Hi there, I’m Zainab Alavi

about me I currently attend York University for Design (BDes) for the prestigious YSDN program jointly offered with Sheridan College. I am working towards specializing in graphic design. If I could describe myself in a few words, it would be: A dreamer; a dreamer that wants to make the world a better place through her work. I love working with people and making people happy and would ultimately love to convey my message through my work. I hope my work can one day play a meaningful role in people’s lives.

Journey to Sheridan For my Typography 1 class, students were assigned to create a handbill depicting our journey to class. As this class took place in Sheridan, I decided to display my journey from Toronto to Oakville. By using typographic alignment, grids and hierarchy, as well as Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, my ‘Journey to Sheridan’ Handbill was created

Typography title pages For my Typography 1 class, students were assigned to create a mock title and half title page using key concepts such as Hierarchy and Alignment. I chose the titles “Typo-Style, A guide to Sweating the Details” and “Learning to Love the Grid, Spacial Order in Graphic Design”. Using Adobe InDesign, thorough planning and critique, I was able to create successful title and half title pages for the mock books.

Air visual Representation For Visual Language Class, for our final project we were assigned to visually represent an element (such as air) using only typographic glyphs. Using lessons learned in class such as Colour theory, and Visual Hierarchy, research and brainstorming, I was able to create a visual layout of my assigned element, air on Adobe Illustrator.

Discover Poster For Visual Language Class, for our ‘Colour’ project, we were assigned to explore creating colour schemes, from analogous to split-complimentary and then learn how to apply these colour schemes onto an image, using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. The final product consisted of applying a colour a selected colour scheme and placing a single word related to the image to create a poster.
