NPS ARCHITECT RENDERING
History Located at the southernmost point of Yosemite National Park, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is the largest of three ancient groves within Yosemite. The grove contains approximately 500 mature Giant Sequoia trees. Being among the rarest, oldest and largest living organisms in the world, Giant Sequoias are truly an iconic species. Early visitors were so inspired by the big trees that in 1864, in the midst of the Civil War, Congress passed landmark legislation to permanently preserve both the Mariposa Grove and Yosemite Valley. yosemitethisyear.com | ysvb@yosemitethisyear.com
Restoration The restoration of Mariposa Grove aims to preserve these majestic trees by balancing visitor needs with ecological protection. Park ecologists, wildlife managers and others are working together to mitigate future impact to the trees, restore the grove's ecosystem, protect wildlife and create an exceptional experience for park visitors. The project will restore Giant Sequoia and associated wetland habitat and restore natural hydrology.

NANCY ROBBINS | CECE CANTON
The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is only four miles from my home, so I consider it in my backyard. For my photographs, there are certain things I look for and I will repeatedly visit places to get to know them. No matter the season, there’s always something happening and changing in the Mariposa Grove, which is true of the entire Yosemite National Park. I kept returning to this particular location in the upper grove to capture the late afternoon sun highlighting the fir tree in the foreground. I found it happened only two days in the summer. yosemitethisyear.com | ysvb@yosemitethisyear.com

Yosemite in a Day
YOSEMITE MUSEUM | VYMC STAFF
We highly recommend spending more time in the park, but …
if you are limited to only one day,
Here Is Our List Of Must-See Highlights Mariposa Grove Located near Wawona, Mariposa Grove is home to several hundred mature Giant Sequoias and is the largest grove in Yosemite.
Glacier Point (open seasonally) Make your way up to Glacier Point via Glacier Point Road. At a whopping 3,000 feet above the valley floor, this grand vista offers a bird's-eye view of Yosemite Valley, massive granite peaks and waterfalls.
Tunnel View View of Bridalveil Fall, Half Dome, Clouds Rest and El Capitan.
Bridalveil Fall From Tunnel View, head towards Yosemite Valley, and you will see a sign for Bridalveil Fall on your right. Enjoy an easy ¼ mile walk to the base of the waterfall (Be prepared to get a little wet in the springtime).
4
LOCAL TIP: Start at the Visitors Center at 40343 Highway 41 in Oakhurst and head north on Highway 41 to Yosemite’s southern entrance.
Yosemite Chapel The Yosemite Chapel is the oldest building still in use in Yosemite Valley. Dating back to 1879, the chapel offers both a history lesson and a spectacular view of Yosemite Falls from its steps. It's also a fantastic location to capture fall photos.
Sentinel Bridge Continue on the road and follow the signs to turn left over Sentinel Bridge. You can park at Shuttle Stop 11. Walk back to the middle of the bridge for the perfect selfie spot featuring a view of Half Dome over the Merced River.
Yosemite Valley (Valley Loop Trail & Yosemite Falls)
Follow the signs for the Day Use parking area. If it is time for lunch, step into the deli for a tasty sandwich. We suggest taking it to-go and making the short walk to Lower Yosemite Falls. There, you can enjoy your lunch while you gaze at the magnificent
2,425 foot waterfall. From the lower fall, head out on the Valley Loop Trail and meander your way through the valley enjoying views of Half Dome, El Capitan and Yosemite Falls from different angles. In addition, enjoy lush meadows, wildflowers and a possible deer or coyote sighting. Looking for an easy way to get around the Valley, hop on the free Yosemite Valley Shuttle. (See Map)
Half Dome Village Work your way back to Half Dome Village to enjoy a tasty fresh-baked pizza on the Pizza Deck. If you’re in the mood for something a bit fancier, hop back on the Yosemite Valley Shuttle and head over to the The Majestic Yosemite Hotel for dinner. If you have a little extra time, stop in at the Ansel Adams Gallery, Indian Museum and the Valley Visitor Center before you depart.

Most notably, Teddy Roosevelt traveled through Raymond on his journey to Yosemite. Explore the Charles Miller Museum and the Raymond General Store. For outdoor recreation, be sure to make a side trip to Eastman Lake for some excellent fishing.
The Oakhurst region has a reputation for housing more artists per capita than anywhere else in the United States and offers a unique cultural experience. In addition, Oakhurst is home to central California's only five-diamond lodging choice and five-star restaurant: Chateau du Sureau and Erna's Elderberry House. AHWAHNEE
Named after an indigenous tribe, Ahwahnee (uh-wah-nee) is a quaint town located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Just a half hour from the southern entrance to Yosemite, Ahwahnee is known for its charming bed-and-breakfast inns located amidst a peaceful mountain setting.

Majestic Mountain Loop SEQUOIA, KINGS CANYON & YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARKS
Visit 3 of California’s National Parks in as little as 3 days! Are you interested in experiencing the best of the national park system? The Majestic Mountain Loop is for you. We've created an itinerary that features three national parks in three days - or longer if you have more time. From Visalia, the first stop along the Majestic Mountain Loop is Sequoia National Park. Explore groves of the largest trees on the planet as you gaze in awe. Sequoia National Park has much more to offer as well, including the Giant Forest SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK | TREV LEE - DN PARKS & RESORTS Museum and Moro Rock. Stay the night, dine and explore around the impressive Wuksachi Lodge. On day two, explore Kings Canyon National Park. With beautiful sites such as Roaring River Falls, Boyden Cavern and Zumwalt Meadow, the diversity of scenery and plant life leaves one amazed at the wonder of this National Park. Finish your journey at Yosemite National Park. Surrounded by scenic wonders at every turn, from Glacier Point to Tunnel View, Wawona Pioneer Village to Yosemite Valley. Yosemite makes the perfect cap to your Majestic Mountain Loop Adventure.
