Read. Learn. Do! ( R E A D E R S 1 2 – U N D E R ) We’re not just reading—there will also be a summer’s worth of fun storytimes and programs that include free crafts, games, movies, and music. Your goal is to spend 900 minutes (15 hours) in reading activities. Everything counts, including audiobooks and listening to or reading aloud to someone else. Earn a prize when you reach the 450-minute mark, and get a free book when you reach 900 minutes. Need help reaching your goal? Come to our storytimes or sign up to read with one of our teen volunteers.
W Seasonal Florals YDL-Whittaker, June 2–August 18 Floral painter Joanne Porter explains why she prefers to work from fresh flowers rather than from photographs: “When I start a painting, I imagine a slight breeze gently moving the petals,” she says. “I then try to capture that movement in my composition. Using many layers of color, my intent is to convey the delicate feel of the flowers and their richness of color.”
