“Everything you can imagine is real.” Pablo Picasso

To the reader: Despite how my coworkers ribbed me with “count the sheep”, it was 3 am and I was lying in bed, eyes wide open. As usual these days. For some people it sounded like a joke, but for me it was third night in a row where I couldn’t even close my eyes. I’d had double dose of those herbal pills but the only thing on my mind were the stories and cartoons that I’d watched this evening. Cartoons start off as a great way to spend those sleepless nights, retreating to a land of childish delight. But eventually even most entertaining routine becomes annoying. All I could think about was how much I can actually want to sleep, ok, not like want want to sleep but rather need need to sleep. I swear I am going to collapse into a coma if I don’t sleep soon. My eyes were haunted and my brain felt cold and heavy, wanting nothing more than to slide out of the cage we call a skull. While my thoughts were flying away to the elsewhere we go when daydreaming, I started to whistle a favorite song from my childhood: Din don, may be on the floor, din don, may be on the porch, din don, find a singing bird…. Suddenly from under my bed I heard voices singing with me: Din don, find a singing bird, din don, may be under bed,… I bent over the edge of the bed, peering into the shadows beneath and saw a line of bananas holding hands and dancing, walking and singing. To my sleep deprived brain, it was beautiful, nostalgic, just like the old cartoons I used to watch as a child on Saturday morning with bowl of cereal and my favorite pajamas. “Din don, we found the bird, din don, din don, din don…” The bananas, ecstatic with joy, ran around me and kept singing and singing and singing till I joined them. Dancing and singing with the bananas, I felt warm, cozy and tired. My eyes eventually just closed themselves. When I woke up the next morning, I found myself in bed with dozens of bananas. “Probably just sleep walking.” I told myself. As I got up, I realized I felt well rested and happy, like never before in my life. by Zan Gato

Sammy Slabbinck (1977 Belgium) renders dynamic collage prints & original paper collages, combining found imagery with contemporary compositional styles. The images are cut up into pieces and redistributed, playing with exaggeration and proportions.Other times, the images are placed in a reverse context, juxtaposing modern ideals with traditional states of mind. His eye for muted tones and surreal compositions make his work engaging, memorable and sometimes humorous. He offers both digital prints & original hand cut collages on paper. Lately stop motion animation (Vine & Instagram) has become a new challenge. Making surprising personal work & brand advertising.

SAWA Personal Work 2013-2014
My name is Patryk Hardziej and I am an illustrator as well as a graphic designer. I live and work in Tricity (Poland), yet I am active internationally. I handle projects dealing with illustration, branding, logo design, visual communication, editorial graphics and art projects, as well. In particular, I am fond of combining in different proportions technical aspects of graphic design with illustration. I am old graphic signs lover and I am highly interested in their history. Besides, I am the man behind Oldschool Logo and Polish Graphic Signs projects. Together with Patrycja Podkošcielny we operate in a graphic tandem and run The Negation Studio. I am keen to enter into collaboration with both individual clients and agencies.

Estrella Vega is an artist based in New York. Born in France, her work is heavily inspired by the japanese cartoons and “bande dessinée” she grew up with. As such, her art has bright flat colors and heavy lines which complements her preferred medium, silkscreen.
Having an interest in nature and science, a lot of her work features these themes. When she deviates from these subjects and draws humans, her focus is on interaction between people. You can see her work at : www.estrellavega.com
