CREATIVE DRIVER
Spring is here and my cold is finally gone! This month was a whirlwind to say the least. Don’t get me wrong, it started on a hot note – as in a vacation to Playa Del Carmen – but the minute my feet touched back on the cold grounds of Toronto, my body just wasn’t having it. Can you blame me though? I’m Indian, my body wasn’t made for these cold climates!
made my recovery period even longer. So in total, let’s just say it took me this entire month to start feeling like myself again. So why am I telling you all of this? Well I’m writing this more for the entrepreneurs out there that are building businesses, legacies, trying to change the world, and making their dreams come true. Take this from me (especially after this past month) when I say: if you are unable to step away from your business without it falling apart, you will never get there. Your business MUST learn to thrive while you are away. Your team must be the real, mean, lean deal and be able to handle anything without you. And that is exactly what my team did. They are the real deal, always pushing the pedal to the medal and driving this business to where it needs to go – with or without me.
As for my cold, I just need to explain for a brief moment that this cold was like no other I have ever experienced in my latter years. Whatever symptoms you can think of that come with having a cold, I had that and more. I was literally bedridden for 5 days – and mind you I had been on a vacation before that for 7 days, – so that is a total of 12 days that I was out of commission. 12 days! Not only did it make me nervous, as all I could think about was the work that was stacking up, but it stressed me out. And at the I freaking love them. end of the day, my stress levels

APRIL FOOLS! April 1st – the day when we’re all on extreme scepticism mode and don’t trust what anyone says or does. We do our very best to play practical jokes on our friends, which from personal experience, never quite work out as planned. But what happens when the big companies like Google and YouTube get their prank on? Obviously, the best April Fool’s jokes imaginable. WestJet Introduces Childfree Cabins
Ah, if only this were a reality. The original prank video kind of gives away the joke once the kids were put in the bins and onto the luggage conveyer belt. However, one can dream! Check out the video HERE.
YouTube Shuts Down
In 2013, YouTube announced on its official blog that they were shutting down. They stated that YouTube was originally a place for people to catalyze their creativity and submit videos. Eventually, in 2023, that video would be announced as the best video out there. Check out the video HERE.

Google Nose
It was hard to believe that Google had developed the technology to “search for smells”. But this video was so seriously believable it had the Internet confused and excited for the scents of the future. Check out the video HERE.
Skype In Space
Skype was working on expanding to the cosmos so users would be able to use Skype in the same way you would when on Planet Earth. Some new features included: • Automatic video rotation • Extreme gravitational resilience • Instant messaging in space • Additional language support The tagline: With Skype into Space, it’s one video call for man, one giant leap for mankind. Amazing. Read about it HERE.
With these past genius online pranks, we can only anticipate in excitement for what these companies will have up their sleeves this year. This is also probably the best time to announce that Youzus has bought out Google. Written by @krissyrubes

The Oscars Ahh, the Oscars. It’s one of the biggest star-studded events of the year. There’s the gowns, tuxedos, interviews, hosts, and of course speeches (and let’s not forget the infamous selfie) that make this night exactly what it’s hyped up to be. Truth be told, the speeches are really the only reason I ever watch the Oscars -- I really couldn’t be bothered with the politics of nominees vs. winners or who wore what. For me, it’s about who inspired the crowd. In my books this year, I would say this was Matthew McConaughey. Why? In his acceptance speech, he mentioned: “There are three things that I need each day. One, I need something to look up to, another to look forward to, and another is someone to chase”. The minute he began to break each one down, I knew I was going to be hooked. It was powerful, motivating, and inspiring. On Something To Look Up To: He mentioned God was someone that showed him that gratitude reciprocates. And while not all of us believe in God, it was interesting to hear this because even if you are a believer of energy, he indirectly touches on the point that a lot of us are learning every day: when you increase your gratitude and giving, you also get more in return. On Something To Look Forward To: He mentioned his family, and this really hit home for me because I’ve always believed in the saying, “it starts with family and ends with family”. Especially when we live in such a noisy world, if you are blessed with a supportive, loving, and caring family, you are destined to thrive. On Something To Chase: He mentioned it was the 10 year version of himself, which was enlightening because it went to show that he too was a dreamer, a believer, and a visionary; someone who looked to the future with the goal of becoming a better ‘version of himself’.

ZARK
Feature of the Month
FATAH
The first time I ever heard the name ‘Zark Fatah’ was around the same time I had just moved to Toronto from Vancouver. Facebook was on the brink of gaining momentum as a social media platform, and I had just discovered Century Room and King Street for the first time. Mind you, although King Street is seen as the city’s hub when it comes to nightlife, it wasn’t always like that – at least not nine years ago. Fast forward to present day (and many Facebook statuses later from the King Pin himself), I have watched Zark from a distance as he has morphed into one of the city’s most accomplished individuals. His drive and ambition has motivated others along the years to also seek ventures and opportunities of their own within the city’s nightlife and restaurant industries. When you ask someone who Zark is, they only have but great things to say about him: humble, ambitious, selfless, and someone with true grit and resilience. Every now and then in The Youzus Report, we like to highlight someone from our own city who is not only a leader offline, but online as well. And with more than enough digital followers to create a movement in the city, Zark Fatah is this month’s social influencer.

ZARK FATAH 1) WHO WAS ZARK 10 YEARS AGO AND WHO IS ZARK TODAY? In 2004, I was in transition from a promoter to a club owner with the opening of the original King West hot spot, Century Room. At the same time I was learning the ropes of the restaurant business with Blowfish (newly opened) and still taking off. It was a very exciting time for me as I was meeting people outside of the nightlife world and networking with people I found very inspiring. Opening Century Room in 2004 was truly a dream that became a reality; this project was an aspiration I had planned for since entering the nightlife industry at the age of 18.
who had been with us since year one. Recently we completed a full scale renovation changing the entire look and layout of the restaurant. The new design was created by our company Prototype Design Lab. The new look is inspired by an authentic Japanese design with some modern elements infused into the concept, very much like our cuisine. This interior renovation is only phase one of a three phase renovation. Phase two includes an extension of our building, enclosing what is currently our patio with a double-height atrium-style bar and lounge. The third phase includes private dining rooms on our second floor with a staircase to the rooftop for a spectacular patio - scheduled to open this summer. I decided to make these significant changes and reinvest into this location as I see the future of King Street and believe that the best is still yet to come.
3) Which of your projects/businesses 2) WHich PROJECTS/ BUSINESSES ARE YOU MOST gets the most traction on social media? PROUD OF? I am most proud of the successful 11 years at Blowfish Restaurant on King Street. As many may know, the restaurant business is tough and the competition is fierce. As King Street evolved, we managed to stay current and consistent while still catering to many of our original clientele 18

I am very proud of the fact that friends and clients consider me to be the ‘go-to guy’ for a specific type of lifestyle experience or information.
4) When did you begin building your brand online, And which platform would you owe the most credit to?
In 2006 when I opened Hammam Spa, my career path was diversifying and I felt it was necessary to position myself as a purveyor of lifestyle rather than a nightlife player. I knew there were other projects that I would take on that were not nightlife related so I created my personal website to communicate and share what I was most passionate about and what my ambitions were. During that year I also received a substantial amount of press that reinforced my credibility and global knowledge on lifestyle and entertainment.
6) What is success to you and do you believe you have achieved it? Quality of life is truly the marker for success in my books. I know wealthy individuals who are very successful professionally and have more money than they will ever need, but they are truly miserable on the inside. he freedom to spend time with family and friends, to exercise and travel, and simply enjoy personal time are luxuries of a successful person who knows how to balance life. restaurant business and leaving the nightlife scene to the next generation. As I’ve evolved, my passion and interests have changed and I am definitely more excited about food and wine now rather than bottle service and DJs. As well, I definitely hope to start a family in the next five years. Although the restaurant business has demanding hours, I feel it has a more suitable environment and lifestyle. Ultimately, I would love to grow and expand the Blowfish brand and open locations in other North American cities. As well, I also have an innovative supperclub concept that I’ve been developing for the past three years that I plan to bring to fruition in 2016.
8) What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs? any online branding advice? The best advice I can give to someone who is pursuing a dream and willing to make a bold move is to stay true to your vision and let it consume you. It is only when your every waking thought is focused on achieving your goal that you can rise above and make great things happen. It is very important to have a clear and concise message and identity when developing your online brand. Establish your identity and your brand will develop as people discover you and your credibility.

HAPPY 25TH
BIRTHDAY WEB! It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since we were first introduced to the World Wide Web. My dad will tell you that he was online before any of us. It gives him some sort of technological comfort since his knowledge of the Internet now stops at the computer’s power buton. Years later, my brother and I would argue over who gets to use the computer first and my mom would yell at us for tying up the landline for too long. Remember when you had to dial up to get online? Oh, how far we’ve come. I know I’m dating myself, but during my first year of university, I didn’t even own a laptop -- I actually wrote out lecture notes on lined paper! Could you even imagine? I typed out any essays on my personal PC or one in the library. Now I can’t go more than 15 minutes without checking something online. To put this in perspective, here is a list of other things that have turned 25 this year:
• Game Boy by Nintendo • First episode of The Simpsons • Fall of the Berlin Wall • First version of Microsoft Office • Taylor Swift • Original Batman movie release
It’s incredible what the Internet has produced within 25 years; from online banking to eBay to Facebook, the possibilities are endless. I can only imagine what we’re going to see online in the next 25 years.
