, the MMVA Backstage Correspondent for the 2nd year in a row, and avid traveller. Dan Rodo, the genius behind the 20,000 subscriber YouTube Channel, The Danocracy. With big dreams he will stop at nothing to achieve them! It started last year when Dan won a contest to be the SUBWAY Backstage Correspondont for the 2013 MMVA’s. He did such a splendid job that they requested him back alongside one lucky winner, Alyssa Talbot. We were able sit down both Dan and Alyssa.and find out the scoop on the 2014 MMVA’s, as well as Dan’s hot YouTube Channel, adventures and plans to come.
only a couple videos but somehow it swallows you whole and you have over 100 in no time. I guess it all started back when I hosted my high school talent shows, being able to entertain people and make people laugh inspired me to somehow continue to do more of that. That was when I discovered YouTube. A platform that allowed me to reach a global audience from my room with feedback from all different types of people. After a couple of videos were uploaded I began to get a following that would return every time I uploaded something new. The feeling of having someone in Australia or India watching one of my creations and maybe laughing at some of my jokes became motivating to me. After multiple uploads I realized that getting started on youtube is a lot about trial and error with video topics. For an example my top video with over 2 million views is on simple science experiments, so that showed me anything can go viral. I love to constantly update my instagram and twitter and even have giveaways to my dedicated followers to give back for their loyalty
Q2. What is the coolest opportunity that has come from your YouTube channel? A2. I recently got asked by a high school teacher in Montreal to be a guest speaker for his English class. He had added in a social media portion to the curriculum and wanted me to share my experience with his class, and also answer any questions they may have. It really was one of the coolest things because I have always thought being a teacher would be an interesting career choice and this allowed me to have a taste of the teacher life. I also received an email from a teacher in Korea saying that my videos are used in her class because they are fun and also help her class learn the English language a little bit better.
Q3. Congratulations again on being the Subway Backstage Correspondent for the 2014 MMVAs. Tell us a little bit about that experience. What duties were involved? A3. It was amazing to be back for a 2nd year as the Backstage
Correspondent and even though the job was the same, it seemed like a whole new experience again. I got to work backstage all week long covering everything from the stage being built, the people doing sound checks, and interacting with the people on the street who waited as long as 3 days to see their favourite artist perform. It was one of the craziest weeks of the year! 15
The Youzus Report
chance to briefly meet them before their rehearsal and also got to hear the lead singer (Dan Reynolds) do vocal warm ups in an echoey stairwell, which, in an interesting way, sounded incredible.
Q4. What was the best part of being a backstage correspondent at the 2014 MMVAs? A4. I think one of the best parts of being the backstage correspondent is getting to do what I love and to have the push of a nationwide television station. I would be lying if I didn’t say that getting to hang out with some of the top pop stars was a huge plus as well. Overall, the BEST part of being the backstage correspondent is getting to see the final show. All week long I got to see little snippets of what the show would look like, but to see all the artists/dancers in costume and the stage fully lit up added a whole other dimension in comparison.
Q5. Who was your favourite performance? Did you meet anyone famousl?
Q6. Being a returning host - was this year different? Did anything unexpected happen? A6. I was thrilled when I got the phone call to return as the backstage
correspondent and thought that since I already knew how things operated that it would be a similar experience. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This year was FULL of new experiences and even the stage seemed much bigger. There was one incident on the night of the sound check with Ariana Grande. She wanted to go and see some of her fans at the backstage entrance on Richmond Street. As she was back there taking photos and signing autographs, some of the fans got a little bit excited and began to swarm her a little bit, so she hopped in her SUV and went back to her hotel. Moments later, the fans started to blame each other for scaring her away and the police had to do some crowd control until everyone was calm again.
What’s next for The Danocracy? So for the month of July and half of August, I will be touring the entire West Coast of the United States & Canada, and of course, will be filming for my YouTube channel. I will be doing everything from bobsledding at Olympic Park in Calgary and snowboarding in Whistler to visiting the famous Pike Place in Seattle and San Diego Zoo and riding the roller coasters on the Las Vegas strip, and TONS more! I release videos every Wednesday and people can also follow me on Instagram (@Danocracy) to get the scoop on what I am doing every day.
A5. I would say my favourite
performance was Ariana Grande. She had a huge 60’s mod themed setup on stage and tons of dancers that clearly have been dancing forever. All in all, she put on a really impressive set that everyone loved … I also may have a little bit of a crush on her as well. Some of the coolest people I got to meet were the guys from Imagine Dragons. They were the nicest guys and always seemed to smile for anyone walking by - they even took the time to go to the backstage entrance and hand out some leftover food from their dressing rooms. I had the

ALYSSA WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENTS FROM THE 2014 MMVA’S? Working with Dan at the MMVA’s was honestly awesome but my three favourite moments would have to be... 1) Being out of my element and in a new environment. I am so used to being behind the camera, or just making YouTube videos when no one is around. At the MMVA’s I was able to interview people and be in front of the camera while others are watching. It was nerve-racking but also extremely exciting. 2) Walking the red carpet was so cool. Although we were able to only walk it before all the celebs, it was still nice to get dressed up all fancy and I enjoyed being on that side of the barricade for once, instead of in the audience. 3) As a backstage correspondent I also had the chance to watch sound checks and rehearsals up close. Those performances are a lot different than the actual show. The performers interact with the audience more and you get to see their personality shine through. It was also quite awesome being backstage and walking past some of the celebrities. I passed Ed Sheeran, Lorde and Kendall and Kylie Jenner multiple times and even though I sound like a fan girl right now, it’s neat seeing these people that you look up to right there in person just a few feet away.

GOOGLE CAR
Are you ready for hands-free driving?
G
oogle does it again! Dubbed the Most Innovative Company of 2014 by Fast Company and determined to be more than just a search engine, Google has been pumping out killer innovations like it’s nobody’s business. Their latest isn’t anything like Google Maps for iPhone, super reminder Google Now, or the futuristic Google Glass, but a driverless car that breaks every rule we’ve ever known. Just when we thought we’d never be able to shake the bad drivers on the road, Google announces their solution to our every day problems.
Google’ Self-Driving Car features (or better yet doesn’t feature) the following: • • • •
No steering wheel No gas No brake pedal Sensors eliminating bind spots and looking in every direction for 200+ yards • One emergency stop button • Top speed of 25mph (approximately 40km/hr.)
This can be kind of daunting – imagine driving behind a car with no steering wheel or brake pedal – but when we look past what is missing in a Google Car, we can see all its benefits. Nobody wants to admit that they are a bad driver, but we all know that one person, who never turns on their blinker before changing lanes or speeds way too often. Google recognizes that we are often too slow or distracted to react to road conditions, and so they are taking a bold step in trying to rid the world of drivers entirely to eliminate the need for humans to make driving decisions. If the prototype works out as planned, this autonomous car will give us the ability to do what many people try (and fail) to do today while driving, such as checking our emails, texting, and getting Facebook updates. As well, the Google Car will be able to aid those unable to drive, like the elderly and disabled. The Google Car will hit the roads near Google’s headquarters in California later this summer for testing. Google isn’t expected to enter the auto business, rather developing the technology for existing auto companies to use. Several automakers have agreed that fully autonomous cars will be on the road by 2020... This leaves us wondering will our very near future be safe from poor decisions made while driving?
