WEEK 3 READING: TITLE OF READING

MARIO’S WORLD

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) Pictorial Space is the space can not be accessed or circulated through physically and is irreversible and eternal room which only allow investigation from a distance. There is a sense of interaction and inter-dependence within the space that can be comprehended by different views in various angles or distance , which contributes to the inference to the real. Moreover, although it is limited by the lack of interaction with or views to the space directly, it shows a insistent continuity of space by a kind of flatness.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) Colour and texture are two properties attributed with the Flatness of his painting. Firstly, his refusal of reliance to the use of black creates a sort of continuious extension fusing into the space without using black to show the shadows. Secondly, textual integers defines the objects and mutually demonstrate and show the relationship whith others. These are pitted against the common method of using black to depict depth and shadow to create space.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words) The Pictoral space is mainly been perceived in a perspective view individually which means that it can only been seen in a single point of view. Moreover, a sense of three dimension is created by the use of vanishing points, which enhance the reality. On the other hand, without vanishing points, projection, comprised of parallel lines, allow the perspective to be expanded to the infinity, which leads to a more general perception of the space.

The Final Illustrated Mario World

This final version is finished by firstly tracing the pen drawing in illustrator in pen tool, secondly colouring and applying shading to it. The new world developed from those two elevation is aming to create a sense of interests in space and forms while keeping the theme whithin the Mario world. For instance, all the colour are selected from the origianl ones and slightly changed. Also, in terms of accuracy, the view seen form

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words)

the front (bottom right) and the back (top left) should be the same as the two elevation plans. However, the concept of shapes and forms

Axonometric projection first arose and was introducted in the realm of military to study the dimensional trajectories of artillery projectiles. Later on, in 20th century, it is considered as a ideal tool by artiests of avant-garde in order to interpret and conceive the new world in a different and advanced way for its capacity of demonstrating the abstract information and being measured precisely.

are celebrated by the variety of the geometric changes of the green ‘mountains‘ and ziggurate forms and also the insistent continuity shown by the waterflow and underground water. Furthermore, a sense of depth is shown by the shadow and complicated composition.
