LIFE PERFORMANCE | 2018

PERSONAL ROLE: individual master thesis work DESCRIPTION: The initial concept of the project is my statement that a space is a result of interaction between outside contexts and inside performance, where context and live performance are programming space as well as its physical and emotional qualities. There are two levels of architectural purpose. First is a physical necessity of shelter that forms by function and programmatic feature. Second is psychological level that can offer high quality of life with possibility to engage and stimulate perceptional experience. 21st century characterized by constant increasing of human mobility around the globe. Nowadays, people feel free to change their location with different purpose such as traveling, international education and temporary or permanent employment. According to research released by “Vienna Institute of Demography”, 244 million people (it is around 3.3% of world population) are living outside their country of birth. In the context of this trend, the global labor market reacting by emerging new niche of mobile workers (global or digital nomads). Those people are moving around the globe with a small luggage and staying on place for period from few months up to one year. In this case, the process of integration becomes challenging. Adaptation is very personal process that takes from one to two months that is relatively big fraction when we considering living from one to six months. This project aims to develop a new type of collective living for emerging “global nomad” community based on principles of sharing goods as well as healthy and responsible interpersonal relationships.

CONTEXT

FIRST PHASE In the first phase of the project, I have been working on the task of creating atmospheric scene guiding by chosen type of window and the word “EXPOSE”. In this task, I focused on an iconic image of temporary living to rethink its standards and try to look beyond existing concept. The idea was to create a vivid image or even cliché of temporary living like a motel room, to highlight juxtaposition of the existing stereotype and my proposal in the next phase of studio project. The idea of the picture is to transform impression of the specific type of window in to a shadow condition that is provoked by the window. The window is considered as a tool to create an atmosphere.

EXPOSE

ROADSIDE HOTEL (narrative) Darkness. The room. Overnight place for the lonely bodies during a road trip through West Texas. Nobody stopped here for a long time. Dirty glass with caramelized whiskey on the windowsill is the only reminder of the last guest. Excessive darkness penetrates through the entire room. Neon light from the blinking motel sign breaks through the half closed blinds leaving colorful stripes of light on the faded wall. Pink, blue, yellow lights are mixing and alternating in this rhythmic symphony. Suddenly the whole room is filled with bright white light of just parked car in front of the window. The silhouette of the coming person imprinting on the back wall of the room transforms gradually from a blurred large spot to typical male outline. Car light turns off [The machine blocks the light from sign] The sound of the key in the keyhole is heard. The door opens with a barely visible silhouette uncertainly trying to find how to turn light on. LIGHT.

Another crucial principle that was applied in order to create friendly environment and build trust between users is reusing and sharing of goods and services. There are significant environmental and social benefits to reuse and share existing goods to reduce production of new ones. For instance, public library and secondhand furniture shop are operated in a way to bring financial and social benefit to the community and their visitors. By the concept, inhabitants are bringing to the shop nice pieces of furniture, electronics, books etc. that citizens are leaving on streets. Inhabitants are free to choose and lend any item from the shop or storage for using it in private or common areas until their checkout from the building. At the same time, visitors can buy any item in the shop to bring financial benefit to the community for covering operation cost of the building.

WAITING (narrative) She was late, my shared table was getting too crowded. I moved to a sofa, luckily it is empty. The sofa recently arrived, soft and cozy, I guess from 70-s. I like it. She might forgot about our meeting. Her new job is assisting shared AR experiences might be so intriguing! I will send her a text. The sofa is a good observation point. The entrance just in front of me, a french couple, two programmers working on convertible table for navigation maps (where did they find it?), an old man having eggs next the window and a young spanish - he might be an art director. A couple of guys dragging a sofa into the room 27, I know their father quite long time. They live here probably from the opening of this place, we play tennis with their father. “Hey Petr, Nic!. Say hi to your dad! I went to the music machine to change to some Duke Ellington jazz. On my way I noticed a woman, (probably it is she) I have never seen her before. She was so elegant, coming somewhere from South. Her shining dark skin reflected the sunlight. She looked at me...

SENSE OF BELONGING One of the most important and natural needs of human is aspiration to belong to a group of people or community. Stimulation of sense of belonging requires programming of spatial situations that are familiar to a user (that make user feel home) and designing “activity nodes where users can interact (that simulates sense of belonging). By analysis of different life situation, the project involves adaptation of a set of design principles:

29.3m 29.3m

- all interaction nodes are indicated by circled shapes that are encouraging face-to-face interaction between users. For instance, niches on a narrow semiprivate staircase that encourage users to give a favor to oncominWg person by letting him pass. - alcoves for interaction in small groups. - watcher point for visual interaction with street and courtyard.

MATERIALITY The issue of materiality deserves special attention. In order to bring certain level of mysteriousness and uniqueness of the building I have developed the set of materials and textures that where applied to the project. The concept of materiality based on the fact that such perimeter block is a part of established urban fabric. This fact allows me make an assumption that the perimeter block is placed on the plot where another building or urban development have been located. The materials that have been developed for the project are based on demolition leftovers of previous building such as copper and aluminum pipes, wires, bricks glass atc.

FIRST LIGHTS (narrative) Early-morning illumination changes the Hive into the House of the rising sun. Light falling on the floor and reflecting upon the walls that reveals a colorful mosaic of trapped materials in to the concrete. It is the calmest time of the day and there are only few evidences giving a hint of what could have been happening the evening before. Chess pieces around the board are telling a story about an unfinished game; furniture placement, which changes its pattern every day, reveals long, night discussions; rockets and a ball sloppily left around the table after a quick game. Many small objects scattered around the Hive stairs talk about how lively is this place – the heart of the building. The calmness does n’t last long. Gradually, more sounds are coming out of different floors – whiz of the coffee machine, splashes of water in a shower, rustle of the newspaper... The Hive is awakening.

OF SPACE AND TIME | SÃO PAULO | BRAZIL | 2016 TEAM: Goncharenko Iurii & Stefan Amann gy, and society. A variety of short-term and step-by-step interventions can provide solutions for people’s needs and address greater issues (such as public spaces, green spaces, long commuting times, and traffic issues). Solving these problems can involve existing structures while simultaneously avoiding the creation of new borders and segregation. The starting point of this project is dealing with commute time. Paulistanos spend on average one month per year in a private or public transportation vehicle.a By proposing area for flexible and shared working spaces where people can also live, this will shorten average commuting times. In addition, the design proposal also calls for an new regional public transportation mode to provide residents with a variety of options in commuting alternatives. A set of small interventions with flexible structures will transform the site over time into a hyper mixed urban structure.

PERSONAL ROLE: Concept development, 3Dmodeling, visualization, drawings, diagrams. DESCRIPTION: São Paulo is an engine of one of the fastest growing economic countries in the world and the most economically developing city in South America. This situation has engendered a rise in population. However, there will also be an increase in the city’s already existing traffic problem. New strategies in sharing, working, housing, and mobility reveal how existing and emerging problems can be solved in a growing city like São Paulo. Our vision is based on recent trends that confirm a opportunity to provide flexibility to São Paulo’s economy. In present-day São Paulo, the urban development approach has to change to become more sensitive. The top-down urban planning approach cannot deal with the fast changes in mobility, technolo-

The project defines a new way of working spaces, shared spaces, and mixed spaces. People will work next to where they live, so they do not have to spend several hours commuting. These range of working and living spaces will offer variety of interiors and facilities for different professions and students. There are office like working spaces, for professions who just need a computer. Printers and plotters can used by everyone, as well as tea kitchens / cafeterias, and other facilities. This concept also provides workshops and other facilities for different professions. This makes it also easier for interdisciplinary projects to share the same facilities during these kinds of projects. With our project, people will not only have more time, because they don’t have to commute, they also will mix with a lot of other people from other companies, professions and social classes.

A strategic plan is a new tool in urban planning to give more flexibility to the site and to create an urban environment according to people’s need. In our case, it is an x-ray plan through time. The plan shows how the plot could develop with changing footprints of buildings, roads, and mobility in the next 33 years. It also indicates the location of our four defined interventions in 2017, 2019, 2025, and 2050

Developing countries like Brazil will be a testing ground for future transportation systems. Traveling on long distances between cities is converting more and more to rail-based transportation modes like Hyperloop. In the future, in-city distances will be traveled with shared self-driving pods of different sizes, from one-seaters to small buses. An interconnected public transportation system with metro, monorails, and railways will also cover in-city transportation as well as Helicopters and self-flying pods. Short distances will be covered mainly by foot and non-motorised vehicles.

In 2017, the wholesale market is still operating in Vila Leopoldina. Our first intervention occupies the CEAGESP clock tower as a platform for public negotiation. A long path built out of scaffolding leads to different observation points, which overlooks the area from different levels on the path. The platform has a good view over the wholesale market and the whole project site. This Intervention will stay throughout the relocation of the market to make people aware and show them that something new is coming in this spot. Public interventions, such as a library, a cinema, or a stage, will appear over the next few years and provide activities and events for the public.

In 2025, the existing buildings will be converted and extended. Housing will emerge next to working and public spaces in a variety of forms, from staying for one night to several month or years. The biggest part of the housing will consist of co-living with shared common rooms as well as shared kitchen and bathrooms. Working, living, public, and semi-public spaces will start to overlap. New streets, bus lanes, and bicycling lanes will create a new kind of urbanity. This intervention is an example of how the existing buildings can be transformed into working, housing, and public spaces.

ISET PARK | YEKATERINBURG | RUSSIA | 2017 TEAM: Pero Puljiz, Vladimir Sergeev, Goncharenko Iurii (de Architekten Cie) PERSONAL ROLE: Concept development, 3Dmodeling, visualization, diagrams. DESCRIPTION: This project is a competition entry of a new generation of residential complexes in the Yekaterinburg city. Two urban blocks are organized around central green courts which are defined by a high plinth with towers on top. The massing of the towers is divided in recognizable segmented volumes, different by color and type of window openings. This results in a new image of a vertical city compared to the conventional tower layouts. The Space in between two blocks are organized as a shopping street with water plaza in the middle. Two urban blocks are organized around central green courts which are defined by a high plinth with towers on top. The plinth follows the direction of the surrounding streets and accommodates diverse public services which are accessible from the outside perimeter and from private courtyards. From the inside of the block, the plinth organizes a private courtyard and accommodates a series of amenities SEQUENCE OF ENTRY for the residents, varying from central reception, fitness and shops to children day-care. DESCRIPTION: The main goal of this project is to create a functional and flexible space for a comfortable life of students and also to optimize the costs of construction and operation. The main advantage of this design is its simplicity, modularity and the to combine elements depending on the tasks. During the development of the project we managed to optimize the number of items that will accelerate the manufacturing and assembly of individual modules. Thus we have obtained one type of frame, three types of facades, six types of containers and nine additional elements. This minimum set gives us the opportunity to settle Rubic HOUSE in almost any environment with the help of different types of layout (point, line, diagonal). The easiness of assemble of the containers allows one to quickly construct the building and leaves possibility, during operation, to increase or decrease amount of required modules. Optimization of furniture and equipment of modules helps to make the space more functional and transformable. For instance, the wall bed in the folded state increases useful area for work or leisure.
