BC GET TOGETHER
BC Get Together was an event designed to celebrate the beginning of semester, and also to promote friendship between BC students. While eating pizza, snacks, and fingerfood, we took survey for the substitute of BC jacket. We did initial game, which is putting nicknames that start with the first alphabet of that person’s name. This game literally made students get to know about each other. Moreover, we did selfie game and gave prize to the person who took the most selfies. BC Get Together surely released the stress of starting school life, and students became friendlier with each other.
Thanks to the Get Together I could meet many people from my major who I didn’t know before. The food was great and I felt that the events were thoroughly prepared, so I was thankful for the BC student council who worked hard for us. I want to thank Luciferin for having the Get Together and taking the effort to prepare many events for us. I will look forward to any further events~

LIGHTHOUSE CAREER
MEETING SEMIFORMAL
Starting from 3/27, BC students had opportunities to meet BC professors every week. The meeting was held on lunchtime of Mondays and Thursdays. For each meeting, maximum 5 students were able to participate, to make sure all the participants get a chance to fully talk with the professor while having lunch or drink. On 5/3, Luciferin, the BC stuco, asked for feedbacks regarding to the semi-formal meeting and we received 6 opinions. Most of the feedbacks were compliments, however, there were some opinions asking for various time for the meetings. Nonetheless, due to professors’ personal reasons, this was difficult to do so. Two BC students gratefully participated in the interviews about the semi-formal meetings.
1. Hello, thank you for participating in the interview. Please briefly introduce yourself. Hi, my name is Jung Yoo majoring in BC. I studied in Thailand for 10 years and I came to Yonsei as a freshman in spring 2016. Hi. My name is Doil Yoon, from BC major. It's been an honor to participate in this interview. 2. Which semi-formal meeting did you participate in? (When, Where, With which professor?)
(Jung Yoo, BC class of 16) (Doil Yoon, BC class of 15)
I participated in the meeting with our new ISED professor Yeong Soo Kim. We met on Monday May 22nd 2017 at Tresbian Cafe under Underwood Memorial Library. I met with him with two other BC students for about an hour before we had our classes. I met professor YoungSu Kim in April 5th at his office. It was a pleasing time.
3. What made you participate in the meeting?
Initially, I wasn't thinking to participate in the meeting but after hearing from other students who met with the professor saying that they actually have gained more idea about what they should do in the future, I decided that it would be beneficial for me to participate in the it as well. The meeting didn't take too much of our time and took place in a friendly atmosphere so I felt that the meeting was a good opportunity for me to get to know more about the professor in person as well. First time, When I heard about semi-formal meeting in BC announcement, I hesitated a lot because meeting with new professor that I didn't learn from made me quite nervous. However, since I've wanted to start my research career about degenerative diseases, I need some realistic advice from the professor who is deeply associated in this field. I've heard that Professor Kim is a expert in Parkinson disease so I've decided to participate in meeting.
4. What did you earn from the meeting? What did you talk about with the professor?
Professor Kim told me what I should do during undergraduates. He told me to experience many things as possible and seek for the stuff that I might be interest in. What I think the most important advice that he gave me was about graduate school. He told me what I should do to shorten the time wasted during the graduate school. Also his research career life story helped me a lot.
Through the meeting, my colleagues and I asked a few questions regarding lab internships and what we should do after we graduate. We learned that many of the students who will be graduating this year are going to graduate schools for further study in the field. The professor told us that if we want to study and become researchers in the field of biology and apply its science to other fields of engineering, it is adviced us to go to graduate schools for masters degree and perhaps more. To get a job in a pharmaceutical companies or any other companies expecting to get a position as a researcher would probably be very difficult because there is a difference in the amount and quality of knowledge between a graduate student and an undergraduate one. So professor adviced us to take the opportunity and continue our study in the field through graduate school.
5. Anything else you want to talk about?
Before hearing advices from the professor, I was confused and unsure about what I should do during summer and the paths for me after I graduate. Although I cannot say I have chosen my definite path, I can say that the meeting has helped me to understand and broaden my perspective of what I can do in the near future. I want to tell many BC students to participate in semi-formal meeting. Having a brief talk with professor in professional field could help a lot, including searching career and academic help.
On April 28th, nine professors from BC and the college of Pharmacy came and explained their research studies during the BC Major Open Lab. It was an opportunity for BC students to get to know what their professors are doing in their labs and to understand lab environments more.
BC MAJOR OPEN LAB APRIL 28TH

Hello, thank you for participating in the interview. Please briefly introduce yourself.
I'm Girim Kim , freshman majoring in ISED who is interested in BC for my future major. (Girim Lim, Freshman ISED) Hello. I am Yuri Kwon, a sophomore student of Bioconvergence. (Yuri Kwon, BC class of 16)
2. What made you participate in this event? I participated in Open Lab Currently taking the program because I want “Industrial Bioto know about which part convergence, I have been listening to lectures of Biology I'm going to related to various types learn when I become sophomore and what kind of researches that of detail part and research professionals of the field can be in Biology area. I are currently doing today. I gained more do not have much knowledge about deepen enthusiasm and was curious of other Biology so want to get researches as well that I information about real research and which kind might have interest in. of materials can be used Then, there was the notice of the open lab from which I learned which was the right event theoretically. to fulfill my curiosity
3. What did you earn from this meeting? I earned that most applied part in Biology is about medical area which need to combine basic approach to Biology and also more applied area of Biology which is related with other subject too. Actually I was interested in zoology and because most of professors research is about medical area, I was worried that I cannot learned much things from the area which I was interested in but when I heard from professor in QnA time that medical part is applied Biology which also need basic Biology, it made me to open the area of part that I can learn something and contribute to my knowledge for my future career.
I came to learn that there were many more fields than I expected and that even though studying the same specific cells, we can derive results in diverse ways. Moreover, after the actual open lab session, I got to speak with one of the professors, Prof. Young Soo Kim, who gave me advice on my questions related to future careers and other
4. Which lab or area are you interested in? Why? (Whose lab was the most interesting one to you?) I was most impressed by professor Youngsoo Kim because I knew from Intro to ISED class that he is in research of Alzheimer disease and I can get more detail information about that Lab. Prof. Young Soo Kim’s lab about chemical neurobiology caught my attention the most as he introduced his research, it was the most related to the field I was interested in. Moreover, I had listened to his lecture in Industrial Bio-
convergence beforehand, where his idea and research seemed as an outstanding approach to Alzheimer’s disease.
5. Anything else you want to talk about? Thank u for good time professors☺ The BC student council has been holding events related to our major and where we can also interact with our professors, which I deeply appreciate about. I hope other BC students and to-be BC students also take this privilege and participate more in future BC events.

Did anything change about what you have thought about professors / students? To be honest, before the party, professors seemed distant. However, I had a chance to talk to the professors, and felt much more “bonded” to them.
