MOUNTAIN VIEWS, MOHAVE VALLEY, LAKE MEAD
LOCATED LESS THAN A MILEfrom the captivating Colorado River in the Mohave Valley, Ridgeview RV Resort features an open desert setting with views of the mountains. It is directly across the border from Laughlin, Nev., where casinos offer 24-hour gaming, restaurants, and exciting entertainment.
The Ridgeview calendar is never dull, and the resort offers guests a lineup of activities such as craft fairs, dances, dinners, pot lucks, bingo, barbeques, pancake breakfasts, movie night, happy hour, cribbage, pokeno, and wine and cheese parties.
Within the community of Bullhead City, visitors have more entertainment opportunities, including the annual Hardyville Days, which takes place in October. Events range from live programs and craft booths to gunfights and dancing.
The nearby Mohave Valley is a recreational playground with boating, fishing, and water-skiing. Lake Mohave, lined with the steep walls of the Pyramid, Painted, Eldorado and Black canyons, provides a natural habitat for fish and wildlife. Rainbow trout are found at the upper end of the lake, while largemouth and striped bass are taken from the lower reaches of the lake.
Just north of Bullhead City, Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA) offers a wealth of things to do and places to go all through the year. With 1.5 million acres, it is twice the size of Rhode Island. Of America's four desert ecosystems, three meet in Lake Mead NRA: the Mohave, the Great Basin and the Sonoran Deserts. As a result, this seemingly barren area contains a wide variety of plants and animals, some of which may be found nowhere else in the world. 775BULLHEAD PARKWAY BULLHEAD CITY, AZ 86429 (928) 754–2595 ARIZONA/MOUNTAIN TIME

OAK CREEK CANYON, FLAGSTAFF, HISTORIC RUINS
SITUATED ON THE BANKS OFbeautiful Oak Creek in a storybook setting of old cottonwood trees and artesian streams, Sunrise Resorts’ Page Springs is truly a resort for the entire family.
At day’s end, if you don’t want to eat the fish you caught in Oak Creek, you can enjoy fine dining in the restaurant at the entrance to the resort.
A scenic drive in the area that you won’t want to miss is the 54-mile-long stretch of SR 89A between Jerome and Flagstaff. Follow the steep, narrow road through Oak Creek Canyon where unusual rock formations and spectacularly colored trees add interest to the drive. Traveling in vehicles pulling trailers more than 20 feet long is not recommended.
While in Flagstaff, be sure to visit the Riodan State Historic Park, home of the 40-room Riodan Mansion. The early 20th-century building was home to prominent lumbermen Timothy and Michael Riodan and their families. The rustic exterior and lavish interior with hand-crafted furniture and stained-glass windows are an interesting part of the tour.
First settled in 1864 by prospectors, nearby Prescott is a resort community today. In the midst of the Prescott National Forest and surrounded by mountains, visitors can enjoy fishing, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, and rockhounding in the area.
Prehistoric and historic Southwestern Native American pieces, as well as Arizona pioneer artifacts and furniture, are displayed in the Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott.
Ceramics and other artifacts from the Fitzmaurice, King, and Tuzigoot ruins of Yavapai County are on display at the Smoki Museum, also in Prescott. Ceremonials and legends are depicted in the paintings in the museum.

OAK CREEK CANYON, COCONINO NATIONAL FOREST
SURROUNDED BY THE PONDEROSA PINESof the Coconino National Forest, Sunrise Resorts’ Clint’s Well offers cool, clear, mountain air.
This mountain getaway features wildlife right on the grounds of the resort and nearby lakes for water sports. Rolling terrain, mountains, forests, Oak Creek Canyon, and the Mogollon Rim are only some of the attractions to be found in the Coconino National Forest. With an altitude of about 7,000 feet the 1,827,435-acre forest has deep canyons in its southern region and the San Francisco Peaks in the north.
Follow SR89A from Jerome to Flagstaff on a drive through the beautiful cypress, juniper, and pine trees along spectacularly colored red, white, and yellow cliffs in the Oak Creek Canyon. It is not recommended that vehicles pulling trailers more than 20 feet long travel the steep, narrow road.
Skiing is seasonal, but the chairlift is available daily at the Snow Bowl in Flagstaff. The 6,450-foot-long chairlift climbs to 11,500 feet, offering breathtaking views of northern Arizona. Only a hike away, you can also view the Grand Canyon from this vantage point.
A short drive to the west of the resort is the Montezuma Castle National Monument and the ruins of an early cliff dwelling. A limestone sinkhole, Montezuma Well, is a part of the monument. Some of the area ditches dug centuries ago are still used as a source of water. P.O. BOX 19642 HAPPY JACK, AZ 86024 (928) 477–2299 ARIZONA/MOUNTAIN TIME

KARTCHNER CAVERNS, FORT HUACHUCA
LOCATED JUST A FEW MILESnorth of the Mexican border, Quail Ridge RV Resort greets its guests with a “warm welcome” year-round. Temperatures in this open, high desert area are pleasant both winter and summer.
Nature lovers will enjoy a panorama of varied plant and animal life, cactus and paloverde common in the desert area, and fir, juniper, oak, and pine in the mountains of the region.
Travelers interested in electronics and history will want to visit nearby Fort Huachuca, founded in 1877 to combat Native American and outlaw raids. Today, it’s the headquarters of the U.S. Army Signal Command and Intelligence Center. At the Old Post, visitors will see some of the original buildings constructed on the oldest, active surviving cavalry post in the nation. The history of the Southwest is depicted in the Fort Huachuca Museum, with emphasis on the Buffalo Soldier.
A favorite nearby tourist attraction is the town of Bisbee, where mines have produced more that $2 billion in copper, gold, lead, silver, and zinc. Visitors will see an inactive $25 million open-pit copper mine that’s 1.24 miles long, nearly a mile wide, and 950 ft. deep.
The Old West comes alive with a visit to the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park. Daily, there is a reenactment of the Earp-Clanton gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The first cemetery to be called “Boot Hill” contains marked graves of some of the town’s most famous and infamous residents.
Bird watchers will see many different species in this part of Arizona up the side canyons just a few miles from the park. Spring brings desert flowers and summers are green, due to the monsoon season rain that falls during the months of July and August. Kartchner Caverns State Park is located just seven miles north of the RV resort. Reservations are required. This is a live cave and a wonderful thing to see while in Southeastern Arizona.

OLD WEST LEGENDS, COCHISE STRONGHOLD
VISITORS TO THIS SOUTHEASTERNArizona resort enjoy the arid weather at an elevation of 3,500 feet. With the resort’s twin lakes and five artesian springs, relaxation comes almost automatically.
Here in southwestern Arizona is where cowboy lore originated. This is where the Earps and the Clantons shot it out at the OK Corral, and where Geronimo and Cochise stood up to the U.S. Calvary.
This area lives up to Arizona’s Old West legends, and a lot of the Old West can still be seen here. There are ghost towns to be explored and mines to tour. The West’s wildest gunfights are reenacted for the benefit of travelers and many of the old saloons are restored to respectable versions of their celebrated notoriety.
Just a few miles from the resort is Tombstone, the famous frontier town that was made a Registered Historical Landmark in 1962. Here Boothill Cemetery, Bird Cage Theatre, the Courthouse, and the Crystal Palace Saloon are all preserved for the enjoyment of both young and old.
Infamous for its saloons, gambling houses, brawls, and gunfights, it’s often overlooked that this historic mining town was once the most cultivated city in the West, and in its time was a larger and more sophisticated town than San Francisco.
An interesting historic site, the Cochise Stronghold just south of I-10 near Benson, is a natural fortress in the east face of the Dragoon Mountains. These towering lookouts are where Cochise sought refuge from the U.S. Calvary after a raid during the years of the Indian wars.
Known for its spectacular high desert valleys, coniferclad mountains, beautiful canyons, and stark low desert landscapes, the area west of St. David RV Resort is home to the saguaros (cactus) in Saguaro National Monument.
For golfing enthusiasts, the area abounds with golf courses and country clubs.

WHITE MOUNTAINS, TROUT FISHING, APACHE TRAIL
NESTLED IN THE BEAUTIFUL serenity of the White Mountains, Sunrise White Mountain Camperland has a variety of scenarios for its guests.
This peaceful retreat offers hours of enjoyment in the seclusion of the cool mountain air, at nearby mountain lakes for fishing, on miles of adjacent hiking trails, watching the abundant wildlife, and sightseeing at the many nearby attractions.
For year-round entertainment, plan to visit PinetopLakeside, on the edge of the White Mountain Apache Reservation, southeast of Show Low. Because of the elevation, the area is cool in summer for trout fishing, picnicking, and other outdoor activities. In winter, enjoy ice fishing, as well as snowmobiling and skiing on the 100 trails on three mountains. Either season you can visit Hon-Dah Casino, where slot machines, video poker, and keno are offered.
Follow the Apache Trail (SR 88) 29 miles northwest of Globe, to the Theodore Roosevelt Dam and Lake. The world’s highest all-masonry dam was built with thousands of hand-hewn stones and completed in 1910.
To the east of Globe is the Coolidge Dam that creates San Carlos Lake and impounds the waters that irrigate the Casa Grande Valley. Currently under renovation, the multiple dome dam is 250 feet high and 880 feet long at the top. Original construction of the dam was delayed until it was agreed that a concrete slab would cover the Apache Indian burial grounds, thus leaving their tribal cemetery undisturbed.
Just north of Coolidge Dam is San Carlos, a trading center and headquarters for the San Carlos Indian Agency. One of the largest cattle ranches in this area is operated by the Apaches. Some of the best trophy-hunting and fishing in the state is on this reservation.
