“everything you can imagine is real. pablo picasso

To the reader: mid afternoon i started my walk. it was a warm and sunny day without the slightest hint the weather would change. after a few hours, i climbed the black mountain and was ascending tooth cliff. suddenly the weather changed. the cold wind from the ocean brought a fog, which lay down on the ground, covering everything i could see. the way back would be hard and dangerous, but i had lived here since i was ten, and knew the area so well, i could make it back blindfolded. this time though, the fog was far denser than i had anticipated. the chirps and songs of the birds stopped, silence descended on me, and i ended up in the vacuum of my thoughts. the reason for climbing the cliff was dissolving as rapidly as it was disappearing into the fog. there was no chance at a scenic view, but i continued climbing anyway. when i pushed myself over the edge and onto the rim, i saw, at the very edge, something i would have never expected. a huge silver disc was hovering just beyond the edge, obscured by the fog. maybe someone had set up a new installation on the top of the cliff, but it was hard to tell the size of distance of the disc. i tried to move closer, but the disc always stayed exactly the same distance away. i looked closer as i moved, but the disrupted perception of the object made me dizzy. after fighting off the dizziness and fear of the unknown, i continued moving towards it. the complete silence, the dense suffocating fog, and only a small patch of visible ground beneath me, and huge hypnotizing disc calling for me. i took one more step and it disappeared, leaving me in the middle of nowhere, alone, cold, and puzzled. i wish i could see it again. i wish i could touch it...

hello! i’m an illustrator, cartoonist and printmaker based in new jersey with a love of extremely bright colors and cautionary endings. i like crafting stories of how and why things have come to be, as well as giving my eclectic crew of characters a common, whimsical universe to inhabit. the themes that typically appear in my stories are obstacles getting in the way of the inability to get what you want/need, loneliness, the fantastical and unrequited sentiments. alexandra beguez

creative process: “i often think of my creative process as two parts. it starts as spontaneous drawings. i draw whatever i have in my mind first, based on the concept of the project. this is more like doodling. after doing so for a while, i start looking at the drawing as a design. that means that i digest the drawing, simplify it, exaggerate, add things and so on. this second part of the process is carefully calculated and time consuming, compared to the spontaneous first part. at the same time, these two process are important to each other. if one is incomplete, then i will not be satisfied with the result of the design at the end. everything i design goes through these phases, and i do enjoy both parts of the process in different ways.”

i started taking pictures long ago, but after moving to new york city i became more of an urban photographer. i never stop exploring this amazing city through my lenses. when taking pictures of a city you will surely have some graffiti shots as graffiti is the most urban kind of art. i love graffiti because it changes so quickly and i can capture the motion of the city, and the life of the city, through these changes. andriy prokopenko

my oil paintings revolve around our modern technological world. though the subjects i choose are familiar, i capture the qualities of them that are often overlooked. my process is to take pictures with my phone, and sift through them, finding the ones that both distill the essential elements of my subjects and disorients the viewer. they are then hand painted on canvas in oil. presented here are four different series: arcade; cinema; coaster; and car. david layton
