Our services As a York College student, you are eligible for free membership of York St John University Library. Completely refurbished in 2011, Fountains Learning Centre currently houses over 200,000 books and 1,200 journals. Why not come and see what we have?

Photocopying

Members of the public may use the library for reference purposes without prior admission arrangements. However, please note that if you are visiting the Library between 6.30pm and 8.00am you will need to be a Library member.

Photocopying is subject to copyright law – as such, we will need to photocopy your material for you. We can copy limited amounts of material, subject to completion of a copyright declaration form. Prices for copying are as follows:

You can also get an unlimited number of logins to access online resources. The logins are for on-campus use only and last for 24 hours on each occasion.

How do I apply?

You will need to visit us in person at the Service Desk on the ground floor of the library. Please make sure you bring the following:

Proof of identity (e.g. York College student card, passport, driving licence); Proof of address (e.g. utility bill)

How do I borrow? Once you have your York St John Borrowers ID card, you can use the self-issue and returns sorter machines to borrow and return items. Please remember to always bring this ID card with you.

Opening Hours Please remember to carry your York St John Borrowers ID card or your York College student card at all times, as you may be asked to present it to staff, especially during evenings and weekends. The ground floor of the library is open 24 hours a day throughout the year. Opening times can vary for other floors, particularly out of term time – visit www.yorksj. ac.uk/ils/openingtimes for comprehensive details.


Using the library Renewing and placing holds If you wish to place a hold on an item, you will need to locate it on our library catalogue. If all copies are out on loan, you will be able to reserve a copy. If you need any help using our library catalogue, please speak to a member of Library staff.

Please note You will only be able to reserve items where all copies are out on loan. We will notify you by email when it becomes available and it will be held in the self-service holds area (Fountains ground floor) for 7 days.

Each item can be renewed up to 15 times, providing your fines do not exceed £10 and the item does not have any holds. You can renew your item by any of the following methods: • • •

Fines Fines are payable for items returned late. You can continue to borrow if your fines remain below £10. Fines over £10 will prevent borrowing. Fines are charged at the following rate: 28-day loan
