Installation Ceremony 2021

The installation Ceremony of Kuliyapitiya Toastmasters club was held via ZOOM on 21st August, 2021. District Director DTM Sriyanthie Salgado graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. A keynote was delivered by Professor Nalin Abeysekara. DTM Kapila Weerasooriya, Charter president graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

New Member Orientation

New Member Orientation was Conducted on 21st October 2021 via ZOOM. TM Kumudu Silva, TM Ovinda Jayawardene, and TM Zahra Marzook of Kuliyapitiya Toastmasters Club were the resource persons.

TM Darshana Rasika Abeysinghe moderated this session.

Apart from New Members, a few guests also got the opportunity to participate in this session.

New Members TM Theja Gayani is an Electrical Engineer at Ceylon Electricity Board.

She was introduced to toastmasters

by TM Darshana Rasika Abeysinghe.

TM Vimukthi Darshana is a Regional Accountant at LOLC Holdings PLC. He was introduced to toastmasters by TM Gamini Fernando.

TM Dinesh Herath is a Manager at LOLC Holdings PLC. He is reading for his MBA at the University of Kelaniya.

He was introduced to toastmasters by TM Darshana Abeysinghe.

TM Mahinda Arampath Herath is an Electrical Engineer at Ceylon Electricity Board. He is a charter member of Kuliyapitiya Toastmasters Club who was re-instated in 2021.

TM Budhdhika De Silva who took a HIATUS from toastmasters briefly was reinstated in 2021 As well.

Club Quality and Variety Kuliyapitiya Toastmasters Club worked hard this session to add color and variety to meetings.

Sometimes it meant inviting speakers from other disciplines to share knowledge and experience on the selected theme of the meeting.

We have conducted some interesting educational sessions on Nuclear Science, Sea Faring, and Rhythm in order to add a rich experience and value to our members.

Apart from that DTM Moditha Sendanayake delivered a motivational keynote on "Expand your Horizons" at the beginning of this session to set the momentum in motion.

Successful Club and Better Speaker Series Presentations KTM Successfully conducted two presentations, each from the Successful Club Series and Better Speaker Series during this period. The Successful Club Series presentation was delivered by TM Zahra Marzook and Better Speaker Series presentation was delivered by Division H director, DTM Mohamed Rifnaz.

Joint Themed Meeting with PGIS Toastmasters We were thrilled to conduct our joint meeting for this session with the vibrant toastmasters from PGIS Toastmasters Club.

The theme of the joint meeting was "Halloween". Both club members enjoyed the meeting which was well executed.

We express our gratitude to DTM Moditha Sendanayake for introducing the two clubs to each other.

Moments of Truth Session

Moments of truth session was conducted by Area H3 Director TM Thakshila Jayasena.

It was a really eye-opening session for the club.

TM Kumudu Silva executed the meeting as Toastmaster of the day.

Humourous Speech Contest

Club Contest for Humourous speech, ended with TM Shashika Guruge emerging as the winner while TM Thilini Wasundara emerged as the first runner up.

Both of them proceeded to the Area Contest where TM Shashika Guruge won second place and qualified for the Division H COntest.

Editor's Message It has been an honor to act as editor for the third newsletter of Kuliyapitiya Toastmasters Club. Putting up this newsletter gave me the opportunity to look back and reflect on how far we have come as a club despite the challenges during this pandemic. We might not have got the privilege to meet physically, being an online club or have the best opportunities as in an elite club. But we certainly reaped the benefits of being an online club. There is still a long way to go for Kuliyapitiya Toastmasters Club. It will be a bumpy but fun journey.
