is honored to have been chosen as the launch site for photographer Rose Eichenbaum’s newest book, The Actor Within: Intimate Conversations with Great Actors. Ypsilantians may remember Eichenbaum’s work from The Dancer Within exhibit at YDL in 2008. In her third work on the confluence of art and human expression, Eichenbaum turns her artistic eye and keen interviewing skills on the lives of 35 celebrated actors. With probing questions and disarming manner, she captures the essential character of her subjects while shining a light on the art that defines them.

country star Rosie Flores headlines the 2011 Ypsilanti Songwriting Festival. Martin Bandyke will interview Ms. Flores about her stellar career and her collaborations with Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, and Jon Langford. Flores will perform a free concert at Woodruff’s at 36 Cross Street in historic Depot Town with special guest Paul Burch.

won a Peabody Award for her narration of the radio documentary on the history of rockabilly, Whole Lotta Shakin’. The All Music Guide says of Flores: “Alternative country meets the rockabilly revival meets California virtuosity…[Flores is] well respected for her gritty, energetic vocals and fiery guitar solos.” At 10:30 am, the Kerfuffles will perform family-friendly music kids will love. Flores’s solo recordings have landed on both the Billboard and Gavin charts and are featured in seven motion pictures. Her revved-up performances have won legions of fans and earned appearances on Austin City Limits and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Field Trip to the Stars Tour of EMU Planetarium and Observatory Friday, Nov. 18, 6–7:30 pm (Adults or students 3rd grade and up, accompanied by a parent) Tour Eastern Michigan University’s brand new planetarium and Sherzer Observatory, led by its director, Norbert Vance. View a display of meteor showers, moons, planets, and constellations. Then enter the Sherzer Observatory for a look at the real sky.
