Concept
Considering I have a bachelor’s degree in Interior design (space) and now I’m working in graphic design (form), I believe that design is the combination of “space” and “form.” Showing people what I have in my hands and telling a story of who I am is the general idea of this portfolio book. From a freshman in the graphic design field to becoming a professional graphic designer, I want to present all my work and use my talent to create a form and space which could make my audiences understand where my passion comes from and how that passion affects my work.

Objective This project shows a vision for John Woo’s movies collected within a film festival. “When truth is blurred, we must trust ourselves and protect who we love.” Since John Woo is my favorite Asian movie director, it was easy to choose him as subject of my “movie festival.” The entire project uses a black and white mood to characterize his film style. An identity system was designed for John Woo’s movie festival, and I also built an event guidebook and several promotional items.

Objective The Letter, is the best friend of a graphic designer. Since I came without a graphic design background, the “Type forms� class was the first type class in my life. This is the first time I had a clue about how to set type in my work. At the same time, what I learned from this class makes me want to learn more about type. In this basic class, the project I did told me how important type was, and it could be perfect just by itself. Type class is a door that let me jump into the world of graphic design and suddenly made the world was more interesting.

Objective “The other me in the world”, the project is designed to choose a sub-culture, which I like it most: cosplay. The inspiration comes from the Japanese cartoon and the cherry bloom event in San Francisco. I was doing the research and interviewing a couple of cosplayers from cosplay event. After interview, I found the reason why people are interesting in cosplay, because they want to be another person and want to show themselves in a different way. They hide the passion and energy in their life because they are afraid of facing the real life. As a result, the cosplay show will give them a chance to show the inside of their hearts.

Objective With the brand’s new mission, I wanted to develop the young consumer’s self-image. The brand will include a range of products and services designed for customer’s life. As a new born brand, Garan needed to help young customer grow up in today’s complex world, also, because part of the profits go to charities, young people can helping others less fortunate. Objective We see the world through our eyes every day, experiences nature in all its colors. However, people have different point of view even their eyes focus on the same object before them. This is the idea behind a book I designed for an experiment type of class, entitled, “A Designer’s Vision”. The book represents the visual difference between designers and non-designers, identifying how a professional focus can make the world beautiful. Even we see the same world, we also have to find a “focus” which helps us explore the world better.

Objective This packaging project was about creating a First Aid Kit for a special group of people. The special people I chose to design for are the practitioners of parkour. They train for a discipline of movement and holistic well-being. The simplest way to visualize parkour is to see it as a kind of street gymnastics. While this may describe the closely related activity of free running, it misses the practical philosophy of parkour which is to get from one point to the next in an artful and economical way. The First Aid Kit includes a carry-on canvas bag which a parkour trainer can bring with them. There is also a wood box for training facilities contain more medical items

Objective To extend a new product line and still keep the heart of a brand’s that is a challenge. However, it is possible to expand a brand to an entirely different market. This helps the original brand get a more diverse audience and increase sales. This is the main goal of what I did for this project while in a package design class. “Stay young forever” is the main concept of the fashion brand Forever 21. I continued the main idea of the brand and created a new product line of bottle water. The water is called “Forever water”. People want to stay young forever to keep energetic, beautiful and filled with life, I represented the meaning as a graphic element, blooming flowers. They appear on each bottle, reminding the consumer that water brings and renews life.

Objective Designing a poster has never been this fun! In this project, I have been asked to design a poster using a method, developed there were before computers. I shot the photos in class and worked with an old projector. The interesting part of this project was that it let me see the elements directly not through a monitor and manipulate with them with my hands. The poster theme is based upon a Chinese traditional song but it is performed by a pop group. It makes the song have both classic and modern dimensions to design a layered poster for it.
