MLA Thesis Topic - Experiential Landscape Architecture I insist that landscape architects are landscape artists. But most of the art works is expressional art instead of experiential. Learn from land art, I would like to design a space let people experience it, and make people get connected emotionally. Bachelor of Art, Product Design East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, China 2012 - 2008 I learn most from product is “less is more,” as a connection it helps me design some outdoor furniture for landscape architecture, and also gives me a better understanding for the relation between users, product, and space.

Year - 2015 Spring Location - Atlanta, GA Committee - Paul Russell, Martin Holland, Hyejung Chang At the location of intersection of Park Drive Bridge and Beltline, the site provides a unique opportunity for an area specific intergration. The objective of this project is to create a space that provide people different experience in different season by making use of the plant value. Unlike an expressional landscape architecture, this design focuses on context oriented which is a real experiential art work. Additionally, connectivity from neighborhoods to downtown Atlanta will be increased.

02 FEED + SEED Year - 2014 Fall Location - Greenville, SC Collaborators - Sarah Stumpo, Brianne Burdy The abandonded Feed and Seed building is on the outskirt of downtown Greenville, and also at the extention of Swamp Rabbit Trail, a multi-use greenway system that runs along the Reedy River connecting Greenville County. The design goal is by creating positive synergy between bicycle transportation and healthy eating choices through the design solution. The Feed + Seed will become a destination, not only a stop, by connecting healthy eating and conveniant exercise solutions to enhance lifestyle choices in the community.
KEY CONCEPT
Green Tunnel
The Feed + Seed is right at the expansion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, which provides a great opportunity to intergrate bicycle transportation with urban farm. It offers health, environment and economic benefits while also contributing to the community involvement.
STR ATE G Y F RA M E WOR K Pathway Strategy: Curve the pathway for cyclists along different program.
Entrance Strategy: More entrance from Swamp Rabbit Trail to Feed + Seed Farm.
Hierarchy Strategy: Two vibrant public space in 5.5 acre farm.
Our design intergrates the landscape architecture and architecture, and solves the food crisis problem in the upstate of South Carolina in en educational way. The Feed + Seed building will be complexity functional, mainly works as a grocery store and Cafe. 5.5-acre farm on the back of the building will provide local farmers and students examples of different farming method.

03 THE PINES Year - 2013 Fall Location - Columbia, SC Advisor - Mary Beth Mccubbin As the area has grown and changed, the focus of Sandhill REC has also evolved to better meet the needs of the community. As part of a commitment to the local community, the University has allowed public access to the site for daily recreation activities as well as special events—including fairs, markets, and sporting events. Building on the historic farm landscape and the history of research on the site, this system provides a variety of experiences through experimental pine plantations and orchards, wetlands, riparian and lake ecosystems. New sensory gardens have been suggested, the play area renewed and enlarged, and sculpture integrated into the landscape to attract more people and encourage them to stay for longer periods. 04 CITY GRID Year - 2014 Spring Location - Muttrah, Oman Muttrah, located near the ocean, is a well-developed city in Oman, it has a density and organic urban form. In this project, the site is much more empty and undeveloped. The urban design here will be consistent with the downtown area but more sustainable for the environment and economy. A greenbelt will be built in this interconnected design. The goal is to protect natural and semi-natural environments, improve air quality within urban areas, ensure that urban dwellers have access to countryside, with consequent educational and recreational opportunities, and protect the unique character of rural communities that might otherwise be absorbed by expanding suburbs.

05 EXPECT Year - 2013 Fall Location - Clemson, SC Jardin De Lee Trois is a field with ten existing trident maple trees. The objective of this project is to make use of this field , and design it for a temporary garden for Clemson University Architecture Department’s 100 year festival. Construction documentation and model is required. My concept is “expect”. Rotated pieces are composed as a curve, from the new building (LEE-3) to the old ones (Lee2 and Lee1). There is a hole in every pieces, and the holes make up a straight line. The objective of my design, is to provide a space for people to experience: when you see through all the roated pieces, what you expect and what you real see.
E X P E C T: R o t a t e d p i e c e s s h o w t h e m o v e m e n t a n d f o r m a p a t h w a y. And what we expect from the window of all the pieces?
06 PRODUCT DESIGN Year - 2008-2012 Location - Shanghai, China My undergraduate major is product design. I get the Bachelor of Art in Shanghai, China. Wood is my favorite material during the process of design. What I learn most from product design is “experience. I insist no matter product designers or landscape architects, we are both artists. How can we design an object or space to make people connected emotionally, that is what I struggle with during these seven years. Product design also helps me design some ourdoor furniture for landscape architecture, and give me a better understanding for the three dimension space.

07 OVERALL IMAGE DESIGN FOR ART WORKS IN PENDLETON Year - 2014 Spring Location - Pendleton, SC The guiding principle of “Art Works” is at the center of everything we do at the NEA. “Art Works” refers to three things: the works of art themselves, the ways art works on audiences, and the fact that art is work for the artists and arts professionals who make up the field. Art Works for Pendleton is sponspored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the activity celebrate a vision of the Village Green, Pendleton community members are teaming with Clemson University to install a temporary look at changes that are proposed for Pendleton’s town square.
