PORTFOLIO Yuanting Peng Spring 2018
CONTENT EX. 1 01/16- 01/26 In this project, the group observes similarities and trends in buildings in areas of Downtown Syracuse through their function and materiality, and also studies the differences in buildings’ materiality and context as cultural artifacts to see how the city has shaped them and how they can shape the city.
EX. 2 01/30- 02/20 In this project, we analyze and redesign of Praca das Artes. In this way, we explored how windows and fadade can influence the communication of architecture to its surrounding and its history background.
EX. 3 02/20- 04/20 In this project, the design of this building is on one Walton St in Downtown Syracuse which will house the ‘Archive of the City of Syracuse’. the design process is proceeding first ‘from the outside in’ and then ‘from the inside out’. The design of the whole project focus on the facade's relationship with the context and the windows' possibility.

EX.1 Analytical section drawings are trying to show the relationship between the buildings, public spaces and streets surround them. Through showing the material of different buildings in the same street/ around same public space, it was found that those building are share the similarity of material to a certain degree. Buildings are also closely interacting with the streets and public space around them by their entrances and facades.

Collage of Two Facades
Through the design of Praca das Artes, the architect explore how a complex of building can influence and reshape the context it sited. On the other hand, this architecture program also use the facade of old, already exist buildings to create a new combined facade.

EX.3 The design considers the reflections of the glass and mirror as a way to construct new scenes of the site. The main concepts of the design are experience of different screens and the extending of views. By using the reflection and refraction of mirrors and glasses in constructed angle, it is possible to create “screen in the space to show the part of view that is not visible through direct view.

By using the reflection and refraction of mirrors and glasses in constructed angle, it is possible to create “screen” in the space to show the part of view that is not visible through direct view. Those “screens” is placed next the translucent glass window, to let the occupies experienced the montage of passage from separated space and orientation. This design let the visitors have a sense of experience complicated and reconstructed information of the context around the building(space).

People inside this building can see the Walton street through the glass while have a glimpse of the creek on the other side in same time.

The project is designed to be made of a series of rooms from the inside. One wall of each room is replaced with a Window to make it visually extend. Being impacted by this logic, the organization of program is made from a series of room in different size and height, relating to their usage and privacy.

Mirrors are placed in the orientations to reflecting views of the creek and streets beyond this block. Based on the orientation of the mirror, they visually connect moments that are not typically seen side by side.
