MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT How to measure a Croissant? The first step is photo taking. On the photo stage provided by Fab Lab, it is really easy to have some decent photos. Secondly, the croissant was cut and scaned. With the tracing paper laying on top of the photo, I can use penciels to trace the images. I applied hatching along the cracks and some shading in the middle of the cut sections.

NEW MARIO WORLD

The making of new Mario world. For my origional Mario world, what I see are some mountaions with snow caps, a paradise floting in the clouds. Since there are too many mountains, the hidden space between two drawings is really narrow. As a result, I decided to add a second level. The idea came fron the movie Avatar. In the world of Pandora, there are islands floting in the sky. To suit the theme of my world, I alter the island to a iceberg, a place where Mario could skating freely without any boundary.

My drawings tools. Getting my drawing tools ready

My first drawing. It took me a long time to learn how to draw correctly. To be more precise, the image and the tracing paper were taped on the table.

Combined world. After I combined two worlds together, the hidden space started to emerge. Starting to add details.

My combined drawing.

PAPER LANDSCAPE

The making of new landscape The paper model I have create is a terrain which is pretty low at one end and the hight gradually builds up. To achieve the different hight, I set 10 attactive curves and 4 attactive points. Moreover, I made 4 different models with rhion and use pt custom veriable to apply them onto my terrain. The patterns are pretty clear from the top vew. There are some triangles with large opening placed around the courner of the terrain and some sharp triangles in the middle. I’m really happy with the outcome since the model actually looks quite nice in a distance.

The near-end is lower than the far-end.

Original terrain. I found that with this terrain, some place could be higher, some could be lower.

Test Version 2. Place 2 crossed attractor curves in the middle of the surface

Test version 1. Place 4 attractor curves around the edges.

Test version 3. Place 4 attractor points on each courner of the surface.

detailed photo. Final Version. Insert 20-30words to describe the process

Unrolled modules. Use numbers to make sure they can be placed correctly.

INVISIBLE CITY

Despina The city I got is a ctity built between a desert and a sea. This old quad is like a lounge where people could relax after the traveling. Marcopolo went into this old quad and found a group of ladies are dancing, which gave him a light mood. However, at the other end of this old quad, when he saw smoe salior are hitting each other on the head, he felt really upset. What I’m traying to show is the change of mood, through the change of scene. Looking at the city, it is peaceful. Looking at the sea, it is compelely different.

REFLECTION Throuht the course, I have learned a wide range of things from lectures, studios, and workshops. Most of those things are new to me, thererfore to master them, it is quite challangeing. For example, I found the use of Rhino really delight. Rhino always suprise me by showing how far it can go. In addition, photoshop, illustrator and indesign help me to alter the image and formatting them better. I have to admit that Module 2 is not successful, the reasons are as follows. To begin with, I forgot to preserve the layors therefore when I realise the line weight is not correct, I’m not able to change them. Secondly, I could spend more time on planning, creat more room betweent the mountains and add more element in the hidden space. Lastly, I should pay more attention on the colour. I was trying to balance the whole image by combine worm colour and cold colour. However, it turns out terrible. In a word, I’m overall satisfyed with my works and I’m sure of those skill and knowledge I have learnt are useful for my futher study.
