We are always pursuing a richer life experience, using those short-term and deliberate happiness to prove that we know how to enjoy the life, ignoring the fact that our feelings come from the biggest part of life — our daily life.

In this book, I would like to talk about something that actually exists but hides in our daily life. They’re extremely small,neglected, but play an important role in enriching our feelings. I call them : obscure existence.

01 .

The story of a moment

This picture is a masterpiece of photographer Henri CartierBresson.In Bresson’s photo,he applied “The decisive moment” to his photographic style. It’s produced by intuitiveness and forecast.

Life is influent,you can't tell the person do that gesture again. Once you miss it,it is gone forever. To Bresson,decisive moment is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms which give that event its proper expression.

It occurred to me that there must be some conditions,which can let the space broke away from the moment and revealed it’s proper expression. So I started thinking,can architecture also achieve the effect of decisive moment?

The decisive moment of architecture happens when you layering your senses. I hope to design a tea house for people to travel the life of tea.

From the moment of stepping into the door, people will feel different senses sequentially by passing through different spaces. In each space, people will get some information through different senses, and finally know the complete story of tea life.

First we feel the water through the sense of touch, and then understand the history of the place of origin. Walking through the long steps, we can see the fog on the windows, feel the fog on our bodies, and understand the environment of the place of production. Understand the special growth process through the light passing through the covering net, and understand the production process by feeling the hot steam from the factory.Finally, through the light coming in from the skylight learned the moment of tea tasting.

The use of different colors in each space suggests the moment of switching senses. I let people feel the superposition of senses at every corner, and put all senses at once under the middle tower.

Through sensory information penetrating in from five directions, the moment when people step into the tower and receive information is the decisive moment of this building.

Site

Wazuka is a very famous as the main production site of Uji green tea. More than thousand years ago, this area was under the lake, so the soil have a lot of mineral. And becouse of the mountain landscape, especially in the morning, in spring there have so many fog. The fog is also important to produce sweeter taste of tea.

The patio architecture

The word Xiaozhenxing is often seen in our lives,and it is even widely abused in commercial advertisements. It actually comes from the book of Haruki Murakami, which means small and reliable sense of well-being. A stricter definition is " In a limited situation,the pursuit of present,immediate,sincere,comf ortable and pleasant feeling.

In my experience, the patio of traditional street houses is just like a しょうかっこう . When I was shopping for daily necessities in Dadaocheng, the traditional storefronts were vary familiar. But when a small patio space suddenly appeared in the middle of the traditional storefront, it somehow changing the overall atmosphere. It is real existence, but you won't know until you walk in. And it exists because of the constraints of the shape of the house.

And I start to think, how if I make a patio architecture?

Something that actually exists but hides in our daily life,it's extremely small,neglected, but play an important role in enriching our feelings.

Based on this, I want to design a patio building. Through this building, the patio will no longer be just a small architectural element that introduces sunlight. It can break the boundaries and create a mutually beneficial and symbiotic building system in the old building without compromising privacy and commercial.

Under these conditions, whether it is for patio architecture or old buildings, it is a small lucky existence. The placement of new building will bring more business opportunities and space to the old buildings,and the old buildings give the new building a chance to has an unexpected spatial experience and also be a obscure existence.

The patio architecture will be hidden in the old street houses, and only when you walk in will you find its existence and find a new space.

SiteDa-dao-cheng is an old community in Taipei City's. It’s an important place to buy traditional food supplies, ingredients and daily necessities. Be comprised of historical buildings and unique traditional street houses, the space of commercial and living are all long and narrow. My site is a block consist of 17 street house with defferent kind of patio.

The shops in the old traditional street houses are very common. The location of each patio in this base is irregular so that I have more spatial possibilities. I try to draw their ranges to understand my base limits.

Through the site analysis and actual visits, I listed the location, type of each patio and unused space of the old buildings.

期間限定

This picture was taken by myself. This is a face I drew in a makeup store with different makeup tools on the back of my hand. As is known to me, there’s nobody would say it’s a real face right? However, the face had detection succeeded in the portrait mode of the mobile phone! The shape was recognized as a real people’s face through the lens.This special experience has greatly contributed to let me think about what kind of activity happened only at certain times under the restriction of some conditions.

Notation

I hope to design a field that includes various fish-related activities. At different times, due to the different tide levels caused by the gravity of the moon, the usable space will be different.

In my design, each activity is time-limited,it is called 期間限定 .

When the sea water rises with time, the space for catching fish will be submerged first, but only then can the space for cooking fish see the fish in the water through the glass.

When the sea water continues to rise, fish begin to swim in the passage through the building, and people can fish in the building. When the water reaches the high tide level, part of the walkway has been submerged, but people can start fishing.

The usage time of each space is affected by the tide level, so activities can only happen at certain times. But don't worry, the tide level will loop infinitely.

My site is located at Nanliao Fishing Port in Hsinchu. There are a lot of fishing boats docked there. I want my design to look like a boat floating on the sea when the tide is at high level.

When the water reaches the high tide level, part of the walkway has been submerged, but people can start fishing. And don't worry, the tide level will loop infinitely.

Site

Nanliao Harbor along Taiwan's west coast in Hsnichu City. It is a popular location for its seafood, kite flying, and ocean scenery. There is also a long sandy intertidal area nearby. The tidal range can reach 3.5m high. Because of silting many times, currently the main purpose of the harbor is to dock fishing vessels.On weekends you can also find many people fishinging here.

Own little world

“Perception is merely a lens or mindset from which we view people, events, and things.” In other words, we believe what we perceive to be accurate, and we create our own realities based on those perceptions.

What create own little world ?

Actually,this world is not always flat and open,there is light and darkness. Closed let people feel private. Nowadays, closed spaces are almost nonexistent.But this kind of little world is still preserved under the umbrella. I started to think what kind of circumstance could also achieve the effect of own little world.

I find out,when there are many people,noisy,open area and people stay there won’t be gaze at will create own little world. And these places might be recurring,higher.

But when will people want or need their own little world?

Imagine there is a businessmen that is shopping down the street. Suddenly his phone rings and it’s a call from his client. Or maybe when you just get a cup of hot coffee and want to savor it carefully. At this time, the place where you will choose to stay is your own little world.

I try to make the landscape consist of circular plaza of different sizes, and try to create different relationships between them. And then, the own little world shows up.

In my design, people start looking for a small world hidden in the crowd, that will be the most private and comfortable place here.

This road is located between A9 and A11 in Xinyi District. There are often a large number of consumers here, and it is very difficult for you to find a corner with a little privacy. During some festivals, decorations will be placed here, and there will usually be some temporary exhibitions.

Site

My site is located between A9 and A11 in Xinyi District. This is an important entertainment and consumption place for Taipei people. It is always full of people on holidays and weekday evenings. I try to create some ups and downs in these large and small circular plaza, and imagine how people will define the own little world when they use it.

When this field is placed with decorations, it can create a own little world more strongly. Based on the characteristics of small fields made of pillars, planting can also achieve good results.
