The container, in my persepctive, is an object that carrys a meaning. As all of these artworks, that manily have a traditional “container”, which is a cube, as a carrier. They, however, convey significant meanings, keeping the object fresh or live. It contains whatever memories, emotions, or an object itself. It could be in any shape. Sometimes, a container could be seen as a restriction, as a cage, but on the other side, it maintains the status.

From small to large, from simple to complex, from isolation to involvement, the connection between all things is hidden and unpredictable. The emptiness is transformed into a point, a point into a line, a line into a surface, and a surface into a physical space that presents and envelops all things. What kind of expression can be obtained in the time and space of life, only through self-inspection and internalization can one obtain the answer that belongs to each individual. All the substances in the world-fabrics, air, movement tracks, breathing, and sound-seem to be one, but they all have their own meanings. In conclusion, to contain is to find the internal of ourselves.

Concept The dragon fruit's skin is the part that protects the flesh to keep it in good condition. Since it is grown in tropical area, the skin is grown to be really thick in order to store water, supplying nutritions to the flesh to make it live. Moreover, when the fruit is picked, the skin dries quick, but the flesh keeps freshing. The dragon fruit wraps and protects its flesh by using a soft inner wall but sharp and

Circulation: The Unknown Journey


Threshold as a connection from the public to the private, is always designed with thoughtful materials and lights. Also, it is a transition of people’s feeling. We put off those undermost garment of dissimulation or second thought when we get home or any private place, becoming simple and relax. And a threshold carries that responsibility. The Unknwon Journey is designed to be a semi-private threshold. The geometry of the volums is composed of basic shapes. The simplicity of the shapes and the dazzle reflection of light make a contradiction. Using the textures of different materials create a vibrant atmosphere. The space is divided into three parts, the most private area provides a possibility for people to pass the space without meeting others. The middle part is the most public area that conveys the brightest and most scattered light, allowing people to walk around freely. The open door on one side is a way to either the elevator, or any pulic space. The curved shape of the walls lead occupants to their destination.

The Airy House Project 06 Togetherness Studio 601 Yuying Zhu




CONCEP T People are more likely to connect each other with nature. Natrual ventilation could not only help to keep occupants calm, reducing the stress, but also improve their attention. In this project, the house invites natural wind and light indoor. In fact, seeing natural movement indoor could be more beneficial than seeing nature outside through a window. Start from the idea, the space is designed in axis, providing a long living room in center, with all activities spreading out. The idea that capture and draw the wind through is to provide voids along the living area. There is no large solid walls longitunially, instead, using the full-height sliding doors for separations and coherent. One of the most significant designs is to create “semi-private”space by introducing softweight chiffon curtains, connecting people to the public living room harmoniously. While sliding the full-height walls to the sides enlarge the space, and the room becoming more airy. At the same time, they can all have a view to the central environment.

CONCE P T Transparency

Transparency could be approached by either using translucent material, or using blocks to create solid and void. It can expand the space visually, and let more light come in.

Transparency + Movement: of light, air, sound

The movement of light and air are similar. As the interior is facing south, towards North, the southern part shares more sunlight and temperature. The air is also coming in and going through the whole interior. People's movement is affected by the movement of light and air as well.

Transparency + Green

Sustainability could be a greenhouse with trees inside a room, absorbing carbondioxide. Also when increasing the natural light transmission level, less energy is used.What's more, green can bring people together. It can also lighten up our feeling, and making the interior more welcome.
